Correcting A String - Open A File To Read And Then Display It?
Sep 18, 2009
Ive figured out how to open a file to read and then display it, and i can probably work out how to write a string to a file. The part i am stumped by is this. Say i open a text file with the following text I has a badger i then want to correct this to I have a badger.
Its just an example and not for a grammar corection program. What i want to do is detect what was said and alter it acordingly. I presume this would come under string manipulation but i cant find any details on this.
I am manipulating xml with lots of date of birth. XMLs are already loaded onto datatable. The format we need is "dd/MM/yyyy" The dates are messy such as "dd-MM-yyyy" or "dd.MM.yyyy" so I am thinking to write a function that will auto correct on a set of predefined separators to a correct format. so I am thinking to do something like this but of course, this won't just work.i cannot use replace to replace an array. If i can just do that, everything would be fine. Hope someone can point out a way around. [code]
what i need to do is open a txt file, read line by line, decode each line into an array and display. Now all works ok apart from one line.
sTextLine = objReader.ReadLine() <-- Value of string cannot be converted.
full code here ------------- Dim objReader As New System.IO.StreamReader(sOpenFile.Text) Dim sTextLine As New ArrayList() Dim sText As String = "" Dim i As Integer = 0
I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically
I've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function. The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents. So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.
My program creates a array of numbers as entered by a user and then finally adds them up. The form should be able to display the numbers typed in by the user. I know how to put one of these numbers into separate labels and could display each number that way but I wanted to know if there is a simple way to display the string that is created as a list in perhaps a read only text box or similar?
I want to rewad values from an Excel file that is always open and updating. I was using standard code to open up Excel and read from it, which worked fine, but that opens a new instance of the sheet. I need to read from a sheet that's already open.
I'm using xlWorkBook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open("c:\example.xls") which opens a new instanc of example.xls.
If example.xls is already open, is there a way of reading from it?
My question is a rather simple one and to be honest with you, I am not sure if it can be done. Lets say I have a mutli-line text box, is it possible, and if so how would I go about making it so if I clicked Open with > editor I could do things with this text, such as TextBox.text = [file contents]. If it's not possible just let me know and I'll stick with open file dialogs.
OK not the greatest title but this one is not too easy to put in a few wordsi have a jpg file for example with a custom file extension of jjj for examplenow i associate .jjj with my application so that when i click a .jjj file my application runs.
I finished a course on VB in school. Now, I know how to read in a file, but I'm only used to plain text files. The file type I wish to use is called .pkm. It is a pokemon file type (yes, pokemon, don't make judge). Anyways, it's basically a file full of hex values that the game reads to display a pokemon. A friend of mine made a program that displays the hex from this file. He used Delphi so I'm not really sure about it in VB.
I have a vb program that reads data from an excel sheet and displays it in a datagridview. The problem with this program is that it is able to read the data and display it only when the excel file is opened but when the excel file is not opened, it gives an error report that[code]...
I am trying to create a form that opens a text file and displays the text in the textbox on my form. I am supposed to use a function to get the string of text from the file. Then I am supposed be able to click a button to call on the function. I have to use the OpenFileDialog to get the file and the path of the file can be anything (it is not a certain file). I am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to get this to work. I have tried coding it and this is what I have come up with:
Public Class Form_BaseClass Function ReadFile() As String Dim OpenFileDialog As New OpenFileDialog
In Visual Studio, how can I open a source file (from another project) in read-only mode? I want to copy some code from it, but I don't want to modify it by mistake.I don't want to change the file's attributes to read-only, as I will not be able to work on it later, unless I clear read-only.
I have created 2 format types(ELEMENT, ATTRIBUTE) of XML File.To open and read the ELEMENT Format type and write the row into TEXT string for display is fine but the ATTRIBUTE is not working. The problem is how to identify the format type at runtime in order to develop the script. The scripts below works on ELEMENT format and not on ATTRIBUTE type..How to identify the Format type? [code]
i need to read binary file and in this file found the string and replace it with other one and save the file afterwords. I found many example to read binary, but to find and replace is for me mistery.
I want the title bar to display the name of the file currently open or untitled (and maybe a * when it is unsaved) by the way this is all for a little notepad like program. and secondly, I would like there to be a button that the user can press so that the current document can be opened up into a internet browser so the html code inside if any will appear as a webpage.
i have a string with the value = "/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/" i need to read the next 13 letter after this string in a text file i am also using a loop to do this multiple times
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim Header As String = "/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/"
I want to write a small program which can be read the content of the text file or via the textbox and then displays the characters content into "Big5" code (Traditional Chinese Font coding).
Before I start, I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to ask. Okey, so I'm making my own Notepad, which will contain newer features. (Private use only though) One of them being tab control.
Now I want the program to be in the "Open With..." menus for all files, so I can choose myself.
And if the program is already running when user opens a new file, I want the text to appear in a new tab, instead of a new window of the program.
I tryed to be straight forward, and keep it short. So if you need more info, fell free to ask.
I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and attempting to get information on how to Open, Close, Read and Write a disk file in Windows using VB. I have attempted to use help on the home page of Visual Basic 2010 Express with no results. It does not give me any instruction or sample.
I am trying to open a .csv file via openfiledialog and then display information on a datagridview...What would be some ways to approach this? I have tried reading the file, separating the values by commas and placing them in a string followed by placing the string into a list. I place them in a list because I have more than one string of text I want operated in the CSV file. How can I display each string of separated values onto my datagridview?
How do you read a CSV file and display the results in a grid in Visual Basic 2010? This sounds so simple but I still can't find the answer to it after googling for a while. I have DataGridView on a form and it's called DataGridView1. I have a csv with just 3 columsn of data and I want to be able to display them.
