In other words, from within my class I want full access and from my form I only want read access. Right now I declare my variable as either Private or Public to control Public read/write access. I tried googling my question a bit but I'm not sure what the correct terms even ar
View 5 RepliesI am using the code shown below to compare two Access databases with two fields each and write the results to a third Access database. I am getting an error at the "Do While DMReader02.Read = True" line: "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." Why would the reader be closed at this point if I am using different DataReaders in the two loops?

I am using VB2005. I am trying to write to an Access database seperate from the data's origin. AKA: I need to run a query getting data from one Access table and write it to a table in another Access database.
Overview: I need to get data from one Access table and two Excel worksheets. I need to write the data to an Access database so I can run a query combining the three into one table. I will then use the table to create reports.
I have googled, checked multiple sites, and checked MSDN. The only thing I have been able to find is populating a datatable and writing changes back to the database. This was SO easy in VB6.
Is it possible to write to an access database that is an MDE, from a .net application?

View 1 RepliesTypical problem, but I've done everything I can possibly think of to get this to work. I set the NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET accounts to FULL CONTROL on my PC. I'm using the built-in Cassini web server to test my application, with no luck. I even tried to make a folder outside of the APP_DATA folder, and is still says Access is Denied.

I'm developing a app in VB 2005 to connect to a Access 2003/2007 DB, I manage to connect to it but I can't write to it, do I have to enable something to make it work?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to get my application to read to and write from an Access database. I am running Windows 7 x64.

So I have a database in Microsoft Access (its path is c:database.mdb). There are two tables. Table1 and Table2. I would like to read each row of Table1 to an array, and write a row to Table2.
I have looked all over google, but I couldn't find anything that worked.
I want to do the following in Vb.NET 2005 windows form
1. saving Ms-office documents in Access 97 using VB.NET
2. Opening the saved document in Access 97 using VB.NET and show to user after user clicking a link correspoding to the record
3. After user modified the document/xls file, it should once again save into Access 97 database.[URL]..This document explains how to open and save a document from BLOG fields.But without physically saving the document into local hard disk, is it possible to open in OLE control? and after modifing saving back to Access 97 database.
I've looked for code on this, and it seems needlessly confusing to me. I've tried some code I found and it doesn't return the proper value (I can't find the link to it now). So, I'm attempting to avoid that which I do not understand by writing a function that creates then deletes a file:
Friend Function GetFolderAccess(ByVal sDirectory As String) As Boolean
Try
Dim fs As New FileStream(sDirectory & " estfile.test", FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.ReadWrite)
Dim s As New StreamWriter(fs)
[code]....
Through testing, this appears to work for both read and write access. I originally had a File.Exists before the File.Delete, but the function would sometimes return True when it should have returned False.
Im trying to write to a file I created and place "Unregistered" in it. Thought it would be a simple task but keep getting an error. Its happening when I try and open the file to write. This is the error: Access to the path 'G:\Projects\Project\pbss\bin\Debug\5\pbssv\Data.DB' is denied.
Ive tried adding the file attributes to read-write and still get the same. Most of the code ive looked at via a google search points to the same as ive got for the Added default value area. Im not sure if there is a conflict between the 2 different ways im accessing the file when creating and writing too? [Code]
1. I have to create a file. 2. Then I want to write a string into the text file.
I can do part 1 no problem with: File.Create(strFilePath) But when I try part 2 to write to the file it won't allow this as it's still being used:
sw = File.AppendText(strFileName)
sw.WriteLine(strCode)
sw.Flush()
sw.Close()
My code in part 2 works fine on a file that hasn't just been created.
How do I release the file from the File object?
There doesn't seem to be a .close or .flush option.
I am creating a file and then trying to read and write to it. I'm coming up with an UnauthorizedAccessException wa unhandled. My question is, How do I get around this properly or otherwise improperly to read and write to my text file?
