Using A Function To Open A Text File And Read It?

I am trying to create a form that opens a text file and displays the text in the textbox on my form. I am supposed to use a function to get the string of text from the file. Then I am supposed be able to click a button to call on the function. I have to use the OpenFileDialog to get the file and the path of the file can be anything (it is not a certain file). I am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to get this to work. I have tried coding it and this is what I have come up with:

I am using VB 2008 express and I am reading text file line by line in assist of EOF function. Problem is, that this function doesn't read the last line (In VB6 works properly). I want to ask if this problem on my side in my code and how to solve this problem with reading the last line.

I have created 2 format types(ELEMENT, ATTRIBUTE) of XML File.To open and read the ELEMENT Format type and write the row into TEXT string for display is fine but the ATTRIBUTE is not working.The problem is how to identify the format type at runtime in order to develop the script.The scripts below works on ELEMENT format and not on ATTRIBUTE type..How to identify the Format type? I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically

I have 2 List boxes, a textbox, and a command button.What I am trying to do is take about 100 text files that all have certain text in them that I need to change at run time to whatever I put into the textbox. For instance Each Text file has my old company name and I want to be able enter my new name into the textbox and click the command button and the app will open each text file, find the text that I specify and replace it with my new name then save the file into a specified folder.What elements should I be studying to make this happen? So far this is what I've come up with:
OpenFileDialog - to open the file
StreamReader - to read the text files and find the text that I specified
**Not sure on the replace method**
StreamWriter - to write the text from the textbox to the new file
SaveFileDialog - to save the file to the specified location

I've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function.The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents.So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.

I'm using vb.net 1.1 to develop the program. I got text files that contain test result from a machine, like below.

I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.

I saved a file with the extension .doc. I use the RichText to write and save the text. I did not set any encoding type when I saved it. When I tried to open the file in the Richtextbox again, I got all the formatting characters in the RTF file. How do I correct this? How do I open and re-open a .doc file in the Rich Text box control without the formatting showing up in the box with the document contents?

I want to rewad values from an Excel file that is always open and updating. I was using standard code to open up Excel and read from it, which worked fine, but that opens a new instance of the sheet. I need to read from a sheet that's already open.
I'm using xlWorkBook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open("c:\example.xls") which opens a new instanc of example.xls.
If example.xls is already open, is there a way of reading from it?

My question is a rather simple one and to be honest with you, I am not sure if it can be done. Lets say I have a mutli-line text box, is it possible, and if so how would I go about making it so if I clicked Open with > editor I could do things with this text, such as TextBox.text = [file contents]. If it's not possible just let me know and I'll stick with open file dialogs.

I have completed the vb tutorial on

and have successfully got a file name from the open file dialog when coded as part of the "Public Class Form1" -> Private Function btnOpenXML_Click function that was generated automatically by vb. The openFD was generated by adding the OpenFileDialog to the pane underneath the form.

Ive figured out how to open a file to read and then display it, and i can probably work out how to write a string to a file. The part i am stumped by is this. Say i open a text file with the following text I has a badger i then want to correct this to I have a badger.
Its just an example and not for a grammar corection program. What i want to do is detect what was said and alter it acordingly. I presume this would come under string manipulation but i cant find any details on this.

Before I start, I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to ask. Okey, so I'm making my own Notepad, which will contain newer features. (Private use only though) One of them being tab control.
Now I want the program to be in the "Open With..." menus for all files, so I can choose myself.
And if the program is already running when user opens a new file, I want the text to appear in a new tab, instead of a new window of the program.
I tryed to be straight forward, and keep it short. So if you need more info, fell free to ask.
