C# :: Does One Still Write Tests With TDD When The Desired Code Has Little To No Logic
Feb 10, 2011TDD is supposed to have 100% code coverage. Does this mean one is supposed to write tests for property getter and setters, and other methods that contain no real logic, such as dealing with external API functionality? Below is one example method (which happens to also be the example in this other SO question which deals with how best to test it, if we are going to test it). This method doesn't do much. It's a facade of theSystem.ServiceProcess.ServiceController functionality of stopping a service. Currently this code was not being written using TDD, but if it was, would it be something that one should test? Report The Status Of Multiple Tests To The User?
Jul 31, 2009I want to report the status of multiple tests to the user like this:
Test1 PASS
Test2 PASS
Test3 FAIL
where the PASS should be green and the FAIL should be red. The number of tests is not known at design time, so I can't make N rows of labels and set their properties at run time. If I put all of that text in a single label, is there a way I can turn some of the words green and some of them red?
Get Spaces In Single Line Multi Answer Cout Display?
Sep 6, 2009I am still learning VB and operating VB 2005 for school. Challenging issue recently arose and would like advice from someone smarter than I .... When writing code to query several elements from a user,such as: Street number, street name, city, state, zip ... all posed as individual response questions. I want the ultimate displayed answer to show in a single line. When I write to code for that, I get the response in a single line, but they are all jammed together in the cout result screen display, with no spaces between answers (e.g. 2118Winona AveMontgomeryAlabama36102). I want a blank space to display between elements (e.g. 2118 Winona Ave Montgomery Alabama 36102). How do I cause the result line to include spaces?

Dec 22, 2010I wish to turn on the Single Instance Application choice in Visual Studio 2008 properties. To do so, I must choose "Enable Application Framework". When I do that, my ONLY choice is to choose a Startup Form, not a Startup object. This makes no sense to me. I have a tray application, and I check to see which form I should load, a logon form, or the main form. But since I am forced to choose a startup form, I MUST load the logon or main form to begin with. But I don't want to. I want startup code to determine which one to load first. So then I am playing with making the OTHER form invisible, even if the startup form, but that is a mess.

May 10, 2009I need a multiple choice quiz but I've ran into some problems. So far i have 5 arrays: one for the questions and four for the answers. The question is displayed in a label and the answers on radio buttons. Problem one: I am using a random number generator to pull them but this allows them to be reused. How do I stop repeats. Problem two, my grading isn't always working.

Nov 3, 2011I am in the process of creating an array for a set of multiple choice questions but I am having a few problems. I am an absolute beginner at VB and I am creating a quiz that users will select one of three possible questions and then depending on their answer a +1 value will be added to the score. However I do not know where my questions and answers are supposed to go, from what I have read online I have to use (0, 1) format to give possible answers but I do not know how I would make the questions and answers display in textboxes on my form. At the bottom of my code I have also included code to randomise the questions although I am unsure as to if it is correct. At the moment I can run my form fine without any problems but my main issue is to how I will get the questions and answers linked to my textboxes on my form.

Nov 22, 2011I am working on a multiple choice quiz, admin screen, student login screen where they choose their level of difficulty. I have been able to start the quiz, have the questions and answers filled, user answers question, check if correct or not, if correct then the score is incremented.I am able to set up a variable for 'level' and want to write some code so that whatever is selected then that table / questions will be selected and displayed to the user.
The way I'm thinking at the moment seems very long winded. I think I'll have to write an IF ELSE statement/case statement for each of the 'navigaterecords' and the sql statment for beginners, intermediate and advanced.Assume there is a variable 'LEVEL' - have not actually done this yet. Where the code refers to 'advanced' is where I have been trying it out to select questions from the advanced table.

Multiple Choice Quiz With Access, Null Reference?
Jul 16, 2009I have a button 'start quiz' which uses the dataset to fill the quiz form - ready for the user to start answering the questions.However, I am getting a 'null reference' at the point where the 'navigate records' on the quiz form is called. Have looked up that it means I have a variable that is null. But I have declared all the variables etc. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I am very new to programming and I have spent quite a bit of time on this already.This is the code for the student user login:

VS 2010 : Roadblock With Simple Multiple Choice Form?
Apr 3, 2012I am trying to create a simple program that delivers True/False questions from a text file and then displays the mark to the student, but I'm running into trouble.I created two forms. The first contains a listbox which is populated with the possible test choices (taken from a .txt file containing only 2 choices). I wrote this code for the listbox

After the test is chosen, the user presses BEGIN. At this point I have my actual Question form pop up, and the first form is hidden. I tried to begin with an If-Then statement which will open the appropriate .txt based on the selection from the first form.

This is where I get completely bottle necked though. I've been staring at the screen/textbook for 5 hours now and I don't understand how to write the code that will take my questions from the (now open) text file, separate the question from the answer, and put the question and question number in the appropriate text boxes. The format of the question .txt's are simple. One question per line, with the answer following, separated by a comma. For example, Midterm.txt might look like this

If I were to design a form for this problem let's say it would look like this:I am currently stuck at this part though. How do I populate the two read-only text boxes with the question number/question, and then cycle through the questions from the .txt while also keeping the user's score?

Apr 2, 2011I'm really new at programming and was looking for guidance about a project I have.I have to design a program that administers a multiple choice test to users. It delivers questions one at a time, from a predefined test file for the user to answer. It also marks and displays a score at the end of the test.
First, a QUESTION form verify's the user's registration status and access. The user provides a registration number and password and the program reads it from a "registration.txt" file to determine if the user is eligible to take the test (i.e., they are registered to take it). If it is correct, then the user presses the "Begin" button. If not, then a message appears and the student tries again to enter the information.
A read only text box will display the score at the end of the test (String with format correct/total) and the user can't retake the test.Second, a QUESTION form opens after clicking "Begin" on the entry form. The questions are going to be from a "testfile.txt" file.Each question is on multiple lines in the file. The first line consists of the question followed by possible answers followed by the correct answer ( 3 items are separated by "#"). The current question number and the question will be displayed in textboxes.'n'= possible answers; so each of the next 'n' lines provides a possible answer. All possible answers will be displayed in a Listbox.After the user selects an answer, an ''Enter'' button is pressed. This will submit and evaluate the answer. If nothing is selected a textbox should appear and display the error message (APPEARS ONLY IF THERE IS AN ERROR). After pressing ''Enter'', the next question is displayed.When all questions answered, the entry form is displayed again and displays the score.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted it to be really clear. Would it be best to cycle/loop the questions with a DoWhile loop? And how would I store the answers while the user goes through the test?

Write All Actions's Latencies To A Single File From All Objects?
Feb 3, 2011I have a really modular application in which modules interact with each other for many, many tasks. Lately I have been making some changes to fix some bugs and some processes are now taking longer (not making the application unusable though).I now want to log the times it takes to perform each action, also taking into account interactions with other objects, to identify where is it taking long. This logging code would most likely be temporary. So, the question is: How can I write all these actions's latencies (or timeStarted and TimeEnded perhaps) to a single file from all the objects?

I am wanting to write an application that performs common systems tasks from a single location. Just simple things like deleting text files, maybe displaying drive space, etc. In order to even begin to do this I have to understand more about the my.computer class in VB. Does anyone have some good info that breaks this class (and possibly related classes) down hierarchically? MSDN offers a lot of info but doesn't really give a lot in the way of explaining how certain classes are interrelated.

Sep 27, 2010Is it possible to have a single class reside within two name-spaces and how can I do this?
To clarify: We have a class library (let say root namespace is classLib1), which has grown over time (more classes) and I want to logically group classes into different namespaces. However some of the older classes need to be grouped into these new namespaces (e.g classLib1.section1) and doing so will break legacy code in other assemblys that use this class library. So I want to be able to refer to a class using both name-spaces until we can phase the old ones out.
I can't find any information on this, which suggests there is a reason that people would not want to do this!?!
C# - Using A Single DataSource On Multiple .NET Forms

After binding controls to tables and fields on both forms, I noticed each form has it's own apparently duplicate DataSet. Is it standard practice for each form to have its own DataSet even though they use the same ConnectionString and connect to the same database at the same time?

Apr 19, 2008I originally developed a simple application software [VB.Net + MS Access] (Lets call this project A) but now I want to include more functionality in it. I have an encryption/ decryption software utility (Lets call this project B ) and a Text to speech generation utility(Lets call this project C) . That is, I want to add Projects B and C to project A. [Such that clicking on the main form of project A calls a form from project B or C as desired].In solution explorer, I right clicked--Add Existing Project--and added both the above mentioned projects 1 by 1. (Added B and C to the solution explorer with the already present A).As the application software's (Project A's) main form is the main form of my project, I want to have a menu option on the main form (Of Project A) so that a user could click on one of the menu options and the main form of my other projects ( Project B or Project C or Encrypt/Decrypt or Voice Generation) should open by him doing so. To this effect, I tried the following:
1. I dragged the form simply from one of the projects (From B or C ) into the folder of my Application Software (Project A).This generated a lot of Build errors and the Voice Generation utility (Prj. C) would not work like this.
2. Tried to reference a dll, however the authors of Projects B and C did not include a dll in their projects.
3. Now I came to know that to call a form residing in another project folder or even another folder within the same project, you have to give a path for the form. HOW DO WE DO THIS?

How To Combine Multiple Matrices Into A Single One
Jan 12, 2011I am trying to understand transformation matrices (not just their implementation in VB, but in general) and I've put about 3 full days into this so far. I believe I have the data in my matrices correct. Applying any single matrix to an array of points does a correct transformation.I am wondering if I understand how to combine multiple matrices into a single one.I understand you just have to multiply them together.I took this to mean you just have to multiply each element with its corresponding element in the second to make a third matrix?[code]
