I'm trying to ensure that a user exists in a database before the data they are logging is inserted. I have the following code;

I need help with the code to make it so when a form loads it will check the Access database for the user and if that user is present, then it will load their selections. Otherwise, if no user is present it will add a new row to the database and display nothing.

I am new to working with the PrintDocument, but I believe this would be the way to accomplish this. This is my problem.I have a field set up in MS Access to Boolean YES/NO, this field is populated when the user check a checkbox on a windows form. If the user check a checkbox, the value is written as checked in the data field (MS Access).The problem is when I search for the user information, I need the information from the Data base to populate(return) to the windows form. Example: If I enter a users phone number and the user data is present, the form gets populated with the information the user previously entered which was store in the database.Example: If the user selected checkbox1 and submits the form. When .Clear() is invoked, is the memory freed up that was allocated when all of the items were added? I need to load several lists of codes from a database depending on the import selected by the user. Each list of codes will be a List(Of String). My idea is that I will load only small strings into a List(Of String) along with a List(Of <class>) for the data I will be validating and manipulating. When I am done, I want all of the data from the Lists to be purged from memory. Will .Clear() take care of that or does the memory still remain allocated and have to be dumped by the OS once memory gets full? (And, incidentally, what causes the OS to decide which memory blocks to dump? FIFO concept?)
There are so many lists, I'm not sure if I just want them sitting in memory or not. Granted, the lists will just consist of a single string value for each code pulled from the database. So there won't be a ton of data, so maybe I could just load all the validation lists at the beginning of runtime and only worry about purging the data List since it will contain between 35-50 "fields" per record and there will be a couple thousand records each import that is run. I don't want my program to actually cause a hit in performance in the long run. I ultimately don't see a problem because I won't be running millions or even hundreds of thousands of records at once, but I just want to be sure.

If the user has accepted the aggreement then call a vb.exe that display the aggrement. I have a login script that runs the vb.exe and uses a button click that records the user info to a csv file, but if the user has already agreed to the policies I do not want it run again.
View 4 RepliesI'm designing a PC-based app that has a little local database. I'm using VB.NET with SQL Server Compact Edition. The user will only ever have access to one database file, because it's all about storing a user specific data. However I'm thinking of the situation where there could be multiple users that access the PC, each with their own Windows account. So ideally I'd need separate database files for each User.
I'm not sure how to implement this. I was hoping to deploy the 'empty' database as a ClickOnce deployment, but I can't see how I can have a database per user doing this. Also I'm not sure where to store the database files anyway. perhaps in MyDocuments for each user? Or perhaps I need to stick to just one database, but add a 'User' column into every table, so it can hold data for every user. I didn't want to do this though - because I wanted to keep the nice separation between the data offered by physically separate files.

I have a comments form which I want to appear only if a user is logged in.I now there is a toolbox helper thing called Login View which does exactly what I want but as soon as I put a form inside the code won't compile because it cannot find the textbox fields.

What's a secure way to check a SQL for a user/pass? Directly connecting to the SQL is not secure at all as the user could see all of the sql data were he to decompile/deobfuscate the program.I'm thinking about using a php page to check, that way they only have access to the php page?
