View 2 RepliesI have multiple forms within a form, typically up to 16, and I want these "inside" forms to snap all edges between eachother or the parent form edges, when a form is resized or moved, and edge comes within x pixels of any other edge.How should I approach this? What I can think of is to raise an event on the form that is moved/resized which calls a parent form handler method that loops through all the forms, check the edges and then keeps fixing (repositioning) the active form if any of its edges is close to any other form edge

View 4 RepliesThis should probably be a different topic, but the reason I was cutting/pasting is that I have a split panel form. I dock a toolstrip to the top of one panel, and then add a datagridview control. I set it to dock to parent, and it does, but goes under the toolstrip, hiding the top of the grid and scrollbar. Not acceptable of course. Is there a setting that I'm missing?
View 2 RepliesI know how to dock a component using the windows forms designer as well as through code but I am having a problem with one thing. I am trying to dock a richtextbox on a panel through code but it seems to be filling up all of the space instead of just the panel. When I put it on the form and dock it works fine. The code I am using is:

I am designing a simple user interface using winforms. In the designer I have a panel on the form and would like to add a datagridview control into the panel at runtime and set the dock property of the datagridview to 'Fill' so that it fills the panel.
I am struggling to do this and following code is not working out for me:
Dim MyDataGridview as New DataGridView()
MyDataGridView.Dock = DockStyle.Fill
Me.MyPanel.Controls.Add(MyDataGridview)
I don't get an error but the datagridview isn't visible. It gets added 'behind' the panel and so I tried using .SendToBack() and .BringToFront() methods thinking that the panel was hiding the datagridview but this doesn't seem to work either. At any rate, it seems like the datagridview is being added to the form but just not docked within the panel
How can I have my VB.net application take a picture of me from my webcam? Nothing too complicated,
View 2 RepliesI have so far written a program where you click a button and a custom control is added to the form. These controls can then be dragged and positioned anywhere on the form.I know want to be able to align/snap these controls.Please advise if you know of a way to drag a control on a form and snap it in line with another control?
View 1 Repliesim looking for a free version of the following [URL] and wondered if anyone knew of anything that existed something that you can drag and snap panels in to other panels then save the layout of these panels preferably to a database. If they is no free versions anyone can think of (i have looked and cannot find anything :/ ) how easy would it be to program such a Ajax or asp control?

View 11 RepliesOkay, what I want to do is snap a movable panel to the form, like create a virtual grid kind of thing. The panels can be moved with the mouse and stop moving once the left mouse key is released.For the movable panel I have used a Class, it creates an object called NewComp in the toolbox.
Public Class NewComp
Inherits Panel
Public Sub New()

It seems that the autosize columns will only make them bigger. For example, if I have a DGV that fills most of the form and then only three small columns are loaded, there is a whole bunch of darkgrey empty space. Is there any way to snap the side of the DGV to the actual data?

View 6 Repliestried to dissable the Snap to Grid feature from the "Tools" menu "Options" under the category "Windows form Designer "General" with out any luck, every time I tried to postion any of my controls on the form, I still see the blue and pink alignment lines and I can not align them where I would like to postion my controls on the form, any one can shed some light on this feature or could it be a bug?
View 1 RepliesI installed VS2008 and just VS2010, both allow me to freely move objects around in the HTML Design View.However, I would like to be able to snap the objects in alignment.It is hard to space text boxes and buttons when everything is free flowing.
View 2 RepliesLong time since I was active on this forum, but I recently picked up VB.NET again. I'm working with VS 2010 Express now, and I want to create a little app that resides on the side of my screen (about 40px wide), to collect data.
I've seen this program, Trillian, 'docking' to the right side of my screen, thereby making the maximized size of all windows just as much as the space left of the application window. In other words, even if I maximize other programs, the Trillian application stays visible at all times, on the right side of my screen.
Now I was wondering, is there any similar effect possible with VB.NET?
I have started to work some more on my 'shape editor'. If you're not familiar with it,ust imagine the Visual Studio form designer: a 'canvas' (the form) with a bunch of 'shapes' (the controls) that can be selected, moved, resized, etc. I have just finished implementing snapping between shapes and the canvas boundaries. But now I am having some slight issues with painting the snap lines.Just FYI: this is what I mean by snap lines:The blue lines that indicate that the 'buttons' are snapped to each other, and a purple line indicating that button1 is snapped to the boundary.
My shape editor is based loosely on jmcilhinney's 'manipulating GDI+ drawings' codebank entry, and a central idea in that post is to only draw what is necessary. In other words, when I move a shape I could re-draw the entire canvas, but it is much faster and smoother to only re-draw the old and the new location of the shape. Since nothing else has changed, I don't need to draw the rest. So, I simply invalidate the old bounds and the new bounds, and even with a lot of shapes all moving simultaneously it still feels very smooth.
Theres no error that is stroked with red but when i try draging a icon i just dont work ::(
heres the code:
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Imports System.IO

Public rowz = 50

View 7 RepliesCan any one tell me is it possible to dock one object to another.Currently i have a datagridview in my form which i docked to bottom at runtime.after that i added a status bar to the form, and by default its docked bottom at design.when i run the application. status bar has come above the datagrid. and the grid is docked to bottom.
I want status bar to be at bottom of the form and Datagrid to be docked to the top of the status bar.is it possible.PBL (Visual Studio 2010 Professional, Win 7 64 bit Ultimate)
This is a big idea and I'm unsure of how easy or difficult this really is. I do not know how I would get this even started. What I am trying to accomplish is "docking" so to speak, a sub form into the original. Basically, there are 2 forms open, but one is like a helper so to speak. This concept is not new as many programs use it. An example is a program widely used call Teamviewer. If you use Teamviewer, open the "Partner List" Pane at the bottom to see exactly what I am talking about. Basically, it opens a new form that is next to it.

How do i get a Shockwaveobject to dock into form1
View 1 RepliesI created a basic winform project where I want to handle all resizing without writing a single line of code. I set up controls using dock/anchor. They all work properly, until I add a custom UserControl. When I first press F5, the project works fine. However when I get back to the IDE some (but not all) controls which have anchor right/bottom are resized/moved into positions and sizes not previously defined. Some cannot even be restored as they are moved permanently below the container's boundary with coordinates above 2000. If I fiddle around and test the project many times, all controls with right/bottom anchoring will go haywire eventually.
If the custom UserControl has controls inside with right/bottom anchoring those also get resized in weird ways. Adding the controls again solves the problem temporarily. It is the IDE that moves these controls around since these movements are displayed in the undo stack right after I exit testing the project (however,undoing these steps only messes things up even more).I am using VB 2010 on Windows 7 x64.
Basically I want to make a dock bar that is on the desktop, I want to be able to drag files into it and when the files are dragged in there icon appears and when you click the icon it opens the file
View 14 RepliesI am new to VB 2008 programming The first project I've been tasked with is creating a ticker/notice-board for our office - which will show Horizontaly scrolling updates of incidents being reported. I'm ok with the scrolling, keeping on top etc - but what I am unable to do is make my form dock to the top of the desktop window, and make any other applications windows smaller.
So that when any other application is maximized, it's window will not go behind my ticker application - so people can still easily use any other applications toolbar etc. Is this possible to do in VB 2008?
Is there any compnent I can add to add a mac-like
View 8 RepliesI have a tab control on my MDI parent form that I want to have docked so just the tabs show from the bottom up on the screen. Then on mouse over it slides open to reveal another form/controls that are contained in the tabs.
Just to understand me a little better I am including some images.
The first is where I want the tabs to start. The second is where I want it to slide to on mouse over or click.
I have custom collapsible panel control. I put it into a FlowLayoutPanel. he FlowLayoutPanel is docked within my form. The Panel Anchor property is set to Left/Top. The purpose of the anchor is so that if I want to put multiple panels in the FlowLAyout Panel, they will all stay snuggly together when they are expanding and collapsing. The panels work fine.
