Jun 22, 2009I have a basic form with four objects placed on it: a Menustrip(Dock = Top), a ToolStrip(Dock = Top), a SplitContainer(Dock = None) and a StatusStrip(Dock = Bottom). As it is now, the MenuStrip, ToolStrip and StatusStrip are exactly where I want them. The problem occurs when I set the SplitContainer dock property to Fill. I thought it would fill the remaining area but it fills the entire form, you can see the outline of it beneath the menu and status strips. Is there something I'm missing in another property box or is there a different way of doing this? The reason I want to set it to Fill is for autosizing when I resize the form.

Aug 7, 2009I have custom collapsible panel control. I put it into a FlowLayoutPanel. he FlowLayoutPanel is docked within my form. The Panel Anchor property is set to Left/Top. The purpose of the anchor is so that if I want to put multiple panels in the FlowLAyout Panel, they will all stay snuggly together when they are expanding and collapsing. The panels work fine.

Forms :: Dock A Toolstrip To The Top Of One Panel ?
Jan 18, 2011This should probably be a different topic, but the reason I was cutting/pasting is that I have a split panel form. I dock a toolstrip to the top of one panel, and then add a datagridview control. I set it to dock to parent, and it does, but goes under the toolstrip, hiding the top of the grid and scrollbar. Not acceptable of course. Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Dock A Control Inside A Panel At Runtime On Windows Forms?
Jul 27, 2009I am designing a simple user interface using winforms. In the designer I have a panel on the form and would like to add a datagridview control into the panel at runtime and set the dock property of the datagridview to 'Fill' so that it fills the panel.
I am struggling to do this and following code is not working out for me:
Dim MyDataGridview as New DataGridView()
MyDataGridView.Dock = DockStyle.Fill
Me.MyPanel.Controls.Add(MyDataGridview)
I don't get an error but the datagridview isn't visible. It gets added 'behind' the panel and so I tried using .SendToBack() and .BringToFront() methods thinking that the panel was hiding the datagridview but this doesn't seem to work either. At any rate, it seems like the datagridview is being added to the form but just not docked within the panel

It already has some docking ability, hiding ability, resizing and moving but there are some problems it wont dock top and bottom without getting confused with left and right. When 1 panel docks another panel will dock on the side of it not the parent container. It needs some kind of splitter container to be able to dock into if you have 2 panels or more docked on the same side but still being able to drag out of it and move somewhere else. Oct 28, 2009I am trying to extend the functionality of the ToolStripPanel control (which is a panel hosting ToolStrips that can be moved during design-time, as I'm sure you know).One thing I wanted to add was a 'ToolStrips' property, which would be a collection of ToolStrips the user can edit via the collection editor in the designer. So instead of manually placing ToolStrips on the ToolStripPanel via the toolbox, the user can just use the property to add/remove (or even edit) them. This is of course similar to how you add/remove/edit TabPages in a TabControl.So, I came up with this code, which I have used successfully in the past for other controls:

The cToolStripPanel control inherits the ToolStripPanel control and adds the ToolStrips property, which is of type ToolStripCollection. That class, in turn, inherits the Collection(Of ToolStrip). In the InsertItem method, I add the 'item' ToolStrip to the cToolStripPanel. Of course I also need to override the RemoveItem / ClearItems methods but that's for another time.I am 100% sure that this code should works, at least for other controls. If you replace ToolStrip with Button (for example), I can add buttons via the property during design-time just fine, exactly the way I want it.But it seems that ToolStrips are special. When I try to Add a toolstrip (via the collection editor Add button), a null reference exception occurs. I've been trying to debug this all day and I've finally come up with a possible candidate for the problem... (I've actually used design-time debugging for the first time ever, which was pretty cool, and which showed me that the InsertItem method is not run!)
I think the problem is that the collection editor cannot create a new instance of the ToolStrip class. I can remember when trying to inherit from the ToolStrip, I was forced to add a constructor, because the ToolStrip "has more than one constructor that can be called with no arguments".Perhaps this is causing my problem? Do I (and if yes, how?) have to somehow control the creation of a new instance of the ToolStrip? Or am I completely off track and that is not what is causing the problem? I'm sure that it's a problem with the ToolStrip class, since I can use the exact same method with other controls just fine. It's only when I change the type to ToolStrip that it starts getting angry at me....

Sep 19, 2011We have an interactive windows based application written in VB .Net 2010. It uses Word Object to display documents in MS Word. We have a form with a button. When the button is clicked we open the Word document and maximize the Word Windowstate. When we have the Visual Studio Tool running, the Word Document is maximized and has focus, even if we are running the exe from the bin folder outside of the tool. However, if Visual Studio is not running and we run the exe, focus remains on the original form window and the document stays in the task bar.
