Random List Of Array Points?
Mar 2, 2009I'm trying to generate a list of random points of a 2d array.
ie
(1,0)
(2,1)
(1,2)
(0,0)
(0,1)
....
I need to process each array location, but I would like it to be in a random order.

May 27, 2012I have a program that will compare an array of grocery list items glist and an array of coupon item clist.When I compare the two and if there is a match somewhere in the array I want to have a picturebox visible.When there is no match, I want the picture box not to be visible. [code] The code seems to work great until I come to the else statement.When the code finds a match it displays the picture box and the msgbox without error, but as soon as the message box is cleared, even though i've input it as an ELSE statement, the picturebox goes false again.Does anyone have any idea of how I can "hold" the picturebox to stay visible while the match between the arrays exists?

May 9, 2011I have an global array of points that i want to plot in VB. say X and Y points, and typically they have values of +/-12000. Now I've not done graphics work for a long time and when I did, I used OpenGL with C. Now I need a GUI i'm using VB 2008. Firstly, what's the best method of rendering the array of points? should I use some port of OpenGL? GDI? or what?
Secondly, can I simply print to perhaps a Panel on hit of a button? Thirdly, do I have to place any line drwing code in an "OnPaint" event handler? Finally (for now) if my array represents points in a space much larger than the painting surface, how would I scale and scroll the final image within the the proposed Panel? I look forward to your advice.
VS 2010 Using Array Of Points With E.Graphics.DrawLines
Apr 30, 2010I've rewritten my program so it would be more .net friendly (meaning I try to draw in picturebox.Paint event).
I try to use DrawLines using array of points, which are added by user one by one, but I can't figure out how to force my program to only use points that have been set by user and not the whole array.
When I call DrawLines pointing at my array of eg. 10 points and only 5 had been set, I end up with a nice set of lines with the last going to the upper left corner (0,0) and supposedly staying there for 4 more points, which is unacceptable.
I think of using ReDim Preserve each time, but I am not sure if it is the most efficient way to do this.
Anyone can think of something more elegant before I implement this redim monstrosity?

I have a list of x,y coords and I need help figuring out what I can use/do to build the shortest path between any 2 points in this list. I would like to build a function that I can pass a list of valid X,Y coords to use when generating the path, start point, end point, and have it return a list of points, which would be the shortest path between the start and end point, using the list of points supplied. I have looked at A* and Dijkstra's, but am having problems implementing the algs in code, as all this seems graph based.

How To Get Random Items From Array
Aug 26, 2010I have an array with 280 items in it. I only want 140 of those, so I want to pick them at random. So I need to generate a random number between 0 and the source array's getupperbound property. I think. Is there a more suitable way to pluck an item from an array. I wonder if there's a way to ensure that you don't choose the same item more than once. I suppose I could randomly sort the source array and choose the first 140 items, that would ensure I don't get a repeat item. But could be inefficient if the source array is much larger than the destination array, because I'd be shuffling more values than I need to shuffle. I suppose it's a sampling problem.

For example If there was a website that literally just contains random words (anything over 100 will do) and I could just select a random word from it? C# - Count Occurences In Byte List/array Using Another Byte List/array?
Jun 20, 2011I am trying to get a count of all the times a byte sequences occurs in another byte sequences. It cannot however re-use a bytes if it already counted them. For example given the string let's assume the byte sequence was k.k it would then find only 3 occurrences rather than 5 because they would be broke down like: [k.k].[k.k].[k.k]. and not like [k.[k].[k].[k].[k].k] where they over lap and essentially just shift 2 to the right.
Ideally the idea is to get an idea how a compression dictionary or run time encoding might look. so the goal would be to get down to just 2 parts, as (k.k.k.) is the biggest and best symbol you can have.

Apr 19, 2011I have not messed with VB much and I have been trying to do something that has me stumped. I wanted to create an array of 10 random numbers. Each of these numbers then is printed onto a label. From here I have two more labels that show the highest and lowest value. I got the first part, 10 random numbers show up but then things get shaky.
