Oct 12, 2010I have a windows forms app (32 bit) written in VB2010 which occassionally hangs in windows when minimised to the task bar You click on the icon on the taskbar and it will not come back up on the screen
No other modal forms are open in the application when the hang occurs Other programs respond OK
I ran Process Explorer against when it was Hung but do not know how to interpret the stack page, or even if it is helpful STack page with my application selected and Threads tab selected with CSwitch Delta column sorted descending. Then double clicking the top entry (my application .exe)
Note: This is running on an x64 machine, but also hangs on x32 machines

My laptop (17 inch monitor) works fine also, however, on a 15 inch monitor the picturebox's are off and not where they were when I programmed it. Pass Current Web Credentials From Asp.net Web Application To Windows Client Application
Nov 20, 2011I'm developing a web application that requires the user to log in using forms authentication. inside the webpage you need to download a desktop application that requires to login to the same system too. Is there a way to transfer the current logged credentials from the web application to the windows desktop application without need to login again?. Both applications shares a Login object from an vb.net interface.I tried to save the IP address in the Database but that don't work for me because the website needs to be accessed inside and/or outside of the company and the user cannot login twice in different machines.

Oct 28, 2009I have developed 2-3 standalone windows application using VS2008(vb.net) + Sql server (2008,2005) and quite comfortable with stand alone windows application. Now i am trying to make a windows app which will share a server database on LAN. I googled alot about this but still no success. So i decided to make that as stand alone app and i just changes the connection string to use remote server database. Everything is working fine still. All the insert, update and delete query are same as stand alone n me not getting any problem while testing through one more remote client system. But while googling i heard abt "CONCURRENCY" control.So please guide me is anything wll b wrong in future wid my this application when i will deploy this to my users? What about locks and how can i implement this to my Insert, update and delete queries to control concurrency and maintain integrity ?Please guide me step by step becoz i m new be to client/server application.

When i run it on my PC it runs fine, But when i install the development on the clients PC i get a error that says that the powerpack is not ibstalled? Do i need to add some reference? Will this be solved if i complie the solution with VB 2010 because i see the powerpacks is part of 2010?

VS 2010 Program Hangs On Client Computers?
May 5, 2011I've created a multithreaded application that copies data from one directory to another, and I'm having trouble getting it to work properly on clients' computers. All computers running the software have Windows 7 and the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile installed, which is what I've compiled the program for. I have two threads: one does the actual copying, and the other updates the UI on the program. Whenever I run the program on my computer, even if I'm copying 45 GB, for example, it runs fine. However, if I run it on another computer, it will sometimes freeze the entire computer, so then I have to manually shut the computer down in order to use it again. I have been trying to find out why this occurs, but I cannot. Does anyone think he/she can provide me with some ideas as to why this happens and how I can prevent it from occurring?

Application That Has Multiple Front Ends Developed Using Windows Forms / WPF / ASP / Compact Framework Mobile Forms
Apr 9, 2010I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?

VS 2010 - Keeping Files / Folders Synchronized Across Multiple Client Computers
Aug 10, 2011(Currently using VB.NET 2010 Express) I'm trying to make a program, the main of which is file transfer. I'm trying to create a program that will keep files and folders synchronized across multiple client computers. I'm using a File system watcher to trigger events, and Using a simple System.Net.Sockets UDP client transfer (found via google) to transfer commands between it and itself on other computers.

By this method, I can rename, move, or delete files. I want to implement file transfer, so that whenever a new file is created, or updated, my program will automatically transfer the file to the other computers and update them there.

Aug 2, 2011I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?
