The user inputs a serial number in a form, the program searches a specified text file on the internet for that serial number, and if it is there then the program runs normally, but if not it exits. I already know how to do the trial part of this program and I know that this is not secure as someone could just hack it and find the text file and read the numbers, however this is for school and is not commercial. The only thing I need to know is how to search a text file for exact text that has been inputted by the user. I've been trawling the internet and I've heard of something called instr or something, but I'm not sure.
The code search for the specified bytes in jpg file and when first match is founded msgbox gives you position of the bytes in the file and Function stops. [Code] Now, because I am newbie to VB I have one question. How can I change the Function so that Function search the whole file for all byte matches?
I have installed on my computer Visual Studio 2010 Premium. I am working in a project, in VBasic.Net where I have to include some reports. Where can I find a good .pdf file training?
This time I've to work with a file which inside is like this:url...I'd like to edit the highlighted part of text: "CustAssetSeen-803981731[NUL][STX][NUL][NUL][NUL]1"If the file was a normal text file I wouldn't have any problems, but I don't know how to work with this kind of file.
I'm new here, but have been in and out for a while. Past threads have been helping me along thus far.
I'm currently developing an app which essentially needs a way for me to search in a text box or file for a specific string, and extract the line on which that string appears on. It will be unique, and the syntax is the same on each line. It has basically 2 ID numbers, and is laid out like this: 123456|123456
So, I'd need to search for the first part before the |, and then get the line so I can get the bit after the |, which is the important bit for me.
I'm new to Visual Basic.net, I've had some experience with ye old visual basic however. I'm wanting to make a quiz app that reads the contents of a text file, with about 500 multi-choice questions in it. It is in the following format QUESTION NO: 1 This is the question, what is the answer?
A. This Answer B. Or this Answer C. Maybe this Answer D. Or this Answer Answer: D
QUESTION NO: 2 and so on. I would like it to display the question number in say...a textbox, along with the question and the multi-choice. And then depending on user input, says correct or incorrect.
I'm having issues trying to get file system watchers working properly, I'm not sure whats not right here, I want to use multiple, but I can't even get one of them to fire on an event... simple form with a listbox for folders to watch and a listbox to list changes detected and a command button to launch watchers.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load lstFolders.Items.Add("C: emp1") lstFolders.Items.Add("C: emp2")
i am trying to make it so that when you are typing a url into the url box on my web browser, you can click enter to search like on comercial browsers instead of having to click the actual search button, im trying to do the same with the web search(google, bing, yahoo!). it worked before, but i've added a tab system to the browser and now it's not letting me click enter to search.
my code:
Private Sub urlgo_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles urlgo.KeyDown If e.KeyData = Keys.Return Then CType(TabControl1.SelectedTab.Controls.Item(0), WebBrowser).Navigate(urlsearch.Text)
I'm creating a search function to search through a binary file and find a record based on the users input. Surprisingly, that isn't the problem! The problem I'm having is that as part of this I'm using a procedure to display results in text boxes, and I'm getting the error "Too many arguments to private sub display customer"I've encountered this error before, but never really knew what it was... Here is my code.
Private Sub btnSearch_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSearch.Click FilenameCust = "F:\College\CustomersFile.bin"

I'm working on my first Visual basic program and I've hit a snag. I want to make a working search form that pulls data from an access database that i already have linked into my visual basic program.
Basically when they click search, i wan't it to check the textbox (lets say firstName.text box for now) for there name, then find all the entries in my database that have those names and display them in a grid.
I have two text files, the first text file has two columns separated by a space (" ") and the second text file only has one column.
The column 1 in text file 1 and text file 2 match albeit in different order, what I'm trying to achieve is for every field in column 1 text file 2 I want to search for column 1 in text file 1 and display the matching column 2 field in column 2 text file 2.
So I am trying to use the search bar on the the face book page and I am stuck. I don't even know if Facebook allows it. This is what I am using right now. It places the text in the box, but it wont invoke the click
I am trying to figure out the BEST way to search AD for a computer name and if it exists change a variable to the next available numberexample if compname = abc123 search Active Directory for compname if exists set compname = abc124 if that exists set compname to abc125 and so on
I have a number of word documents which I need to extract information from. I found code to do it with a text document, but I can't figure out how to apply the same logic to a .docx file.
I have a textbox txtLocation and button btnSearch on my form. I would like to have the ability to enter a location such as NewYork, NY and hit the Search button and the form would yield the return from
In this case GDI no longer stands for Graphic Device Interface! I have an MDI form, and the child form loads up with a single panel positioned at a specific spot so that i can have a visual studio styled menu on the left side. The square white area is the panel with the fields in it for the user to enter. The left side is a TreeView with GDI lines drawn around it that dont appear until the menu has been changed. Here's what the menu looks like when its rendered properly:
When the form first loads, you can quickly see the GDI drawings come up (sometimes) then disappear. It flashes pretty quick when you can actually see it, but until you change the menu item to another causing it to redraw, its just... gone.. Looks like this:Here's the setup:I have two labels docked at the top for the large white text with a black background
There's the treeview on the left in a picturebox where the GDI components are drawn, and a panel touching it on the right side, which is sized and anchored on all sides basically keeping it stretched to the size of the window while keeping the top and left side pinned in position so it doesnt move, keep it touching the menu on the left.
Inside the panel is 10 more panels, one panel for each menu item. Each panel is programmatically set to resize to 1024x768 and becomes visible once the menu item for that panel is clicked. The panels are all programmatically top positioned at 0 and left positioned at -1 to hide the left border stroke from having the BorderStyle set to FixedSingle. Moving it to -1 hides only that border within the panel its in.
I have dual monitors, so i began stepping through the code on one monitor with the program running on the other so i could see what its doing with each step. While going through, at one point i see the contents of the TreeView completely vanish, but all the drawn GDI stuff is there. Once i get through everything and finally hit F8 on the very last line when control of the program is given back to me because its now waiting for me to do something, all of a sudden the treeview contents re-appear and the GDI drawings vanish.
I just upgraded a project from VB 2008 to VB 2010. Before, the project did not use LINQ. I have started implementing it. So, I have updated the target framework from 2.0 to 3.5, and added a reference to System.Core, and imported the namespace System.LINQ to the entire project and also imported System.Data.LINQ into the form I'm working with (because it was not available in the list for Imported Namespaces in the references tab).
It's not throwing any errors now, but my IntelliSense is not working for LINQ stuff.
For example... I write this:
[CODE]....................
Then, if I type S. on the next line, the IntelliSense doesn't grab what it should for S (Only get Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, ReferenceEquals, and ToString, instead of the options I should get like Count, First, FirstOrDefault, etc...). If I Type S.First. then its the same thing, no IntelliSense that lists the available fields for S, just the standard options (Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, ReferenceEquals, and ToString). I should be seeing my column names in my table when I type S.FirstOrDefault.
So any ideas what is going on? When I type the code, for example, MessageBox.Show(S.FirstOrDefault.FirstName), it works perfectly. But it doesn't change the casing of the text (so it would read s.firstordefault.firstname) and no intellisense while doing it. But no errors. BTW - Everything works perfectly when creating a NEW VS 2010 application, it's just my projects upgraded from Visual Basic 2008 that have this issue.
I need some help Adding a search button in VS 2010 VB.Net application linked to an Access Database...
screenShot:
what i need is I want to put the ID in the TextBox besides the search button, and when it finds the ID ( which is the PhoneNumber here ), it automatically fills the fields below with the correct data from the ID found...
The form it is on is frmMidwest.vb, the database is MarchMadnessDB, with the table being tblMidwest and the column being Username. I am trying to get it so when the user loads frmMidwest.vb it will then check the database to see if the user has entered their picks and if they have it will load their picks back into frmMidwest.vb if the database cannot find their user then it needs to add a record to the database and allow the user to enter their picks. I have already established this with TblMidwestBindingSource.AddNew() But if the user exists I do not want them to be able to enter another record. The primary key in the database is the username.
I have a text box setup to filter a datagrid. Work just fine, but if I search for something that is not there (empty results) it comes back with an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." on the bolded line. How to fix that error?
I'm trying to make it so one can search the title of a song: Let's say 50 Cent - Many Men. One hits search, and it searches certain mp3 sites for the song, collects the names of the file name to be downloaded from certain sites, drops them into the listbox, and one can right click the song title extracted in the listbox & click download or save.
I have code that is producing the end result I desire but has a few clunky issues I dont like. I'm wondering if I'm simply using the wrong control or am using the tablelayoutpanel incorrectly. The tablelayoutpanel has 4 rows and 1 column.
The rows are filled with:
Row 1: header information Row 2: search information Row 3: a datagridview displaying the search results Row 4: a label for displaying messages
Rows 1, 2 and 4 are set to absolute size. Row 3 is set to 100%.What I want is to have row 2 not appear until a user clicks a button in row 1. I was able to achieve it using the following
Public Class Form1 Private _searchRowHeight As Integer = 72 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
[code]....
I want the search row to be hidden by default. To do this I am calling the ToggleSearchPanel routine when the form loads. That's minor and I could probably live with it. The other issue is that have to store the height of the panel height manually so that I can later restore the panel size. That is truly bothersome since any change in the designer means that I have to remember to also set my variable to the new height.
