View 2 RepliesI've been asked by a local window cleaner to design a small utility that can display a grid of customer data, sort them, and then export it out as a formatted .txt or rtf file.
View 14 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic Express 2010. I have the prompt, the textbox and the calculate button. For the answer do I have to make a separate label for the answer in seconds and the actual response "That will take (separate label for answer) seconds" I made a click event button and assigned the following as global variables at the start of the form:
Const intSpeed As Integer = 1207
Const intTime As Integer = 3600
Then I made a click event for the button. I don't know what the formula is. Basically the user inputs a distance in the box, the calculate button tells you how long it will take for the vehicle to travel that distance in seconds.
Here's the interface: [URL]
Criteria:
Are We There Yet?
The Thrust SSC, a super fast vehicle tracked at 1207 Km per hour (750 mph) was clocked on the Black Rock desert back in 1977. Build an application that will tell people how many seconds it would take to get to their destination if they were driving the vehicle. Of course this doesn't include having to stop for stop signs, travel through school zones, or slow down for corners.
You need to include the following:
1.) Design the application with a prompt label and textbox to collect the distance from the user.
2.) A calculate time button
3.) The form must have the text property changed to read "Are we there yet?"
4.) The objects must have both the Text property and Name property changed to an appropriate value.
5.) A constant global variable should be used to represent speed of the vehicle.
6.) A constant global variable should be used for seconds (there are 3600 seconds in an hour)
8.) A local Dim variable declaration can be used within the button click to hold the distance value.
7.) Variables should be declared with the most appropriate data types.
8.) Include a "Text Changed" event to reset the time in seconds to a blank value when the user starts entering in a new distance.
9.) Comment code should be included
In a label box, I want to list a couple of websites, email address along with some text. How do I go about it?
Potential uses- As a Help > About dialog box where websites, email of the author can be listed.
To make things as easy as possible for the user, and encourage visiting of the mentioned websites.
Simple text will be ignored, while standard blue color, underlined text with hand mouse-cursor will need no thinking on user's part.
Whenever I modify a file in the IDE in Visual Basic Express 2008, and then press the "Save" or "Save All" button, the "Save As" dialog opens, then says that a file of that name already exists and requests confirmation of the save. This didn't happen in Express 2005 as far as I remember.
View 3 RepliesI was just wondering if someone could show a code sample that will remove any duplicate text from Textbox1.text (with multiplelines).
I need to remove the sentence "Send a private message to" and prevent it from entering Textbox1.text.
I just installed Visual Basic 2010, went through some tutorials on how to display files, but can't find any material on how to select and embed existing PDF files into a form.
View 4 RepliesI am making a Help-form for my application. A Help-form normally has a ListView on the left and a RichTextbox on the right. When you click on a Help topic in the ListView, the text in the RichTextbox is supposed to change accordingly. The text file is part of the application's resources.

I am reading a temperature value from a transceiver into the serial port and I want this value to change the value of a label in my Visual Basic Form. This value changes every few seconds. I am using the code below:
Me.dataReceived.Text &= [text]
where dataReceived is the label I am using and [text] is the data I am reading from the serial port. This results in the data being displayed but instead of overwriting the label, it writes the value after each other. (The data is appended). I tried to remove the & before the = but this did not work as nothing showed up.?The code I am using is the following:
'To receive data into the text field

I finally finished all my labels and textbox codes for this button. But now I have to code it so that I will be able to click the button and it will calculate all the wrong and correct answers in the labels and then finally place the percentage score in the uiScorePercentagelabel. What I dont understand is how to calculate all the different labels as one and then show the percentage right in the appropriate label.
Trying to use icons on my visual basic form but don't know how to place the icon and label so that they are linked and when the are clicked they get highlighted and stuff like the basic desktop icons.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering how to get a certain data from a MS database and display in a label. Example(Database entries)
[Code]....
The name will be displayed in the label depending on the year and number typed in two text boxes. So if typed 2009 and 1001, the label should display name2. I don't have any background on SQL. The only thing I did for now is that I added the database in the data sources and added a TableAdapter.
I would like for my program to navigate via textbox1.text with multiple lines and multiple url links inside of it. I know how to make the webbrowser1.navigate via textbox1.text with multiple lines, however I want my webbrowser to navigate to each url every 1-1.5 seconds once button1 is clicked. Yes, my webbrowser1 will navigate to the specified urls via the textbox1.text (multilines) with a button click, but I need the webbrowser1 to navigate in a order sequence from top to bottom of Textbox1.text (multiplelines) every 1 second. Here is the current code that I have to navigate via multilined textbox1.text control in order sequence:

In a while loop, I am writing a progressively increasing integer value (between 0 and 100) to the Value attribute of a ProgressBar control, when it disappears from the window in which it resides. I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.
View 9 RepliesHow do I disable the background compiler for Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008?
For my sins, I have to work on a large VB.NET project and it often locks up for 20 seconds at a time whilst doing the very helpful background compilation
I'd rather work blind between compiles and be able to do some work.
I am trying to make a console program in Visual Basic on Visual Studio 2008. I want to ask the user of the program if he wants the premium version or the standard version. If he chooses the premium version, then I want it to say premium in his "receipt" later on and if he chooses standard, then standard in the receipt.

I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional and I'm trying to make it so I can click a button to send the application to the System Tray and then click the icon in the System Tray to make the application come back.
Can anyone provide me a method or sample code to do this?
I'm creating a number guessing game. [Code] Textbox1.text refers to the answer input by player. There are two labels for displaying the range of the answer within. Label1 and Label2 refer to the lower limit and higher limit respectively. If the input value is smaller than the answer, the label1 will show the number that input into texybox1. If the input value is larger than the answer, then vice-versa. However, the program doesn't work as my expectation. Once I input the answer, the MsgBox doesn't appear. When the input value is smaller than the answer, the label1 doesn't show the input value.
View 15 RepliesI am very new to Visual Studio Application Development. I'm mostly a DB guy. I used Visual Studio as a Report Designer, not much of an .Net guy though I can understand it. I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.

Now i need to figure out how to program it so you can see a 3D space, click on the mouse and drag and the grid will follow the mouse.Likecreate a grid, i wish to give it a grid of 150 x 150 grid pixles.
View 2 RepliesI'd like to make a textbox that accepts only numbers, but not integer, but rather double.I've read here about e.Handled = Not Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) and it works, but again, it can be used only for integer, since it declines decimal point.Another thing I've read here is If Not Double.TryParse(TextBox2.Text, value) Then .... and it would work fine, except that it allows only decimal comma instead of point.

I have several buttons in my form and they each need to add, subtract, divide and multiply certain values together but I seem to be having problems with this. I didn't expect anything to go wrong and its probably a rookie mistake, but take my first calculation for example; a user must enter a value in a textbox (txtDays) and and also when one of my various radio buttons are pressed a value shows in a label (lblDailyHireCharge). I now need a way of multiplying these values to give me my answer shown in a label. I have done this by adding a button when which pressed multiplies the txtDays value with the lblDailyHireCharge and then shows it in the label, however it keeps on showing "0" when i click it.
Below is my code, I am basically saying that the value of both of those figures is intDuration and that lblDuration is where I want it to go when the button is clicked.
Private Sub btnDuration_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDuration.Click
Dim intdays As Integer
Dim intDailyHireCharge As Integer
Dim intDuration As Integer

When I click a Button I what to save all the textBox's text on my form. The code I have Is Below.

View 3 RepliesI am looking for special tag codes that can be used to define certain words in a diffierent font format, like bold, italic, etc. I have a special command that accepts initial tag and end tag to these special words. So, these tags must be interpreted by textbox in VB to turn some words in bold, for instance, and change back to normal font after those words.
The command I have is:
textbox.text = data_base_name.FieldByName("field_name").HighlightedString(index as long, start_tag as string, end_tag as string)
The effect in the textbox should be like this:
Example of special word in bold.Any one knows about the existance of these special tag codes? I wonder if there is something like old DOS Codes, or ANSI, that can be recognized in VB textboxes.
