VS 2010 Wait On Repaint Before Exit - Progressbar?
Jan 6, 2012
I'm having issues with a progressbar. I've created a progressbar that reads registry variables and uses that input to update the progressbar and some status messages (so I can call it from vbscripts, etc). I want it so when my status bar hits 100%, the bar stops, waits a few seconds, and then quits. However, it seems the program processes the remaining code and quits the application before it has time to completely repaint the progress bar (I'm guessing this because it will usually update to about 10% before it exits).. I'm using something like this...
If prcnt = 100 Then
progbar.Style = ProgressBarStyle.Blocks
progbar.Value = 0
I'm having a problem with using the system.diagnostic.process. Basically, I can't get the myProcess.WaitForExit to work. I keep getting an error saying that "No process is associated with this object.". I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
What I want to know is if there is a way to NOT wait for a process when using impersonation. There's no overloads so I'm not sure how to do this.
// always waits for exit to continue Impersonation.RunProcess(someProcessPath);
The reason I want to do this is that I have a long executing application that processes large files, but I want to deliver a success response to the client that the process has began before directing them to a status page. I cannot run the process with a normal process.Start() because the IUSER needs to impersonate an elevated user account.I've even tried using process.StartInfo after Impersonation.Login() and supplying a un/pass, but I think the "logged in" status is part of the static Impersonation class only.
if (Impersonation.Logon(LoginCredentials.UserName, LoginCredentials.Password)) { // this fails with an invalid privileges exit code
This kicks off the process and my code continues to run, but I need a way of monitoring that process and not doing anything else until it finishes. Is there a simple solution? I'm hoping there's something similar to Process.WaitForExit like there is when creating a local process.
I'm looking for a way to limit Picturebox repaints. For example, I wish to be able to only call "repaint" a certain amount of times per second. All my searchs have come up with nothing. I could start a timer and get it to call repaint manually but that only ends up calling it more as it doesn't stop the normal form raising the event.
While navigating to a series of sites at one site the WebBrowser control's DocumentCompleted EVENT is tripped and no other recorded Browser events occur after that. When this happens the hour glass cursor indicates the browser is waiting. From this point it take 120 to 250 seconds of wall clock time before the browser resumes. I am looking for a way to force an abnormal termination without destroying the control. I have tried "Stop", "nav to about:blank" repeatedly without success. How can I force an abnormal termination when the Cntrl is in a wait state?
Consider the following: The last known Browser event to be tripped is a Document Complete event; nothing else occurs after this. When this transpires the Cntrl is waiting.
1:50:657: ============================= ENTER WebBrowser1_DocumentCompleted EVENT ======================================== 31:50:657: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THE NEW WEBBROWSER STATEMENT
I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.
I have a program written with VB.NET 2008 that includes a large number of dynamic controls in a form. When I drag the corner of my form, I want to resize every controls according to the new form size. It works very well, except that the controls are repainted one by one, instead of waiting at the end of my fonction and do a single repaint.
I did a lot of research on the NET without any good results:
- "Form1.DoubleBuffered = true" does not have any effect - "Form1.SuspendLayout" does not have any effect - "SendMessage(Me.Handle, WM_SETREDRAW, New IntPtr(CInt(False)), IntPtr.Zero)" suspended repaints but left the entire window messy.
I am running out of ideas. Here is a sample module to test if your trick works. Just try to resize the form, you will see how long it takes to repaint every control one by one:
paint events in my dgv, i have a dgv, that will be multi color and with some icons to indicate the state of the data. For example, i load all the data to my dgv, add a new image column to the dgv that will have three different icons, then the rows can have one of three colors. The values to set the colors and icons are in two columns of the data source table. And i have another var that indicates if the rows headers have numbers or not, just to help the user...
VB.NET Private Sub frmGPConfirmar_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load fillDGV() prepareDGV()
[code]....
So what i need it's how i can do this, paint the numbers in the rows Headers, put the images in the column, and change the back color of some rows?In other forms where i don't have this three conditions i can do what i want, but in this one i can't... or i can but i doesn't work very well...
Now I have a sub to validate a bunch of textboxes and combo boxes.I previously used many IF statements to validate and pop up different messageboxes and Exit Sub in every IF statement.But I heard that too many Exits will decrease the efficiency and they were not recommended to use. Instead, nested IF is better because it will let the process naturally go to the end.Then I found out that if I use nested IF,it will be hard to read, since messageboxes are all separated from conditions.
I added a banning function to my program, to prevent certain people from using it (obviously). It checks for their IP and hostname, and if either match, display an error inside my error form. When that form closes, close the program. In the project properties, it's set to start shut down when the LAST form closes. This is the form closing code.
Private Sub DenyAccess_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing For i As Integer = My.Application.OpenForms.Count - 1 To 0 Step -1
I got a program that starts a batch file into a textbox and makes backups of my database things, I would like to add a progressbar to my program to see while the progress is running, here is my code, but its not working good at all, I mean, the progressbar one works, but it dont update with the files copied, etc...
Public Sub FAZERCOPIA() Dim SW As System.IO.StreamWriter Dim SR As System.IO.StreamReader Dim i As Integer
in VB i try to make a multi file downloader. but until now it downloads, all files at once to 1 file. i want my code to download all files to 1 FOLDER and the code must wait before starting another download [Code]
To me it seems that Update, Refresh and Repaint all do the same job but there are no doubt rules about when to use which. I would be grateful for any enlightenment.
I have a project im working on in which data is loaded from a database using sqlite into a datagridview, one column in this datagridview is a custom rating column which windowsmedia like rating stars are displayed and when moused over the image is changed using the following custom column. When the mouse is moved in a cell the cell is forced to repaint and display the star image according to the mouse location in the cell.Now the odd thing is that this works perfectly when the data is loaded in with the SQLreader and added row by row, but when the data is loaded in using fill() using a datatable the cell will not repaint when moused over unless its row is currently selected or has been selected. Everything works fine loading the data row by row but loading time is much longer when there are 1000 items in a table.[code]
Basically, I am just trying to close the thread/process after it's done.
Private psi As ProcessStartInfo Private cmd As Process Public Delegate Sub InvokeWithString(ByVal text As String) Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim psi As New ProcessStartInfo("m7.bat") [Code] .....
I am trying to close the thread so once it's done, it closed for good and my form is closed as well. I tried Me.Close() which results in: "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Form1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." Error.
Me.Invoke(New InvokeWithString(AddressOf CloseME), e) - Results in parameter mismatch error. However, things like Msgbox("Done") works perfectly.
Using VB 2010 Express.I have a TextBox on a form. I want to be able to enter some text, then press either the {Tab} or the {Enter} to leave. Tabbing out seems to be the default behavior, so no problem there, but how do I get the TextBox to respond to the {Enter} key?
I've got the following code that just does a WMI connect to a remote machine - I haven't setup any code to query anything yet but when I step through the code I don't get any errors. I get to the last debug.print statement and when I step over it the program exists. Almost like I've called a End. No errors or anything - it just exists. How come it doesn't take me back to the form? IF I comment out " scope.Connect()" then it ends the sub and returns to the form.
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click Dim displayString As String = "" Dim pcTag As String = "server"
How can I integrate a ProgressBar in this code? It takes normally some seconds (9-10), but my program looks like a "crash", for this reason i want use a ProgressBar
VB Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("Login").SetAttribute("Value",TextBox1.Text) WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("pass").SetAttribute("Value",TextBox2.Text) WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("login).InvokeMember("click") 'now the problem is that the following statments finishes up before the preceding statment
I'm trying to write some code that stops and waits for an event then continues execution. I want execution to wait for a mouse event and then continue. I can't just put the code to be executed after the event directly into the Click handler, because many different sections of code need to stop and wait for the event.
how I can allow the program to exit while the textbox is empty but I can't figure out how it works really..it will not allow me to exit,enter, or tab out of the textbox while its empty.
Private Sub gradeTextBox_KeyPress(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles gradeTextBox.KeyPress Select Case e.KeyChar Case "0" To "9", vbBack, vbCr e.Handled = False
