VS 2010 Using Array Of Points With E.Graphics.DrawLines
Apr 30, 2010
I've rewritten my program so it would be more .net friendly (meaning I try to draw in picturebox.Paint event).
I try to use DrawLines using array of points, which are added by user one by one, but I can't figure out how to force my program to only use points that have been set by user and not the whole array.
When I call DrawLines pointing at my array of eg. 10 points and only 5 had been set, I end up with a nice set of lines with the last going to the upper left corner (0,0) and supposedly staying there for 4 more points, which is unacceptable.
I think of using ReDim Preserve each time, but I am not sure if it is the most efficient way to do this.
Anyone can think of something more elegant before I implement this redim monstrosity?

Picture 1 shows an application that I am currently writing that uses the LineShape and OvalShape out of the Visual Basic Power Packs. As I change the index in the part number combo box the A, B & C dimension change to suit the dimension in the text boxes.
Problem is the limited shapes are fine to draw a router template guide, but they are somewhat limited when it comes to drawing more complex shapes like the router bits that make the shapes in Picture 2. Is there a graphic class that would allow me to plot points and joint the dots like you get in kids colouring in books? Or something a little more adept to complex shapes like curves?
I just spotted something called the Pen Class that I might need to look more into, but not knowing the first thing about graphics. Spotted some advice passel gave in another thread to search vb.net gdi+ tutorial and it looks like the Pen Class might have potential, although I am going to have to revisit some math by the looks of things.

I'm trying to generate a list of random points of a 2d array.
ie
(1,0)
(2,1)
(1,2)
(0,0)
(0,1)
....
I need to process each array location, but I would like it to be in a random order.

I have an global array of points that i want to plot in VB. say X and Y points, and typically they have values of +/-12000. Now I've not done graphics work for a long time and when I did, I used OpenGL with C. Now I need a GUI i'm using VB 2008. Firstly, what's the best method of rendering the array of points? should I use some port of OpenGL? GDI? or what?
Secondly, can I simply print to perhaps a Panel on hit of a button? Thirdly, do I have to place any line drwing code in an "OnPaint" event handler? Finally (for now) if my array represents points in a space much larger than the painting surface, how would I scale and scroll the final image within the the proposed Panel? I look forward to your advice.

I have an array of type Double() (1 x n) that I am trying to quickly plot on a graph I've already set up. The only thing I want/need to do is take my array and store it as data points (y-axis values) in the series I already have. What's the best way to do this? Also, will the data points that are plotted change as my array changes, and if not, how would I replot those new points and get rid of the old points?

I have created an app, that reads data from a .txt file, and compares it to data retrieved from a website. The only problem is that my program slows down and sometimes even freezes at specific points in the program. I don't understand why, because that specific point in the .txt file is no different then the rest of the file.
Here is my
Function vertaalGegevens(ByVal teller)
Dim webStream As Stream
Dim webResponse = ""
Dim req As HttpWebRequest
[code]....
I also tried making a different thread, but that became way to complex for this simple program. The text file i import is 1.5 mb big, and contains aproximatly 66,000 records that need to be run trough. These records are contained in a ArrayList. The word "teller" in the code stands for count, this value gets higher each loop. The loop is run outside this peace of code.I was thinking that maybe I didn't close the webresponse object, so I also tried webResponse.Dispose(), with no success.

I'm using mscharts, but my question might not need to be chart related to be answered. My chart contains 5 XY data points that will be shown in a spline (line graph). The X values are from text boxes 1-5, my Y values are from textboxes 6-10. I'm adding them to my chart by code.
[Code]...
My issue is I have to enter the data in order to make my line proper. Is there a way to first arrange the points, then add them to the chart. Otherwise if I add a lesser point in the middle, it "z's" the line.

Private intNumOfPoints As Integer = 0
Private PtTrajectory(intNumOfPoints) As Point[code]....
*Pos.X and Pos.Y are calculated in the other parts of my program. But, it has a run-time error: "Parameter is not valid".

On forms size and such, is it in points or pixels? I'd assume pixels, however, it seems when i make a image that is in the same size, (i put the size as the dimensions for pixels), the image seems not the same size. I'm unsure of how big a "point" is, but i am aware of a pixel.

Im trying to make a scholarship analysis. i want it to be determined by percentage points using the following criteria.
OVERALL GPA
MAJOR GPA
VOLUNTEERED HRS = NUMBER OF REPAIRS * 4
VOLUNTEERED T SHIRT HRS = NUMBER OF SHIRTS * 10
I have inputs for the users name, academic status, overall gpa , major gpa , number of repairs and number of shirts. so how could i use the information to give the user say like 10 out of 10.. if they have 4.0 and alot of hours.. or like 6 out of 10 if they r an average students and have little hours used.

I've rendered a simple rectangle for the background and a bunch of star polygons randomly placed across the form. On the form is a picturebox component which I can move around, but for some reason it overwrites the background and stars when it passes over them. Could someone please explain what is going on there? I've tried performing searches, but have been unsuccessful in finding anything useful.

I am pretty sure that my questions will soon get so annoying you won't answer them, but before it happens.I am using DrawCurve (with density set to default) to draw on my picturebox. I need to know the exact length (well, not *exact* but knowing it is around +/- 1px from exact length would be nice) of the curve drawn.
Is there any function in API I could use to get what I want? If not, could you point me to the algorithm (preferably implemented in any language) that I could use with array of points as an input and length as an output value?

I need to write a simple program that imports tab delimited x,y coordinates into a simple form, by clicking an "Import" button and navigating to the particular .txt file. On the button press I want to read the text file and display these in the shape of anything from a simple square to a slightly more complex closed polygon (maybe using a path function) in the main picture box to view the shape.
Then I would like to press an "Export" button and save the displayed shape coordinates/vertices back to a file location of my choice as a .txt file.

For some reason I could never get over the look of my application, and the Microsoft controls together. Just never looked right. Nor were the controls exactly what I needed. By creating controls I can pretty much custom fit them for my application, and I love it.My question is with drawing these controls. I have 12 of them now in my current project, so I would like to make them all as efficient as possible. The biggest set back to most of them is the drawing can be a little extensive, or at least to a point where they could be more efficient. At the moment, under each paint event I have the brushes created by using blocks and then the drawing happens within them(I create all brushes first, then do the drawing, vice versa with disposing them). My question however came up when I was creating my most recent control, a SimpleList.
I experimented to see(though I'm not sure how exactly to track performance) but instead of recreating the brushes and pens etc in the paint event, I put them at the top so they're only made once, and destroyed once, rather being made and destroyed every time my control paints. My common sense tells me this is a better way of going about this but my experience can't back that up. is this the way I should be going about user drawn controls?, is there any limitations to this?(like would it be okay if I only had a limited number of brushes etc) and is the performance even that greatly impacted by making these changes that it's worth my while?
