I'm building a TCP/IP server that sends small strings and updating my database, every time the client connect i get this Exception:
unable to read data from the transport connection: an existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. The client successfully able to connect to the server and everything working fine even though this Exception raise, but if i send 3-8 request in the same second the database do get updates in all of them but the server failing to send "OK" response to the client in about 3-4 of those requests, the line i get the error is this: bytesRead = mClient.GetStream.Read(readBuffer, 0, BYTES_TO_READ)

I do apologise if this has been answered 9000 times already. I have looked over forums and google for days now. I want to connect to an sql database (created locally in the windows form project) i want to then interact with this db (add, update, select) however i am struggling with the connection string (server:? localhost?) the update functions (tableadapter.update(dataset)?) adding new information (newrow etc).

View 15 RepliesI have a situation where I have a vb.net program that uses two connection strings. This program will be used on multiple web servers on multiple domains and the only difference for any of them is the two connection strings.What would be the best solution to read in these connection strings from a file separate from my actual .vb code?
Ideally I want to be able to drop the .vb and the connection string file into its own folder on any number of asp.net websites and not update anything else (for example add any connections to the web.config or anything) than the external file containing the connection strings, I assume something like xml would suffice?
This is what I have for code:
Private Sub restoreDatabase(ByVal dbName As String)
Dim newDbName As String
newDbName = dbName.Substring(dbName.LastIndexOf("_") + 1)
My.Forms.portfolioGenerator.Close()
[Code] .....
It seems like it should be pretty simple, I take in a file name as a parameter, create a new name for it, delete it, then try to copy it back from an older version of the same file, and update the connection string. However, it continually tells me that "The file 'filenamehere' already exists." If I set overwrite to true then it goes through just fine, except it doesn't actually copy the file. Obviously I also check the folder, and the file does in fact Not exist...I've also checked all the file paths and what-not, they are all accurate.
How to read an Excel file without using OLEDB connection string?
View 2 RepliesI`m trying to write a small program which connects to a serial port at 115kbps and reads a stream of continuous bytes from a microcontroller. The program should then graph these bytes by time. Ideally this all happens in "real time" and as quickly as they can be sent.With a 50ms serial write delay on the micro the VB program keeps up fine, but if I lower the delay any further, say down to 1ms, the update can`t keep up and the serial buffer just grows.I wasn`t expecting the bottleneck to be the PC side so it`s likely my code is doing something wasteful. Or maybe it`s the graphics which are drawing slow?
Private Sub DrawGraph()

Dim y As Integer = m_Y

I am building a chat client/server. And I can connect and chat just fine, but when a user disconnects, the server does not recognize this and acts weird, often spamming the last message that was sent by the user..Also, it's like the client does not disconnect from the server even when I close the client app. Once I exit the program, VB acts like it is still debugging. Once the server is shut down however, I get this error:
IOException was unhandled:Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize)I don't know how to make my client and server accept the fact that a client has disconnected...

I am using Visual Studio 2005. I am using a data reader to read an Excel spreadsheet and want to update a SQL Express table. The datatypes in this table mimic a software application I will eventually be passing data to and are listed in the comments in my code. No matter what I do or change, this will not run. I even populated my spreadsheet with zeros and this will not run. I have found many suggestions on the web and tried changing things but nothing seems to work. I also don't know specifically which variable is causing the error or the proper way to make sure there are no blanks in this spreadsheet.The error says "conversion from string "" to 'Double' is not valid Here is my code:
Public Sub btnUpload_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpload.Click
'Connect to the Excel spreadsheet
Dim xConnStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _
"Data Source=" & txtFileName.Text & ";" & _

I have a fairly simple XML file that I just want to read the data from.
It has 3 levels, root, main section and items. There are no attributes. I want to go to the first main section by name, then read in all the items. The items all are named the same. I've seen this done before, so it should be ok. No writing will be done. Basically this is a static data file
File looks similar to the following:

What i want to do is the following:
I have a form and i want,by clicking the appropriate button, to update the height and weight values which have the specified primary key 'id'.
The primary key 'id' is of type IDENTITY.The problem is that the above code does not work. It says Must declare the scalar variable "@id".
I have a List "MyList(of MyStruct)"
[vbcode]
Public Structure MyStruct
Public ID as Integer
Public Value as Integer
End Structure
[/vbcode]
At some point I need to update the Value of the member with ID=X, but I'm stuck.
Do I need to search for the index of that member using FindIndex and then set the value like MyList(index).Value=Something?
Or
Find the member itself by using Find, but how would I then set the new value?
