View 1 RepliesI am using Powerpacks from Microsoft. Especiallly the Printform routine. When i run it on my PC it runs fine, But when i install the development on the clients PC i get a error that says that the powerpack is not ibstalled? Do i need to add some reference? Will this be solved if i complie the solution with VB 2010 because i see the powerpacks is part of 2010?
What if i install the poerpack on the clients PC?
I've created a multithreaded application that copies data from one directory to another, and I'm having trouble getting it to work properly on clients' computers. All computers running the software have Windows 7 and the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile installed, which is what I've compiled the program for. I have two threads: one does the actual copying, and the other updates the UI on the program. Whenever I run the program on my computer, even if I'm copying 45 GB, for example, it runs fine. However, if I run it on another computer, it will sometimes freeze the entire computer, so then I have to manually shut the computer down in order to use it again. I have been trying to find out why this occurs, but I cannot. Does anyone think he/she can provide me with some ideas as to why this happens and how I can prevent it from occurring?

View 3 Replies(Currently using VB.NET 2010 Express) I'm trying to make a program, the main of which is file transfer. I'm trying to create a program that will keep files and folders synchronized across multiple client computers. I'm using a File system watcher to trigger events, and Using a simple System.Net.Sockets UDP client transfer (found via google) to transfer commands between it and itself on other computers.
Here's that code (this just sends from one textbox to another over the internet)
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Imports System.Net
Imports System.Text
Dim udpClient As New UdpClient(1024)
Dim RemoteIpEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 0)
[Code] .....
By this method, I can rename, move, or delete files. I want to implement file transfer, so that whenever a new file is created, or updated, my program will automatically transfer the file to the other computers and update them there.
I am looking for away to include a power point slide show inside a form in vb.net 2005. Office 2007 will be installe on all of the client machines which run the program. I have found ways to launch and control a power point slide show in an exteral window, but no way to attcah it and place it on the form window.
View 1 RepliesI am attempting to publish a project I have just finished on a DVD. The problem I have is a lot of the computers this project will land on, have no internet capability.
How then do I get things loaded on their computers such as "MS .Net Framework 4 Client Profile" and the Powerpack dll?
Am working a vb.net 2008 project using ms access database 2007 and i successfuly finished it. i published the project and burnt it with cd. my database path in vb.net was located c:Deploydatabase.accdb.
so i installed the program in to another 2 networking PCs. when i run them and put the database path c:Deploydatabase.accdb in every computer, its working. but the problem is that:
i need the database to be accessed by server or my machine for instance where every other networking computers are able to access my database in this location of my machine (my be as defualt) without not putting it to their pcs.
This enables me to see what every machines users can add information to the program.
for example, i have got 10 computers networked each other (i.e comp1, comp2, comp3, comp4, comp5, comp6, comp7, comp8, comp9, comp10). i have installed the program in every computers so when/if comp1 adds/edits informations to the program, then all other computers are capable of receiving this information which means comp4 can see what comp1 has entered in the program.
needs coding in vb6 to access personal computers processor id / sl number, hard disk id / serial number. The pc is running with xp operating system.
View 4 RepliesWe are creating a Who wants to be a millionaire style game in VB. Our server is pulling information such as questions and answers from a Access Database and sending them to the contestants (Clients). All transfer of information is directly from the server to each client. One of the "Life Lines" we want to use is "Ask a friend", where one client is able to Instant message another client for a short time to get help on the question.

View 8 RepliesI would like to ask some advise for the best thing to do regarding with this matter. Im working with a client-server application and I should run a pdf file from the server in the client application. The file name is the only saved in the database(MySql) and the full path is in the server. What technique should i used i order to access this file in the server., I planned to use the winsock. Im working in vb.net.

View 1 RepliesI am writing in VS2005 what, on the face if it, should be a relatively simple DLL, which will allow me to build a list of custom objects when called from within Excel 2007. To do this I have a Column and Columns class. As implied, Columns is a list of Column objects. The relevant classes are defined as follows:

I have a client/server program. There is a variable called readData that takes returndata and places it there. My question is, why can't I access this variable directly, for instance, varC = readData and then try to access a piece of it i.e. textbox1.text = varC(2), I get an error "object reference not set to instance of an object". Why is this happening? It is because the readData is a networking 'component'? How do I get around this? I can post more code from the server app if needed.

I would like to create a server program that accesses an "ms access" database. I will also need a client program that connects to the server. The reason for this is that the server is a mediator for several clients. Since I am using access, I plan on maybe having 20 or 30 clients connect to the server only. The client will have access to a virtual market. So when a person buys or sells something on the market, the server mediates the transaction and etc. At the same time, the access database saves each clients data as well as the overall market data.
View 1 RepliesI've made a simple knowledgebase program which contains example documents. The documents are stored in a folder, and in an accessdatabase stands the information about the documents. The program also includes a simple search option. The program itself is located in a folder on a network computer. It has to be a network program for collegues can add other examples. Now it gets weird. at least in my opinion. When I run the program locally -> no problem. When I run the program from another network PC -> no problem. But when I run the program from a network Thin Client -> shaboom..At least when I enter a search option and the connection to the database is opened:"Application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security pollcy. To grand this application the required permission, contact you system administrator or use the Microsoft .NET framework configuration tool."[code]Now I've found a LOT of topics in this forum and many others, and it's clear that apps from another network location are run without "full trust". And the trust issue can be handled with caspol or web.config. Although caspol is a mystery to me and web.config didn't seem to work. But since it's so explicitly crashing on Thin Clients.
View 6 RepliesI have a form with a list that shows information from a database. I want the list the update in run time (or almost real time) every time something changes in the database. These are the three ways I can think of to accomplish this:Set up a timer on the client to check every few seconds: I know how to do this now, but it would involve making and closing a new connection to the database hundreds of times an hour, regardless of whether there was any change Build something sort of like a TCP/IP chat server, and every time a program updates the database it would also send a message to the TCP/IP server, which in turn would send a message to the client's form: I have no idea how to do this right now Create a web service that returns the date and time of when the last time the table was changed, and the client would compare that time to the last time the client updated: I could figure out how to build a web service, but I don't how to do this without making a connection to the database anyway The second option doesn't seem like it would be very reliable, and the first seems like it would consume more resources than necessary. Is there some way to tell the client every time there is a change in the database without making a connection every few seconds, or is it not that big of a deal to make that many connections to a database?
View 3 RepliesI have been reading through Atheists posts in regards to client-server and TCP client/server connection's. But how do i go about writing a program with 1 client and server where the client side creates a text file.Once the server sees there is a text file it connects and downloads it to itself or the client pushes the text file to the server.Once on the server i will read the text file and put its info into a sql db.
View 14 RepliesI have an application that takes a series of reports and sends them as attachments in an email to a specified group of email accounts.
When I run the Java version of this using apache commons and the same setting, the email is sent. However, when I run the VB.NET version of the code, it fails on my local machine and on the client machine.
I have a VB.NET web application running on a server that uses similar code. I tried that code locally and it fails. Yet, the web application is working perfectly.
Why is it that the Java application can send the email, but the .NET application cannot?[code]....
Im using the code from [URL] as a starter, most of the code is the same. the chat system works fine but on the client a added a disconnect button "clientSocket.Close()" and as soon as i click that i get errors, on the client, this is the code...
Private Sub getMessage()
For infiniteCounter = 1 To 2
[CODE]...
And this line...
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize)
gives me "Unable to read data from the transport connection: A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall."
Now im talking the server, after the client clicks disconnect or closes by task manager, looses connection, etc the server crashes and gives me.
I am getting the below error when I click a row in the grid. But this error is raised only in exe, which is installed in client machine, but when I check the same from source code in my machine, i am not getting this error. I am able to locate the record.

I develop an application using vb.net.application will run on client server architecture.when we try to execute the program in client side then it will give me an error which is related to sqlclientexception.how can i handle this situation.i used vb.net 3.5 as front end and sql server 2000 as back end.i have done total coding with system.data.sqlclient namespace.

this is probably easier than I think it is.I would like a client-to-client messenging system without using Winsock if possible. At the moment an IP based connection system would be okay.
View 8 RepliesCan't find any free ones so thought I would work on one on my own for the heck of the learning experience with TCP stuff.I'm about ready to start on the messaging aspect of it.The biggest thing I'm wondering about is figuring out when people are online.I'm not too sure how the whole thing works.Say I turn on my messenger. Would my messenger just send a message to all IPs on a certain port to say I'm online and then wait for a message back from the IPs that can return messages and then figure out who is online that way?
