Webservice Dataset - Classic ASP Page Which Reads Incoming XML
Jul 28, 2009
I have a classic ASP page which reads incoming XML, Queries the database based on the values in the XML and returns an XML page with the results from the query. How can i invoke a .NET webservice with some values which sends to the classic ASP page and returns the results as a Data Set?
I am calling Classic ASP Webservices from a .NET application. I have two instances of slow processing of the webservice and fast processing. The slow way (several seconds at the most) is where I actually read the data returned as such:
Dim oRequestAOCP As WebRequest Dim oResponseAOCP As HttpWebResponse = Nothing Dim dataStreamAOCP As Stream = Nothing Dim readerAOCP As StreamReader = Nothing
[code]....
What can I do to speed things up when I need data returned?
I'm writing an application in vb.net 2005. The app reads a spreadsheet into a DataSet with ADO.NET and uses a column of that table to populate a ListBox. When a ListBox Item is selected, the user will be presented with detailed information on the selected record. One part of this information isn't in the DataSet. I have to compare a column from the spreadsheet with several external data sources to determine the nature of the record in question. Here's where I have my problem. This comparison has to search through 9.5m rows in a SQL table at one stage. I've checked and there's no way to "shrink" the query down as I'm already only searching absolutely essential data. What happens is that the application never visibly does anything. The CPU usage shoots up to 100% regardless of what it was at beforehand and the system's performance becomes almost unbearably slow. Can anyone suggest a way I can improve this situation while this massive query is running? I was originally going to write the contents of the 9.5m rows in the database table to a text file which I'd then read from, but after 6.5m rows, I got an OutOfMemoryException.
My application reads information from an Excel spreadsheet into a DataSet (ds1) which is then filtered into another DataSet (ds2) based on user-specified criteria. The information is basically telephone call logs that reflects when a phone call was made, what extension it was made one, how long the call was, what number was called, etc. When the user's "search" criteria is matched in ds1 above, the application adds the number called to a ListBox on the form. When the ListBox Item is selected, additional information (call duration and such) is displayed to the right of the ListBox. My problem is that a single phone number could have been called multiple times on an extension within the date range the user specifies and for each occurrence of that number in the ListBox, the "expanded" info only reflects the information for the 1st call to that number listed in the DataSet.
The only unique identifier I have is the DateTime field for the row (as this goes up to the second). I thought about putting it into the ListBox item, but I'd prefer that this date not be visible until the user selects the ListBox item to view the details for that call. [code]
I have a VB.Net project that creates a new Webbrowser instance which then navigates to a page in order to read the HTML into a variable ( then modify this before displaying in a visable webbrowser). The issue i have is that the webbrowser navigate just reads the page from the cache and does not read it from the server.
In the process of converting a page from normal postbacks to AJAX-calls (using JavaScript to load/control the UI entirely and use ASP.Net strictly as a backend), I found myself wanting to replace a GridView with a AJAX-sourced dataset.
I have a hardware which sends out packets containing 17 bytes to the comport in bursts of 3. the little test VB that I have written receives and displays the bytes in a line of 17 bytes long and works fine until it gets to around 170th packet, then it starts to mix up (looks like shifting the data left) the bytes shift mostly by one digit sometimes by two. then it will continue to give almost a packet correct and a packet shifted for about 50 packets. Then it will correct itself for a long while, but then the speed at which it receives drops. All the packets are sent 3 times, and before things go wrong (within the first 170 packets) the packet counter shows that it receives 3 packet each time but after the problem it goes to 2 packet per burst and then to one.
If i close my VB monitoring program say at packet 165 and immediately open it again, it wont go wrong for another 170 packets, this points the finger at VB. I have check my hardware, there is no problem with that. The program reads port - waits for 17 bytes - once 17 has been received it will go and buffer the packet in an array. In fact they are 2 arrays but printing fro either results in the same problem.I have tried whatever i could think of but to no avail, i am wondering if some kind of house keeping needs to be done to clear something... I am sorry the program is a bit messy but I have been making many changes to find out what the problem is - my code below:[code]
I'm using javascript to send a array to my code behind so it can be saved. And also to redirecting the page to the next dataset. function ChangeMonth(utcDate){ PageMethods.javaGetArray(colors); alert("saving..."); window.location = "./transport.aspx?date=" + utcDate; } This works perfectly when there's an alert in between, the saving and the redirect. If I delete the alert it just redirects without saving.
i am working on project jigsaw puzzle game . i have done with coding in classic asp using vb script and it working properly . i want to do same coding asp.net using vb.net but css style i was written it was not working properly in asp.net
I need to be able to use an Classic ADO Recordset in an VB.Net application. I need to be able to Edit the recordset in a gridview, unfortunatly, the DataGrid in VB.Net only seems to work with ADO.NET.I am not in a position to redesign the application to use ADO.NET, much of the database code was converted from an old VB6 application. Is there any way to either convert back and forth between a recordset and RecordSource so that I can use the dataset that I already have, or is there a classic ADO datagrid that is compatible with VB.NET.
I have a controller board that is built by us that sends strings to the serial port based on inputs that it receives. The app we are working on seems to be receiving the data fine but it is displaying it in an odd way and I'm sure it is a simple problem I am overlooking. Here is the incoming code so far:
Private Sub SecuritySerialPort_DataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles SecuritySerialPort.DataReceived ReceivedText(SecuritySerialPort.ReadExisting()) 'Automatically called every time a data
I've created a VB DLL in Visual Studio 2008 Professional. Not sure what I need to do to call the code below from a classic asp page. I have had other ASP pages to call a DLL. I'm not sure If I have a Dot Net DLL
or what. Bottom line I just want to create a simple DLL that can be called by
I realize that VB.NET and ASP.NET are the successors of their seemingly obsolete classic counterparts, but I have noticed that some job descriptions still list VB6 and classic ASP as requirements. This may be because they want people who can convert code from classic to .NET, but I'm not really sure.
Can anyone tell me what is the equivalent of WMP.CurrentPosition of WMP classic in the new WMP 11? I'm playing a file with WMP 11, and want to get the current time position live with a timer control.
I am receiving RS-232 data from serialPort1.Readbyte and want to display the incoming data on a textbox on a form. This causes a "...cross thread..." error.
I'm planning to create an application that counts the number of calls recieved based on the type of calls. For example: When a person gives a call an audio menu provides various options. If the person choose option 1 then the count value under option 1 will increment; If the person choose option 2 then the count value under option 2 is incremented, ect, ect, ect.
I'm working on a project which involves communications with a remote device via a modem. Communication is accomplished via HEX commands. However, with my code below, I am not receiving zeros where they are meant to be.For example, a test file contains the following HEX:
010203040506070809
However, I am only receiving this:
123456789
The zeros are critical.
Private Sub receive_data(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles SerialPort1.DataReceived Dim buff As String Dim i As Short
I want to create an application in VB.net that will read data outputted by a RFID reader on serial port.I want to know how will my application be able to identify the interrupt generated by Serial port and will read data from there?
I am having problem receiving data from serial port. Btw, I am new to Visual studio 2010 too.
I do a test program on my PIC so that when button1 press, it will send character "Y" to visual studio; when button2 press, it will send character "N" to visual studio. I know for VS 2010, sending data out is by the command
I am working on an assignment whereby i am requested to receive incoming messages via a gsm modem, i have tried to do so by writing at commands to the serial port where the gsm modem is connected to but there's one specific line which gives me error when i tried writing it to the serial port, (AT+CMGL= "ALL") which returns me an error: CMS ERROR: 305 which means Invalid Text mode parameter The following is the codes i have done up to so far, can anyone tell me what is the correct way to write this specific line to the serial port or is there any other methods that is able to do the same thing?[code]...
So I made a little program, and when I run it on my computer the Date format displays as DD/MM/YYYY, but when I run it on some other computers it displays as MM/DD/YYYY. Is there anyway to set the default incoming Date format? Or do I just have to be very careful about how I get/set parts of dates?
i'm looking for a solution in automating the following which we are currently doing manually each day:We are getting mails overnight from different clients with different subjects. lets call the subjects 'succes' and 'failed' for now.All we do is ad a new column ech day in an excel sheet, and set cells to green (succes) and red (failed). Each client has a row.I want to automate this process by VBA, as I think it's the best solution. The VBA should read the mail in a folder, and look at the subject and from address.
I am converting an existing classic ASP website to (VB) MVC and I don't want any of the existing URLs to break. I have read many posts (like this one: Routing Classic ASP Requests To .NET - SEO Redirects) about how to do the proper 301 redirect. With the latest MVC release, I've gathered that
Response.RedirectPermanent(objRedirect.new_url, True)is all that is needed.
I have entered all of my old URLs in a database table with a corresponding column of the new URL. I have added code in my custom 404 page to get the original URL:
Dim strURL As String = Request.RawUrl.Substring(Request.RawUrl.IndexOf("aspxerrorpath=") + 15).ToLower()
so I can look it up in the database. (Interesting sidenote, MSDN's documentation here - Redirect Mode - seems to say that if I set RedirectMode=ResponseRewrite in the CustomErrors section of my web.config, I won't have to worry about doing the above, but when I've tried that, I get IIS errors saying it won't serve an ASP page? The problem I am encountering is that any of my old, Classic ASP URLs that have the same directory as a new MVC route are somehow being partially routed. For example, "/test/default.asp" shows up as "/test/test" in the above strURL variable of my error page.
Is it possible to call a function in a VB.Net dll without having registered the dll file? I need to call it from ASP Classic on shared hosting web server.
