View 4 RepliesI'm trying to develop some AI code for a game I'm creating. I have a list of x,y coords and I need help figuring out what I can use/do to build the shortest path between any 2 points in this list. I would like to build a function that I can pass a list of valid X,Y coords to use when generating the path, start point, end point, and have it return a list of points, which would be the shortest path between the start and end point, using the list of points supplied. I have looked at A* and Dijkstra's, but am having problems implementing the algs in code, as all this seems graph based.
View 3 RepliesProblem drawing dotted path lines, with even dots along the path line.I want to draw a path line that can be any shape (square, round, outline etc), and along this path line I want even dots to appear.
I also want to be able to resize the shape (as in the example attached)This is very easy to do using "DrawPath" and defining points for the path and using a pen defined as dots. The problem I have is I want the dots to be evenly placed along the path, on any shape or size I draw.In the example I have created, I create a square with 4 points and draw a dotted path. There are 2 buttons that allows me to resize the square (larger or smaller) this helps show the problem more clearly.
The path starts at the top left corner and finishes back at the top left corner, the dots are evenly placed along the path, except the final dots at the end of the path. (Sometimes the dots are even and other times they are not even). The shapes I want to draw can be any size and any shape, but I have used a square in this example to show the problem I have. point me in the direction I need to go that allows me to draw the dots and give the impression that they are even all along the path, for all shapes and sizes.
In the pictures below if you change the size of the shape, one will have even looking dots, the other will not.

I've rewritten my program so it would be more .net friendly (meaning I try to draw in picturebox.Paint event).
I try to use DrawLines using array of points, which are added by user one by one, but I can't figure out how to force my program to only use points that have been set by user and not the whole array.
When I call DrawLines pointing at my array of eg. 10 points and only 5 had been set, I end up with a nice set of lines with the last going to the upper left corner (0,0) and supposedly staying there for 4 more points, which is unacceptable.
I think of using ReDim Preserve each time, but I am not sure if it is the most efficient way to do this.
Anyone can think of something more elegant before I implement this redim monstrosity?
can i know what code that enable me to list all currently running process and get their path and list all the path in listbox1.

Problem is the limited shapes are fine to draw a router template guide, but they are somewhat limited when it comes to drawing more complex shapes like the router bits that make the shapes in Picture 2. Is there a graphic class that would allow me to plot points and joint the dots like you get in kids colouring in books? Or something a little more adept to complex shapes like curves?
I just spotted something called the Pen Class that I might need to look more into, but not knowing the first thing about graphics. Spotted some advice passel gave in another thread to search vb.net gdi+ tutorial and it looks like the Pen Class might have potential, although I am going to have to revisit some math by the looks of things.
I sent the application exe to a user to test and they get an unhandled exception error and the details show my personal My Documents Folder/DEBUG path from the project. So I tried to use Application.ExecutablePath but when I release that it points to "My Documents" Folder (not the debug) folder. The file to open is in the same folder as the exe is in but for some reason the error occurs because the application is not looking for the file using the path where the EXE was launched from. Here is my code that relates to the section giving my users a problem:

I've come across a very basic problem which I'm sure has a basic answer.Forgive me but I haven't programmed in years and this just a hobby of mine..My problem is that I need a drawn object (say an ellipse) to move to the cursors location when I click. Imagine an adventure quest style game where you view your character in birds eye view, and it moves according to where you click on the map.I can draw the image fine, and move the image around fine - it's more so the formula I'm using which I'm a little stumped on.I have certain requirements though.
1. I need a timer that constantly updates the drawn object's (lets say character from now on) location. Each tick will essentially be the character taking 1 step towards the cursor's location.2. At the end of each tick of the timer, it'll will invalidate the form/control to invoke the paint event, and of course, the objects location will be be updated. It sounded simple enough to create a linear equation based on the objects original location and the location of the cursor when I click. However, that will not give it a fixed speed. If say for example, the gradient (rise/run) between the cursor location and objects location is very steep, the object's y-velocity will be greater than that of the x-velocity

ie

I need to process each array location, but I would like it to be in a random order.
I get an error when I use the following code to create a path as described in the Mastering Visual Basic 2008 textbook. I am entering in in vb2010

I have an application that makes a drawing with measurements both horisontal and vertical. I like to get the vertical measurements to be in direction down-up, not up-down direction as StringFormatFlags.DirectionVertical does. All the measuretexts are drawn to a graphics path. Because that path includes all measures at different locations I can´t TransformRotate that path, the text should be rotated before it is passed to the graphics path, or ? It would be so nice if it would be a StringFormatFlags.DirectionVerticalUp to handle it.

In the below code I load the image to the graphics path using resource image and adding text on it. When I add the image through open file dialog it paints on the form with original size but I need to resize it, add it to the PictureBox, add text to it and give zoom and pan options to it and then I need to save with the original size.
When I resize and when save the image I endi up with a small image.

Is there any way to have 2d graphics that gets made by user through manual dimensions input be bound to a text box?
Is there any way to take position 1000,600 and make that zero? Can we make graphics by inputting only the next co-ordinate and have the pc automatically draw a line from last point?
Also, whats the difference between drawline and draw path? How can I get the shape to remain on screen when I toggle between pages?
I have a graphics application that uses graphics paths. Code seen below. You can use keyboard characters to display information. When a label is set to visible = false after being turned on for a number of seconds a stray image is generated. The stray images are also sometimes generated when the label is first made visible.
' points p10b, p2b etc are defined elsewhere
Dim GrpPoints As PointF() = {p10b, p2b, p3b, p11b, p5b, p6b, p12b}
GrPath = New GraphicsPath ' 7 path points
GrPath.AddBeziers(GrpPoints)
[code]....
I tried stopping the code from running when the label is set to visible = false but the stray image is still generated but just later. If you want more information let me know. The white arrows points to the stray image that is created just after a label that displayed information was set to visible = false
Is the ContextMenu control strictly to offer choices when the user right-clicks some object, or can it be used to offer choices in general?
In my situation, when a user opens a certain type of file, I want to offer a selection of specific subfiles (line ranges) within said file as choices. The presence of subfiles and their number is variable, so this would be a dynamic situation. (No subfiles: use the whole file; three subfiles: present three choices ...)Would ContextMenu be appropriate, or should I offer a list box or combo box or frame of radio buttons instead?

I have manage, to allow user to browse through their files and insert an image path into a local database. The program will then retrieve the image from the image path and will be stored into ImageList. The Listview1 will then add the pictures of Imagelist into the ListView1.Items. Now my question, how can i retrieve back the path of the image when the users click on the selected image from the ListView?

I have a Access program and I'm using VBA code in the background to run Winunzip using shell command. Well, the path of the .zip file has spaces in it and it's not recongizing the path as a valid path. Is there a another way to tackle this problem besides the shell?I can't us pkzip either. View 2 RepliesWe have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.
The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.
So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...

I used to program with Visual Basic 6, so I have alot of old programs that I'm updating, plus I'm learning the new VB2008 methods. I'm writing a program that replaces the old "BitBlit" function which is no longer supported by Visual Basic 2008. It involves three picture boxes, one holds the sprite bitmap, a second holds the mask (silhouette) of the sprite bitmap, and a third has a background image.
