VS 2010 How To Clear All Textboxes
Nov 22, 2010
I just started learning programing if you can call it that, i had a class on visual basic a while ago and i managed to create a nice little application now i want to implement a menu button which when you click will erase all data in all textboxes
So i managed to create a buton but although i have found many answers to my question on the net not one code had worked for me, even the one from this forums faq doesn't work. If is probably coz i don't understand where to copy it or i am doing something wrong
I am using Windows Form Application I tried putting the code like this but obviously it doesn't work
Private Sub ClearEverthingToolStripMenuItem_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ClearEverthingToolStripMenuItem.Click
Dim ctl As Control
' Clear all the TextBoxes on the form.
[Code]..

I am trying to write code to clear all textboxes on a form automatically.
I have entered the following code:
For each ctrl as Control in me. controls
If TypeOf ctrl is TextBox then
ctrl.text = ""
end if
Next
The form has various controls on it, including textboxes, buttons, and others. When I run the above code 'ctrl' only seems to find buttons but not textboxes.

I'm working on an email application atm, and a main feature of it is that it allows someone to enter multiple email accounts and all of the emails will be aggregated on the one form. It would be quite easy to log out of each account if I could delete the cookies. I've tried looking in the "RoamingMicrosotWindowsCookies" folder, but there are no files at all in there, so I have no idea where the cookies would be going.
So, my question is, does someone have a function written that will delete all of the IE cookies currently in place? I can already clear the cache, but I really need to figure out how to delete the cookies.

I'm trying to check a few accounts on a website using web requests. It stores the authentication cookies and the problem is i can't get it to "logout" so to speak. It needs to logout by clearing the cookies since you can't exactly "navigate" to the logout URL.I got a bunch of code but this is the cookie bit:
Dim TempCookies As New CookieContainer
Dim logincookie As CookieContainer
and...

This week I am doing a simple addition, multiplication calculator and am having a little problem clearing data and resetting the enter button. It is supposed to keep the add and multiplication buttons disabled till the user has entered two numbers into the list box, then you are able to choose between addition and multiplication. What I am trying to accomplish is once I hit the clear button the enter button becomes available again to enter numbers into the list box again and do the whole thing again.

I am using Visual Basic under Visual Studio 2010 Professional and I selected .NET Framework 4 from the New Project Screen. The program will plot Strange Attractors and I need to set and/or clear pixels.I delcared the following
Declare
Function
SetPixel Lib
"gdi32"
[code]....
I can set pixels by using the following code, where intX and intY ade dimensioned as integer and &HFF00 is the Hexadecimal for red.
SetPixel(hDC, intX, intY, &HFF00)
After I finish plotting all the points I want to clear the screen back to all black or white or any predifined color. I was able to do this in earlier versions of Visual basic by using "CLS" but this is not available in the current version. how to clear the screen? Should I use one of the earlier versions (.NET Framework2.0, .NET Framework 3.0, etc, etc)?

What I have is on my form there are several text boxes. These text boxes are for user input and attached to each text box is a Private Sub txtBox1_KeyPress function. In that function I have some validation code to check that the user is inputing only what I want them to. And if it doesnt it will pop up a message box telling them so, then it is supposed to clear the text box so the user can try again. But no matter what I try, the text box does not clear it still keeps the last character typed (the invalid one).
Here is the code for one of the text boxes.
Private Sub txtLanIp_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtLanIp.KeyPress
Dim strEmpty As String = ""
If Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) = True Or Char.IsPunctuation(e.KeyChar) = True Or Char.IsControl(e.KeyChar) = True Then
'do nothing
[code]....
The commented methods at the bottom are some of the other things ive tried to make this work. The txtLanIp.text.clear() is what ive tried from the beginning. I have also tried setting the text to "", I even created an empty string and set the .Text value to it but no matter what it wont remove that character. I have also tried various trim(), len(), Select() functions, most either give me an 'index out of range error', a 'length cannot be less than zero' error or a general ExceptionOutOfBounds error. I am just tearing my hair out as to why the simple way doesnt work, there is no logical reason why and it gives no error it just doesn't clear the box.
I have also tried moving the validation to a _LostFocus but e.KeyChar isnt a valid method or property for that declaration, which doesn't surprise me but I wanted to try everything.I dont see how it would matter in this case but I am running Windows XP Pro SP3, though I also see the same behavior in Windows 7 64 bit ultimate sp1 and windows 7 64 bit pro.

When .Clear() is invoked, is the memory freed up that was allocated when all of the items were added? I need to load several lists of codes from a database depending on the import selected by the user. Each list of codes will be a List(Of String). My idea is that I will load only small strings into a List(Of String) along with a List(Of <class>) for the data I will be validating and manipulating. When I am done, I want all of the data from the Lists to be purged from memory. Will .Clear() take care of that or does the memory still remain allocated and have to be dumped by the OS once memory gets full? (And, incidentally, what causes the OS to decide which memory blocks to dump? FIFO concept?)
There are so many lists, I'm not sure if I just want them sitting in memory or not. Granted, the lists will just consist of a single string value for each code pulled from the database. So there won't be a ton of data, so maybe I could just load all the validation lists at the beginning of runtime and only worry about purging the data List since it will contain between 35-50 "fields" per record and there will be a couple thousand records each import that is run. I don't want my program to actually cause a hit in performance in the long run. I ultimately don't see a problem because I won't be running millions or even hundreds of thousands of records at once, but I just want to be sure.
