VS 2010 List(of T) Update Data Of A Specific Member
May 2, 2011I have a List "MyList(of MyStruct)"

At some point I need to update the Value of the member with ID=X, but I'm stuck.
Do I need to search for the index of that member using FindIndex and then set the value like MyList(index).Value=Something?
Or
Find the member itself by using Find, but how would I then set the new value?

The SQL I have :

May 31, 2010In the following code i get a warning at line 59:Warning 1: Access of shared member, constant member, enum member or nested type through an instance; qualifying expression will not be evaluated.and.. At line 78 I get this Warning:
Warning 2 Property 'SelectedCustomer' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used.
The program compiles and runs well, but i cant' undesrtand the reason for these warnings. Any Idea ?

VS 2010 : Return Data From A Specific <div> Via A Web Request?
Feb 12, 2012I am trying to search for a term on this site: [URL] and return the definition of the term to a RichTextBox. I can search for the term easily enough. My initial idea was to find a div class similar to every definition, and in the source returned from my WebRequest there is always the div class:

So for example, if you search the term "lol" and view the page source, the definition for that term is wrapped as follows:
<div class="luna-Ent">laughing out loud; laugh out loud: used as a response to something funny or as a follow-up to something said only as a joke.</div>
My problem is that I cannot split the string, which contains the entire text from this web response, leaving just the above. Which I would further split to leave just the definition.Every time I attempt to split the string I get a bogus result with randomly cut up words and nonsense. There is only one <div class="luna-Ent">, so I have no idea why this isn't working when it does with a simpler string such as "lol?55?44" which you would split using "?".Here is the code so far, please excuse the crappy variable names. I always structure my stuff like that when testing?

The Locate String is there because thats the location where the iso files are but the application is in the root of the drive. The ListBox1 command is fairly easy to understand

After saving, I get the correct message ("Saved"), and the DataGridView in the first form gets updated in real time.
But... when I take look at the data (or close and reopen the forms) the data in the database (SQL server) have not changed! What happens!

You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . For example , lets say that in the DataGridView control I only show the following fields :Field1 , Field2 and Field3 .Now , when the user selects an entry in the DataGridView control , I want to insert the text from Field4 into a text box on the form .
The problem , however , is that I don't know how to get the specific row in the data base file and also I don't know how to get the text in column (field) Field4 of that row .One thing that might be important is that the index of the row in the data base file is not necessarily the same with the index of the current row in the DataGridView control . This is because in the DataGridView control the rows are order by the contents in the ID Field .ol .

The problem now is when I saved a record into sql server (EG Technical Manager) and try to view back the saved data, it always show the first item (Director) in combobox. But, my sql server has saved is "Technical Manager" for that saved record.

Nov 16, 2011I have a combo box that is populated with a list of objects (corresponding to all employee rows from a database that meet the criteria IsTech). These are not entity objects though, I have created my own class that stores the member values of each row from the DB. I have set the DisplayMemberPath to EmployeeId so the Combo box display the EmployeeId ( an integer ) member of my object. Ie. right now there are only 2 IsTech employees in my DB so the combobox displays the numbers 3 and 8 ( their EmployeeIDs).

Sep 21, 2010I think (?) this is about object design, and perhaps about structural and/or creational patterns. But a bit hard to say when I only know a couple of patterns yet.[code]But... what if we INSTEAD want each Product instance only to (in some way) refer to one instance of a specific list of Components. So we wan't to save the products list to one file, and the components list to another file. Then would I build the objects the same way, or different? So let's then say we have now Class B as below. 1. Will not need to update each component variable of the products list when the components list changes.
2. If the Product object shall be shown in a DataGridView, for editing properties, it seems easier to implement the selection of the component property.
Is this wrong approach? Is it suitable in some cases, and if so, when? Are there other solutions I perhaps am not aware of that would be appropriate? Is this about structural design patterns? and if so, can the alternatives above be catagorized to some pattern type? I don't really know exactly what I'm looking for.. But I think probably I'm looking to understand whether the object design will be determined by the way the objects are saved.. And if i shall save the objects by serializing to file, vs saving to a database, would I create the business objects differently?
VS 2010 - Update Data Source When Database Field Definition Change
Nov 11, 2010I'm using a MS Access 2007 database. I modified the field definition of one of the fields in a table, it a text field and I change the maximum length from 40 to 150. I have a data source in my app that contains this table and many others. I refreshed the data source but the change didn't take affect. I went through configure option but the change still didn't take affect. It gives me this error,
The value violates the MaxLength limit of this column.
If I add/delete a database field the data source is updated when I go through the configure process. I finally just deleted the table from my data source and then added it back.
VS 2010 Storing Data Along With List Box Items?
Sep 19, 2011What I'm trying to accomplish is first of all, adding items in a list box, but while doing so, store data into that item so when the user clicks on it, the data will be brought up into the correct text boxes.
My idea on how this will all work out has to do with array lists. I'm thinking each time an item is added to the list box, an array list is generated containing all the data from the text boxes. The array list would be named as the text of the list box item.
So then when the user clicks on one of the items, it can find that array list easily because of the selected index, and then update the text boxes with the data.
Is the way I'm thinking of possible? If not, or if there is an easier what, what would that be?
