Using VB 2010 Express.I have a TextBox on a form. I want to be able to enter some text, then press either the {Tab} or the {Enter} to leave. Tabbing out seems to be the default behavior, so no problem there, but how do I get the TextBox to respond to the {Enter} key?

I started learning vb 2010 over the internet for about an a week and got stuck on this assignment that I got from the internet
1.Add one textbox so the user can enter a distance measured in feet. Add labels as needed.
2.Add a button control which when clicked is converts the feet to meters (1 foot = 0.3048 meters), accepting floating point values and preserving them (no integer conversions) and display the output as shown next. 1 Points
3.Display the conversion result using a MessageBox (not msgbox) using this format: x feet is y meters, where x is the value entered and y is the result of the conversion to meters with up to 2 decimal places only. Then show an extra line of "Would you like to start another distance conversion?" and make the No button the default in the message popup and display the question icon.
4. If the user chooses Yes, cleanup the controls as in the Reset button. 0.5 Point
5.If the user clicks no, ask in another MessageBox if the user wants to quit.
6.If the user chooses to quit, close the window, otherwise no action is required.

View 5 RepliesI have a text box in my application. When I open it, I type "Hello" and then close. When I open it again, the text is obviously gone. Is there a way now to keep the text and any changes in there rather than making the program save a .txt upon closure, and then opening it every time the application loads? Would the same code go for a checked check box, or a certain radio button, data grid view, etc. ?

View 3 RepliesI have a text box where i am entering numbers of double datatype andon the Keytdown event of the textbox some checks take pace and in certain circumstances I want to be able to stop the user from entering other information until they enter the right information in the textbox (where it says right here) . now when I say exit sub the textbox somehow loses focus . but this is not how I want it to be I want the textbox to remain with the focus so the user can change the information . How can i go about this.
And the other thing is why is my txtDestPayRate1.Focus() just befor the exit sub not working? because I am giving focus to it so whats happening or rather why is it not happening Is there a way other than exit sub to tell it to stop executing on that line and do other stuff

I am new to visual basic. I am putting a masked text box that is data binded. Example social security number 000-00-0000. When the cursor is on the masked field, a can no longer exit the field. I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.
View 9 RepliesNow I have a sub to validate a bunch of textboxes and combo boxes.I previously used many IF statements to validate and pop up different messageboxes and Exit Sub in every IF statement.But I heard that too many Exits will decrease the efficiency and they were not recommended to use. Instead, nested IF is better because it will let the process naturally go to the end.Then I found out that if I use nested IF,it will be hard to read, since messageboxes are all separated from conditions.

It checks for their IP and hostname, and if either match, display an error inside my error form. When that form closes, close the program. In the project properties, it's set to start shut down when the LAST form closes. This is the form closing code.

I am trying to close the thread so once it's done, it closed for good and my form is closed as well. I tried Me.Close() which results in: "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Form1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." Error.
Me.Invoke(New InvokeWithString(AddressOf CloseME), e) - Results in parameter mismatch error.
However, things like Msgbox("Done") works perfectly.

View 12 RepliesI've got the following code that just does a WMI connect to a remote machine - I haven't setup any code to query anything yet but when I step through the code I don't get any errors. I get to the last debug.print statement and when I step over it the program exists. Almost like I've called a End. No errors or anything - it just exists. How come it doesn't take me back to the form? IF I comment out " scope.Connect()" then it ends the sub and returns to the form.

I want the program to exit the sub after the timer has been started. But if theres no args, it should just show itself. The problem is that it seems to not care about the exit sub thingy, cause it shows itself anyway.
In the project I am doing at the moment I want to disable the Exit ( X ) buttons in the top right corner of all my forms. So I found out this code which I�m using and is working fine:

I'm having issues with a progressbar. I've created a progressbar that reads registry variables and uses that input to update the progressbar and some status messages (so I can call it from vbscripts, etc). I want it so when my status bar hits 100%, the bar stops, waits a few seconds, and then quits. However, it seems the program processes the remaining code and quits the application before it has time to completely repaint the progress bar (I'm guessing this because it will usually update to about 10% before it exits).. I'm using something like this...
