VS 2010 : Program To Exit The Sub After The Timer Has Been Started?

May 16, 2010

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Hide()
Dim value As String = """" + Application.ExecutablePath + """ -nogui"

[code]....

I want the program to exit the sub after the timer has been started. But if theres no args, it should just show itself. The problem is that it seems to not care about the exit sub thingy, cause it shows itself anyway.

VS 2010 Program Won't Exit?

Jun 28, 2010

I added a banning function to my program, to prevent certain people from using it (obviously). It checks for their IP and hostname, and if either match, display an error inside my error form. When that form closes, close the program. In the project properties, it's set to start shut down when the LAST form closes. This is the form closing code.

Private Sub DenyAccess_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing

VS 2010 WMI Connect Causes Program To Exit?

May 12, 2010

I've got the following code that just does a WMI connect to a remote machine - I haven't setup any code to query anything yet but when I step through the code I don't get any errors. I get to the last debug.print statement and when I step over it the program exists. Almost like I've called a End. No errors or anything - it just exists. How come it doesn't take me back to the form? IF I comment out " scope.Connect()" then it ends the sub and returns to the form.

Once The Timer Has Been Stopped And Started, Code Does Not Goto The Elseif Part (i.e. I=5)?

Jul 19, 2010

i was trying to make a free microsoft word plugin in vb.net. It automatically fills a web form. The main problem with the plugin is that it uses web browser control and once it has filled a form it will need to navigate another form. The form can only be filled once it has completely been loaded.so my approach is

1. navigate to first site when form loads

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
WebBrowser1.Navigate("http://google.com")
End Sub

2. use an integer i and use if statements to check which form to fill :

Private Sub WebBrowser1_DocumentCompleted(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEv entArgs) Handles WebBrowser1.DocumentCompleted
If (i = 1) Then[code].....

3. this is the main step. you see when main form loads, i=1 so browser goes to google.com (first form), when form is completely loaded, itchecks for value of i. Since i=1, it fills google. After filling and continuing i=2 and browser goes to my personal account page. This means browser again loads the document. Now i=2, so it fills my personal detalis. Now the timer starts. Since i=3, browser navigates to second site and fills the details.

Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
If (i = 3) Then
WebBrowser1.Navigate("http://blogger.com")[code]...

now the problem arises. The browser does not go to the third site. Once the timer has been stopped and started, the following code does not goto the elseif part (i.e. i=5) why is that so?

VS 2010 - Developing An Automated Command Line Program - Attach The Timer ?

Feb 15, 2012

The code in question is in place, and it works. The project is all but wrapping up. That being said, I would love to find a better way to run this section of code in an x64 system so I have the solution ready for future projects. What I currently have in place is as follows:

Function TimeDelay(vDelay)
Dim vTimmer, vTargetTime

vTimmer = TimeValue(Now)

[CODE]...

Now I know the easy way to achieve my goal would be to use the timer object in Visual Studio. The problem I ran into is I was developing an automated command line program. As such there was nothing I could attach the timer to (that I'm aware of). I just needed to pause the program for a few seconds to allow the DTSX package (SSIS file if you're not familiar) to load the file before I remove it from the staging folder.

While I was doing research for this issue I came across the old Sleep() function (referenced to a library in kernel32 as I understand it...never used this before either). When I tried to use this on my current system (64-bit system) I received stack overflow errors. Additional research lead to something called wow64, but I did not have enough time to fully research what this is / how to use it.

How To Prevent Program Being Started Twice

Apr 8, 2010

I have a small problem with my application. When the system starts up, the program starts with it, but runs hidden (registry key with paremeter). The program also has a GUI.I want it so that when the user clicks the desktop icon, it does not start a second instance of the executable, but instead reveals the currently running background process. Is that possible?i.e. when the application is started with the "-startup" paremeter, it loads a hidden form2, and closes form1. When the desktop icon is clicked, it loads form1, while form2 remains hidden.

Know If And Which Program Started Own Application?

Dec 4, 2009

I'm having troubles finding a way to retrieve informations about which program started my own application. The situation is this: I have a VB .net application which launch another VB .net application (both made with the .net framework 2.0) using process.start(), the second application need to know which software or process started it, if it was started by another software and not directly by the user, and I can't access to the source code of the first application so there's no way I can send a specific command line to the second application.

VB 2010 Forms App Project Using ADO.Net Has Started Crashing VS 2010 Whenever Load It?

Aug 11, 2011

well until a few day ago. I don't know what I have introduced to cause the problem but now, whenever I load the project, VS 2010 (SP1) crahes. If I delete the project's suo file, the project loads (really quickly) and all is well until I exitVS 2010. When I re-run it and try to load the project, it crashes again unless I delete the suo file. The program can be built for x64 and x86. Now, when I reload the project (after deleting the suo file), it comes up in Debug - Any CPU mode. I can change from Debug to Release and from Any CPU to x86 but if I try and change from x86 to x64, VS 2010 crashes. This is not always the case though. If I build the x86 version and then switch to x64, all is well and I can build the x64 version. Obviously, there's something wonky going on.

Detect Which Executable Started Your Program?

Jun 13, 2009

I have a custom button in IE8 which starts up my program. Now what I wanted to do, was pass an arguement such as: 'myprogram.exe /ie'

From the IE8 button, and well my program will do rest from there. Now my program adds the button just fine, shows up fine, all that works. But each time i'd add an argument after my application path, IE8 would say it can't find the program. If you want to test this out, goto run, type in gpedit.msc, then 'User Configuration'->'Windows Settings'->'Internet Explorer Maintenance'->'Browser User Interface', and double click on 'Browser Toolbar Customizations'. And in the small window that pops up, is an option for adding custom buttons to IE. I was using this for testing purposes, since it was faster to edit a button here than in my program. When you add a button you choose the executable to link it to. But if you add any arguments after it, IE will simply not be able to find the program. Even if that same command works when you type it from 'run'.

So, now my question is, since apperntly you can't have any arguments in the button, is it possible to detect what executable starts your program? For instance, detect if iexplore.exe started up my program?

VS 2008 Starting Program In Already Started Instance?

Mar 14, 2011

how to PROPERLY make a multi-tabbed or multi-window application that can handle file start requests.

For example, on startup my "Desktop Application" runs and sits there waiting for a task, either through the main menu, or for a file to display in a window. Now the problem is simple, how can I make this already running program load the dropped file (dropped on the executable (!)), instead of starting a new instance.

I understand I will have to check if the process is running, and if so, do some stuff with it. But the problem is passing the message to the active program.

Previously I used text files with paths/arguments in them, but I don't like the idea of the OS/program checking every 500 ms if a file is created in the "load this" folder...

Then I thought of sending a message using "Send Message", for example changing the text in a textbox and handle the "Text Changed" event, but is this reliable? Can any other program interfere with it?

So, basically I need the proper way of doing all of this. For example, Microsoft Visual Studio does this nicely, and no lag whatsoever...

VS 2010 Getting Started With Linq, Code Is Very Slow?

Oct 19, 2011

I am using DataSet.ReadXml() to create a DataSet from the following XML file, so that I can quickly query it using Linq.[URL]..I then use the following object to create a DataTable which can be used as a dictionary, with a ConvertToFriendlyFormat function that takes an Emulator_Id and and a string that corresponds to a DicEntry node's StoredFormat attributed, and return the same node's FriendlyFormat attribute.

This does work BUT it is extremely slow (~11 seconds to call it ~220 times). I have been unable to figure out how create the DataSet when the object is initialised and just query the simple DataTable in the ConvertToFriendlyFormat call. I guess this is what is slowing it down?

FormClosing And Application.Exit Is Causing The MessageBox To Ask If Want To Exit Twice

Jun 12, 2007

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application. However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.
