getting random number from list of numbers is getting me sick. i am trying to do it for like 20 days now but every time i do it ends up in a loop wich crashes the my.settings system. does anyone have an idea how to get a random number from a list. then delete that number so it cannot be called again. my system must mark some items with numbers but non ofthe numbers may be used more then 1 time the max items in my system is 90. so from 1 to 90 without getting 2 times the same number heres the code i tryd
So how would I use .next (random numbers) to randomly select something from a list of numbers but it can't repeat the number?I could do:
dim num as integer dim r as new random num = r.next(1,5) if num = 1 then elseif num = 2 then etc.
That wouldn't work because it would repeat. If I donwload someone's game can I disect it in VS? :0 I tried going to open project, then I went to the folder and clicked open. It brought me inside of the folder so I tried to open the game but there is no form1 there. It says the games name then .exe in the explorer-like thing in the top right? Also, how would I have a value or something in a label and access it from a button.
Example:This is in a label.
Dim number as Integer number = 0
Then in the button do
Label.number = 0
How would I do something like that? I want to use that a lot as I did in a different language.
I have an array of integers like these; dim x as integer()={10,9,4,7,6,8,3}.Now I want to pick a random number from it,how can I do this in visual basic?
i need a simple way to get a random number from 2 numbers. This means that for example if my 2 numbers are 3 and 7, i don't need a random number between 3 and 7 that would be like 3,4,5,6,7 but only a random that is either 3 or 7. Meaning not all the numbers between x and y, but either x or y.
I'm so confused. Please help me with this program. My teacher wants Receive a lower bound and an upper bound of a range. Also receive a number of random numbers to generate.Generate this many numbers in the specified range and keep track of how many are even, odd, negative, 0, and positive. Do not save the numbers, just the category counts.
Lower bound must be less than or equal to the upper bound (negative or positive or mix).Number to generate must be greater than or equal to 1.Use the GetInput Boolean function (written in class) to retrieve the numbers for data validation, however it must be changed from Double to Integer. Then use additional functionality to test whether they are in the specified ranges. For example, if you successfully GetInput for LB and GetInput for UB, then test LB <= UB. If successful, continue with GetInput for Number to Generate and check >= 1.
I am trying to write a random number function that can just be called from my main module to generate different random numbers. I have tried this several different ways and I am having odd results. Approximately 19 times out of 20 the numbers come back exactly the same, but approximately 1 in 20 they come back as two different numbers. Im using Visual Basic Studio 2008. Here is the code I have so far, or rather, the current version of my many tests I have been running to try and figure it out. Sometimes it takes many runs of the program before the two seperate numbers apear.I've been researching it and have come up with nothing so far.I know I could put them in the module section as two different randoms and it works, but I get extra points if i use a couple classes in my program. This is the main module.
Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim randomNumOne As New RandNum[code]...........
Right so my generator is working, but I now want to take the numbers that it generates and add them to a list of generated numbers. So you can monitor what numbers have been generated. then ideally a way to exclude these numbers from being generated again.
I'm realy green when it comes to programming but I like to think I am learning quickly. However, I cant figure out how to generate a number of random numbers baised on the vailu of a numeric slider. So for example I am generating a number between 1-12 where each point of value for the slider would generate an indiigual number that can all be added to a final total. I would also like to be able to back the slider down to a previous number and have the same total I had last time I was at position x. This is what i have so far:
Im working on writing a program for doing standard deviation and as of right now im running into one slight issue with subtracting my mean from the original numbers. I will post most of my code so you can get an over view but i mostly just want help on this one little part for now. Im going to be making a website for school and put some programming stuff on it so i wanted to make just some random programs for it so this is school related but not really homework. It's line 26 and 27 that this is relating to. When i put a stop in my code and look at the result of arrayDifferences it gives me 0.0 when it should be -1. I know i can go this route and say arrayDifferences(1) = arrayDifferences(1) - arrayAvg but seeing as how i want this to be a random number of numbers input by the user i cant do that.
I'm creating an application that creates a list of 20 ramdomly selected numbers within an array and displaying those numbers in a listbox. I then need to display the duplicate numbers in an adjacent listbox by clicking the find duplicates button. How would I be able to access those 20 numbers in order to find the duplicates?
EDIT: I am so sorry! I have added my thread to the C# discussion thread instinctively wherein in fact I have been creating my application in VB.NET so sorry! Please transfer my thread to the appropriate location! I am currently trying to mess around with a simple mp3 player and am in the process of creating a shuffle list from all the songs in my playlist.
Beginning VB 2010, had a project that requires us to create a list box of 25 randomly generated 0s or 1s. Problem is when I put the loop in, it only repeats the same random number, not different one each loop. What am I doing wrong? This is the code I have so far...Code in Question:
'Declare new random object Dim RandomGenerator As New Random intRandomNumber = RandomGenerator.Next(0, 2)[code]......
The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.
The program must generate 6 unique random numbers but when I click display numbers sometimes it gives me 6 unique numbers and sometimes I get duplicate numbers. I will add the code I have so far.
Public Class frmMain
Private Sub btnExit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExit.Click
I'm converting a user generated list box to an array and then generating a user defined number of random strings and placing it in a textbox. The code I have works fine as it will generate the number of random strings the user wants, except sometimes a line is blank at the top of the list but is counted as a string.
I've read numerous posts and threads about random number generation, but I havent' run across this.If I generate a bunch of random numbers, the results are radically different if I create a new Random generator for each number than if I use on Random generator for all the numbers. The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite, because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......
I am trying to make a texas hold em game and it is of the utmost importance that my code generate a random number. But using a random number function that I always end up with a lot of the same numbers over and over again. Any ideas on how to make it "TRULY" random? [code]
I've made an image viewer which opens a random image from a specified folder, but the random number is not that random at all... I've already used Randomize(), but without result.
I don't take programming lessons at school or anything, and I'm starting to (try to) teach myself about random things.Currently I'm making an app that has 3 functions:
-Random Integer (1 to 100) -Random Answer (Yes or No, similar to a coin flip) -Random Dice Roll (1 to 6)
How would I go about doing this?At the moment all I know about random numbers etc. is that I will need to do something along the lines of Dim dice As New Random or something like that, but, like I mentioned, I have no idea.I am well aware of the DIC rules that you won't write the code for me/do my "homework(?)" for me, and that's not what I'm asking.
Basically, I want to divide two numbers together and they should be 2 random numbers from 1-12 (I have done that part) but, the answer should be a whole number (i.e. Integer, so no decimal points etc) So, I did the following:
' Initialize the random-number generator. Randomize() ' Generate random value between 1 and 12. Dim value5 As Integer = CInt(Int((12 * Rnd()) + 1))
[code]....
but the problem here is that the program crashes after only a few clicks on the button. So I guess the question is: How can I make the program generate two numbers (from 1-12) that when divided become a whole number?(Is there any code that may tell the random generator that I want the numbers to be even?-so all even numbers from 1-12?)
am writing an system application for a company that must generate inquiry id and order id automatically. Whenever a customer makes a new inquiry or new order by clicking the add button, an automatic number should be displayed in the text box and when it's saved, it should be saved in the database access.
I am attempting to create a game in Visual Studio 2008 that allows a user 10 attempts to guess a random number between 1 and 50. I have a label box in which I would like to display the remaining guesses as they decrement. The code so far appears below.
My two (I am sure very basic) questions are:
1. How would I pass the random integer generated through the Generate Integer function to the AmIRight button's click function? I was trying to decrement the counter each time the "Am I Right " button is pressed.
2. I would also like to evaluate each "guess" when the "Am I right button is pressed. Is it possible to nest a Select Case statement in a For Next Loop?
vb.net Option Explicit OnOption Strict OnOption Infer Off Public Class frmMain Private Sub btnExit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExit.Click Me.Close() End Sub Private Sub txtGuess_Enter(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles
i wanted to create a random number generator that iterates through a series of number between an upper and lower bound. say between 1 and 100. Basically I want the number generator to pick the numbers randomly and then display them until all 100 numbers are picked without any duplicates. so thats easy I can code that. But what I don't know is how to show those numbers in the order they are generated on a windows form. So i have basically a variable that I will let be changed 100 times (or however many times I want, I don't want their to be a size constraint just using 100 as an example) and each time the number is generated I want it displayed on screen (in a list or something not sure what. Hopefully some type of scrollable list) and each successive number also to be displayed in same format beneath it so that I can see the list in its entirety. What type of form control do i use for that? I could do messagebox.show for each iteration but then user is required to hit ok after each iteration and that would obviously be a bad idea if user selected a large number to work through. Anyways, code isn't exactly necessary just point me in the right direction, i.e.what control (if any) to use.how to format the change in data?
I am trying to create a lotto simulation, but don't know how to continue.I am using numericupdowns to allow users to select 6 lotto numbers. and labels to display what they have chosen, but i'm not sure how to prevent duplicates without creating a large number of If statementsMy question is, is there an easier way to prevent duplicates without writing a bunch of if statements?here is my code:
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim Lotto1, Lotto2, Lotto3, Lotto4, Lotto5, Lotto6 As Single Lotto1 = Val(NumericUpDown1.Text) lblLotto1.Text = Lotto1 Lotto2 = Val(NumericUpDown2.Text) lblLotto2.Text = Lotto2 Lotto3 = Val(NumericUpDown3.Text)
[code]....
I don't understand how to save the user selected numbers, let the computer generate 6 random numbers, and match the two sets of numbers together to see how many matches there are. As far as I understand the numbers should be stored in 2 separate arrays and then matched together to find any matches.
I have this program generating a firstname and lastname from a file. When I run this program I enter information in three textboxes. The first two are the salary low and high(salary1.text, salary2.text) and the last one is the number of "copies"(copies.text) that I want.. When I put a number such as 10 in the text box it outputs some of the same names. The firstname file has around 100 records and the lastname file has about 1000 records Why is it generating the same name The problem is even worse if I do something like 1000 copies.. it outputs the same thing 8 times and then does something different another 8 times
Public Class Form1 Dim sex As String Function randomfirstname() Dim infile As IO.StreamReader
i want to set a default number and you type in a textbox a random number it should tell you whether it's high or low ,and when you typed in the right nmber it a lable should says something like you win .And also how can you change PART of a lable by typing in a text in a DIFFERENT FORM
I need to write a program that requests a high number and a low number from the user, then the program searches the array and finds all elements within the two numbers. The program is used to search for past presidents, so if I type 43 for low number and 44 for high number, the program will display:
George Walker Bush Barack Hussein Obama
I think I have an idea of how to search up to a certain point, but not to stop at a certain point....Here is the code that I have for that particular sub procedure:
Quote:
Private Sub btnDisplayRqst_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDisplayRqst.Click Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("PRESIDENTS.TXT")
