C# :: Does One Still Write Tests With TDD When The Desired Code Has Little To No Logic

Feb 10, 2011

TDD is supposed to have 100% code coverage. Does this mean one is supposed to write tests for property getter and setters, and other methods that contain no real logic, such as dealing with external API functionality? Below is one example method (which happens to also be the example in this other SO question which deals with how best to test it, if we are going to test it). This method doesn't do much. It's a facade of theSystem.ServiceProcess.ServiceController functionality of stopping a service. Currently this code was not being written using TDD, but if it was, would it be something that one should test? There is very little logic here.est to test it (IoC & Adapter Pattern vs. Detouring) please see this other SO question.

Re-write Conditional Logic That Involves Checking Three Nullable(Of T) Values In An Equality Operator Overload?

Jan 28, 2011

So I'm writing the equality operator overload (Operator =())for a custom object, and the resulting mess of If conditionals is just an eyesore. But so far, it seems like the only sane way to check the values to as to match the specific behavior of this object.

The rules are:Num1 is required, period, and both the left and right operands and must be equal for True. Else, False.Num2 is optional, but if specified, must be present for both the left and right operands, and must be equal for True. Else, False.Num3 is optional, but can only be specified if Num2 is also present. Else, False.Num3, if specified, must be present for both the left and right operands, and must be equal for True. Else, False.

[Code]..

I also know that I could cache elements of the checks into booleans and then use those to reduce the amount of text. But that seems like a waste of cycles just for code readability. So I wanted to know if the SO community had better thoughts on reorganizing it, just in case I'm being too verbose with my checks.

VB Code Behind The Business Logic Layer?

Oct 1, 2010

I also went though the whole "ASP.Net in 24 Hours" book by Scott Mictchell. I followed everything that went on in that book and built the final project successfully. I also used the tutorials here to better understand the whole Membership Provider/User tables setup that was going on in the book. Next, I thought I would learn more about accessing data for ASP.Net since that is what most application do.I went through the first Data Tutorial here. I seemed to understand what was going on just fine. The second Data Tutorial seemed to just show a lot of VB code to build the Business Logic Layer. There was not much explanation about how to do it yourself.I think I can keep going in the tutorials here. I downloaded the code from the second tutorial and went through it.I am guessing that the code in the second tutorial was given just to proceed with the overall project that is being built throughout the tutorial sequence.

Gradually Transition To NHibernate Persistence Logic From Existing ADO.NET Persistence Logic?

Sep 3, 2010

The application uses ADO.NET to invoke sprocs for nearly every database operation. Some of these sprocs also contain a fair amount of domain logic. The data access logic for each domain entity resides in the domain class itself. ie, there is no decoupling between domain logic and data access logic. I'm looking to accomplish the following:

Asp.net - IE8 Accelerator Feature Allows Cheating In Our Tests?

Mar 30, 2011

In my company, we make software which we use to test certain skills and intelligence factors of people. Some of those tests are time bound. On the test page, there is an asp control that shows the time remaining. When you right click that control, the javascript that provides the time is interrupted. To solve that, we disabled right-clicking. But now i've noticed that if you do a selection of some text and click the IE8 accelerator blue button, the javascript is also interrupted. Disabling the left-click if of course no option.

I've found an option in IE that disables the accelerator, so for us internally, the issue is solved. But we would like to find another solution, just because we cannot ask every one of our customers to go disable that option on all their computers.

App To Start In Desired Folder

Aug 9, 2010

I'm completely new to Visual Basic, so please be 'gentle' with me.I came up with an idea of a simple app (apps), which is almost done. I'm using Visual Basic Studio Express 2010.What I want to do is (well partially done already):One app (Windows Forms Application) launches another app. I'm using Shell command to start the other one.The other one is located on a network drive, but opens fine. The problem is that the another one (the second one) supposed to start a BATCH file (*.bat) in the same folder where the app is located, but it seems to be running in the same folder where the first app is located. In other words. App1 is C:my appmyprogram1.exe it starts App2 which is on a network drive, i.e.\mynetworkmynetwork foldermy program2.exe. Then 'myprogram2.exe' starts (suppose to) a batch file in the same folder \mynetworkmynetworkfolder, but instead it is trying to look for it in C:myapp . How do I tell the program2.exe to search for the batch file in the same folder where its located?

Webbrowser Not Navigating To Desired URL?

May 10, 2012

I'm automating a download, and I know the URL to the download page. Well, not exactly. This URL is indeed what I need to use, but the website redirects it to the REAL download page. Unfortunately the redirect only happens if I do an exit sub. That is to say, if I do a loop sleeping one second per iteration, the loop goes on forever waiting for the redirect. But if I branch out of the loop by inserting an Exit Sub in break mode, I can see the redirect occur onscreen. (I can watch the current page in the web browser transition to the desired download page). The trouble of course is that I don't WANT to do an Exit Sub at that point, so what's the solution? Do I need to call Browser.Navigate on a background thread?

How To Force Webbrowser1 To Go To Desired Page

Nov 20, 2011

I want to use webbrowser to go to a web site. This web site has three possible screens that I can get when I try to visit:

(1) A fresh login page, where it does not seem to know me and asks my name and password

(2) The main page of the site, with me logged in from my last visit

(3) A screen that says something like: "Thanks for visiting and logging out. click here to log back in."

I want to make it so that the webbrowser 1 ALWAYS is able to get to the first kind of page. When I have webbrowser1 navigate to the specified URL I want it to *not* be redirected to already being logged in from last time and to *not* be redirected to the third kind of page.

I am trying to make a program so that it goes to the site, enters my username and password, and clicks the "login" button. This is getting messed up because it does not always go to the first kind of page, and, actually, most often redirects to the second or third screens, to my aggravation!

Is there some command I can use with webbrowser and my visual basic 10 program to make it so the webbrowser is NOT redirected without me wanting it to be, so that it always goes into the "fresh" login page?

.net - NUnit Tests For Testing Class-level PrincipalPermissionAttribute Demands

Mar 1, 2012

I'm working with .NET 3.5 and Nunit 2.5.10. I'm attempting to write some tests to validate our role-based security enforcement through the PrincipalPermissionAttribute at a class-level. The test appears to succeed (it gets a green checkmark) and the Assert.Throws call properly catches the exception, and all my other assertions about the exception pass. However, once TearDown is complete after a test has run, the exception is re-thrown by NUnit. So even though the test "passed", every one of the tests shows that an exception was unhandled exception was thrown 'while executing' the test run.

I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure it out. My test is:

Public Sub New_TheForm_NoRoles_DeniesAccess()
' attempt to create a new instance of the form, but it should throw an exception with an inner SecurityException
Dim ex As TypeInitializationException = Assert.Throws(Of

[Code]....

Basically, Initialize is normally called in the application with Nothing so that we use the Windows Principal. During unit testing, we instead initialize it with a GenericPrincipal that has no roles, so that we can test that a SecurityException is thrown.

The tests are passing, but NUnit just seems to be re-throwing the exception post-Teardown.
