This should probably be a different topic, but the reason I was cutting/pasting is that I have a split panel form. I dock a toolstrip to the top of one panel, and then add a datagridview control. I set it to dock to parent, and it does, but goes under the toolstrip, hiding the top of the grid and scrollbar. Not acceptable of course. Is there a setting that I'm missing?
View 2 RepliesI am designing a simple user interface using winforms. In the designer I have a panel on the form and would like to add a datagridview control into the panel at runtime and set the dock property of the datagridview to 'Fill' so that it fills the panel.
I am struggling to do this and following code is not working out for me:

I don't get an error but the datagridview isn't visible. It gets added 'behind' the panel and so I tried using .SendToBack() and .BringToFront() methods thinking that the panel was hiding the datagridview but this doesn't seem to work either. At any rate, it seems like the datagridview is being added to the form but just not docked within the panel
I have custom collapsible panel control. I put it into a FlowLayoutPanel. he FlowLayoutPanel is docked within my form. The Panel Anchor property is set to Left/Top. The purpose of the anchor is so that if I want to put multiple panels in the FlowLAyout Panel, they will all stay snuggly together when they are expanding and collapsing. The panels work fine.

It already has some docking ability, hiding ability, resizing and moving but there are some problems it wont dock top and bottom without getting confused with left and right. When 1 panel docks another panel will dock on the side of it not the parent container. It needs some kind of splitter container to be able to dock into if you have 2 panels or more docked on the same side but still being able to drag out of it and move somewhere else. So currently i have been working on a application that is a MDI parent, with child forms. I use a un docked toolstrip as a toolbox since i like the small icons and mouse hover, but one issue that bugs me is that when a child form is open in the parent form it's "under" the toolstrip. For example moving childform1 pass the toolstrip menu makes the form go under rather ontop. Is there anyway to give the child forms foreground when moving?
View 3 RepliesI really want to make use of the toolstrip and databinding but these two technologies keep conflicting with each other. I think the root cause is something to with the fact that the toolstrip buttons don't recieve focus in the normal way.
I invite you to try the following:-
1. Create a form and put some text boxes a tool strip with a save button on it.
2. Write a query or sproc to get a datatable back and bind your text boxes to the field in the datatable.
3. In the code behind your Save ToolStripButton put some code that makes an arbitrary change to a field on the dataset (it doesn't matter whther this field is bound to a text box or not). eg:-
m_DataTable.Rows(0).Item("CommissionRatePerc") = "0.0000"
4. Put a breakpoint in the save and run the form.
5. Make some changes in the text boxes. Do not leave the last text box but rather click save while a text box whose contents you have edited still has focus.
6. When your code hits the breakpoint, query the value of the data table field that is bound to the text box you were editing when you clicked save - it will still contain the unedited value. Unless you do something about it that unedited value is going to get saved back to your DB.
We did get around this problem by explicetely setting the focus to another control on the form before saving. That worked most of the time because it prompts the text box to flush it's value back to the datatable (nb EndEdit does not work, although you'd have expected it to). However, and this is the reason I suggested you add a line of code that changed a value in the underlying datatable in step 3, if you change a value in code in this way before the value from the text box get's flushed back then it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the user's current edit is simply lost. They will still show in the text box, though, leading your user to believe that the change has been committed when it hasn't. Our final solution is that we never ever change a value in the adtaset in the code behind our toolstrip buttons. That's working but it's a pretty big restriction.

View 2 RepliesI am using a textbox which handle the name of the employee and when it get focus i am using a listview with detail view which shows all available employees and user have to select any of them. I am using all this control in a panel, unfortunately listview need more size then panel, and i cannot increase the size of panel. But placing listview inside the panel make its child control and hide the half list view. Is there any way that i can show full list view control under the textbox?

I use drag'n'drop from a datagridview to a panel. The panel holds an array of objects (think rows) so that the items from the datagridview can be dragged to the different objects. I use the y-index from the top of the panel to define what object the item is dragged onto.This works great as long as the object is visible from the start. However, if I scroll down to an object and then drag the item from the dgv, it gets released on the wrong object, as the y-index doesn't take into account the number of pixels I scrolled down. So, what I need is (if it exists) the scroll offset property for the panel, i.e., the number of pixels that I scrolled down. (Then I can add this offset integer to the y coordinate on which the user drops his/her object.)

I want to create forms with panel opacity, but this is not possible. Panel's don't have an opacity option and making the entire form transparent, makes everything you put into it just as transparent.

not quite sure why this is happening but I am just debugging right now and the buttons I am using are opening the wrong forms, I have made sure of the form names, button names etc and it looks all good but specifically the btnPrintReport is opening up the form enterAuditForm while btnProcessAudit is opening printAuditForm instead of their correct ones.
Here's my code, it is rather simple. The reason why I am using a separate sub as my btnPrintReport is because I am using that also on the baseForm's OnLoad Event, which again is also opening the wrong form.
