I have a .dat file in my resource folder that has 1 line in it. I need to read that 1 line into a string so i can use it in my program. Then I need to write another string into a new .dat file into my resource folder.

I'm trying to make a program that can read .mp3 data (Such as Artist, Album, Year, Track number, etc), but I need to be able to do two things that I have no clue how to do:
1. Read starting from a specified string (E.G, On one line it states: [code]
2. Read until a specified string (E.G, On the previously stated line,I need to read starting from what I said, up until.
I'd like to be able to set a HttpWebRequest to read teh contents of a text file located on a website (ive seen it done, they use a webrequest and set it to a string, but i can't find it anymore o.O)

I have a feeling it is an easy one, but for the life of me i cant figure it out. My project at the moment is to grab content from a website and use it in some way (havent worked out this part yet, still trying to get the data).
Currently, i have grabbed the whole website and written it to a text file.. No dramas there. Then i read each line until i find a certain string... Again, no dramas. MY problem is; after reading and finding the certain string, i want the program to grab whatever "characters" there are until it reads a certain string again, and then put those characters into a string for later use.
so for example:
READ WEBSITE...
CREATE TXT FILE...
[Code].....

I'm trying to get a string from a byte array previously read from memory
i can get the string like this
dim mem as string= ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(memory) or dim mem as string= UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetString(memory) but when i try to concatenate this with another string i get a strange result dim result as string = "this is you memory string " & mem & " problem string" no matter what comes after mem in the concatenation it seems like it is not there when in fact it is because when i try this (mem has two chars in it) dim result as string = "this is you memory string " & mem(0) & mem(1) & " problem string" problem string appears so what i assume is that there are some vbCrLf chars in the string after reading (or is it from the conversion?)
I use the following command to save my textbox strings to the file:

Ive figured out how to open a file to read and then display it, and i can probably work out how to write a string to a file. The part i am stumped by is this. Say i open a text file with the following text I has a badger i then want to correct this to I have a badger.
Its just an example and not for a grammar corection program. What i want to do is detect what was said and alter it acordingly. I presume this would come under string manipulation but i cant find any details on this.
I would like to know how to read from text file that have a line with string A and ignore lines with string B.

I have a text file (CSV) approx 100k lines (8Mb). I want to search the entire file for a particular string eg, "apple" and for all lines containing the string to be printed in a text box. have successfully done this using streamReader to parse the CSV and check each element against the search word eg. apple. This has proven to be very very slow and I have read that the "ReadAllLines" method is much faster.

I would like to read an HTML file, search each line to see if it starts with </head>. Then add the centering code after it. That line at destination file should read:

I need to read lines from file. Now my code is like this:

Now if some user will change add or remove the data from this file, it will end up with error or sth. I also tried to write sth like this:

But there appears an error, that open is not declared and IO functionality is microsoft.visualbasic namespace. I added this name space (at the top: Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic), but this error still occurs.
I'm using vb 2010 express and composing a program that is using english and hebrew. The problem is the hebrew characters are not showing up in vb when reading the file I stream to. I would like for it to show exactly how I have it written in the text file.

Lets say I have a mutli-line text box, is it possible, and if so how would I go about making it so if I clicked Open with > editor I could do things with this text, such as TextBox.text = [file contents]. Im trying to make a game launcher, and I want to have it first see if there are updates. I know this is a really simple problem, but I can't figure it out. This is the code. I want it to read the link.txt and version.txt in the same folder instead of C:/ Oh and make it so it unzips the update into the same folder, and replaces the old files for the new ones.
