View 4 RepliesI have a few problems i need to solve. Firstly, I am looking for a piece of code i can use to display a picture from a bank of pictures. It will work on the basis of generating a random number and loading a picture that corresponds to that number.
i.e. Dim RandNumber As Integer
Dim RandClass As New Random
RandNumber = RandClass.next(1, 10)
If RandNumber = 1 Then
Picturebox1.image = picture1
[Code]...
Secondly, can I then use subsequent picture boxes to display pictures from the same bank of images, without displaying the same image? Finally, I then need to be able to click the picture or a button beneath the picture to select it as an answer to a question and then the whole process starts again.
I have 2 forms in my visual basic 2010 project. Both are connected with an SQL 2008 Server where i keep a db with customers records(name,surname,address, etc).What i want to do is to give certain criteria in the first form, lets say name,and hit a search button. The program should search the db if the specified name exists.If it exists i want to show the results in the second form.By results i mean the name , surname, address,etc. If it does not exist i want to prompt the user to insert data into the db.The problem is that i know how to do this work in a single form but not how to make the two forms "communicate" with each other (meaning that one does the search and the other the projection-adding part).
Edit:I tried setting the filters but all i get is errors. I will post whatever i have written so far in case someone can help me out. So here it is.As i stated earlier i know how to search for the data in a single form(lets call it DisplayForm). As Olivier mentioned i have textboxes for the records, a combo box with the search criteria(name , surname,id) and a Search button that perfoms the search and populates the text boxes. The code for the search button is this:
Private Sub btnSearch_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSearch.Click
Dim intPosition As Integer
'Combo box code
Select Case cboField.SelectedIndex
[code]....
I want this procedure be done in a second form (lets call it FormSearch) and populate the textboxes in form DisplayForm.
let me explain further i have table account. in the table are 2 columns namely account_type,Account_name.So on the forms, i want the combo to show the 2 columns even though ony one column would be saved. Am able to do this in access as attached.[code]...

View 1 RepliesI have problems figuring out how to separate a single person to display on my listbox.
I am currently working on an assignment called "Douglas Resort Reservation" and we are supposed to select a query from the combo box Guest Search. For example, when I select Barb Allen, I get the info to display properly, which is good. But, I still have a problem.
When I try to click my button 'Prepare Invoice', I want Barb Allen's info to be displayed in my listbox 'Invoice'. But, now I don't have that complete. I have a whole list of items generated when I load my whole thing from my Form Load event from the textfile RESORT.TXT. I get a whole list of items instead of individualized items.
My question for you is: "How can I get just ONE name and person's information to show up?" when I press the button 'Prepare Invoice'.[code]...
Is it possible to display different with a single a report viewer such that when I click on the button "Report 1" to should display Report 1 in the Report Viewer.If I click on the button "Report 2" it should display Report 2. Is this possible ? If yes then please provide the code.
EDIT 1 : I tried it like this, its not working
frmReport.ReportViewer1.Reset()

View 13 Repliesi need to use a single button for all forms in a vb.net project. The single button should be called in the forms to perform operations.
For eg., In a form i need to save, update the records.
When i call the button, save and update buttons should be appeared at runtime using the single button.
For a school programming project we are supposed to create a database with 2 tables country, and continent.then we populate country with every country name, population and continentID. For continent we populate with each continent name.
i have completed this step, and i am able to run a linq query to display all countries and corresponding continent into a datagridview. My problem arises because we are supposed to display each record one at a time, and be able to cycle through one at a time. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this.
for example if i made a query to select all countries in africa, i want to beable to display the name of the country, and population in textboxes. then have a next button that will go to the next record.
I have been assigned a task to create a basic hangman program and I need help to figure out how to show the letters that the user has guessed correctly without displaying any of the other Characters.The word that the user will be guessing is in a label the user will be guessing letters by clicking buttons This is a piece of the code for one of the buttons the user can click to guess the letter "C":
btnc.Visible = False
Guessletter = "C"
If lblword.Text.Contains("C") Then
*this is the part where I become stuck*
End If

How would I take all my listbox Items (can be different every time) and put them in one single string with ControlChars.NewLine between each of the items.
View 11 RepliesMy program has two forms which get data from the same data source. After binding controls to tables and fields on both forms, I noticed each form has it's own apparently duplicate DataSet. Is it standard practice for each form to have its own DataSet even though they use the same ConnectionString and connect to the same database at the same time?
View 1 RepliesI've got to the stage where I want to make changes to my application so that all of my forms appear to the user as a single window.
I have a main Form with a menu bar which opens up three separate forms. Only one forms is visible at any time.
One way to do this, that I can think of, is to place all the controls from each of the "auxiliary" forms on a panel contained in the main form and then show and hide the panels, when needed. I can envisage this being a big headache though.
Another way would be to give each form a menu bar and make it look like the main form so that the user would not know the difference (with a bit of luck).
I just wonder if there are better ways to do this. Maybe if I could incorporate one form into another form?
i wants to load many pages in same form which each of the pages contains different messages.example....if i press more in the page no1(form 1) it should load the page no2 at the same form(form 1)...
View 1 RepliesI've written an application with about 30 forms and am almost ready to publish, my biggest concern though is that i'm not sure if its a normal thing to do having all these forms and hiding, disposing and showing forms throughout the use of the application.I've toyed with the idea of converting to a MDI Child / Parent interface as well as having one form with lots of subcontainers that are hidden and then hiding / showing them as the navigational buttons are shown.Ive worked on this application for about 8 months now, but would be happy to rewrite the interface and appearance of it if i know that it is not generally an acceptable practice having forms flashing open and closed while navigating through the application.
View 3 RepliesI am still learning VB and operating VB 2005 for school. Challenging issue recently arose and would like advice from someone smarter than I .... When writing code to query several elements from a user,such as: Street number, street name, city, state, zip ... all posed as individual response questions. I want the ultimate displayed answer to show in a single line. When I write to code for that, I get the response in a single line, but they are all jammed together in the cout result screen display, with no spaces between answers (e.g. 2118Winona AveMontgomeryAlabama36102). I want a blank space to display between elements (e.g. 2118 Winona Ave Montgomery Alabama 36102). How do I cause the result line to include spaces?
View 4 RepliesWe have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?
View 2 RepliesI'm new to vb.net and I have what probably is a simple question, but one that I am stuck on. I'm trying to add a single item to a ca combo box at run time. For example, a user selects a category from the first drop down box at run time, say "Admin", I want to add a single item to the combo box below it: Not applicable.
cboTest.Items.Clear()
cboTest.Items.Add("Not Applicable")
Most of the apps I write have a base / home form and a few other forms (three of four typically) which pop up in response to controls clicked by the user. I'd like to be able to set some properties to be the same for all the forms in an app; particularly properties like BackColor and FormBorderStyle. Yes, I can manually set the individual properties for each form in the VB IDE, but I'd prefer to be able to have one line of code in the base / home form for each property along with one line for each dependent form which says something to the effect of "use the same property value as the base / home form has". Overall, my objective would be to have one single line of code in the app which, when changed, would apply the changed property to all the forms. For example, a single line which I can change to take the BackColor from Apple to Orange for all the forms ...

I am new to VB and seeking to create a visual basic program which controls the display of several on-screen elements depending on a single value input by a user. The user can enter anyone of 2500 values and depending on the value entered, five different display elements on the screen will change color or text. The program's response to a given input value never changes, in other words if the user enters 279, the five different display items will always be the same. However, there is no real pattern to the display items that would allow for programming an anticipated response to the input value.
My thinking is to create a large and ponderous "lookup table" in visual basic - I am assuming this an be done but perhaps there is a different or better method. I plan on creating the lookup file in Excel but was assuming I'd need to export it to something that VB could easily read. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Does the lookup table reside as a separate .txt files someplace or something like that? [Code]
