Writing Data To A New XML File?

Jun 13, 2011

I am working on a program for work and I am stuck on trying to make a new XML file from VB.NET 2010. I have the old code which was done in C# and it works but even using a C# to VB converter didn't help. I will paste in both the C# and what I have in VB

private void webBrowser1_Navigating(object sender,
WebBrowserNavigatingEventArgs e)

It is supposed to not only create the file but launch a program called PowerScribe and find the case in the Field 6 section.

Reading And Writing Data To A Text File?

Sep 28, 2009

The program that I am writing has three default variables that I would like it to store and also be able to change. I have them in a text file called "settings.txt" The format of the text file is as follows:

Default Source "I:DCIM101MSDCF"
Default Destination "C:Documents and SettingsChristyMy DocumentsMy Pictures"
Default Backup Destination "D:My DocumentsBackupMy Pictures"

The field descriptions eg "Default Source" take up 30 characters, so the variable data starts with character 30. I know their has to be an easy way just to pull out the data from a particular line starting with character 30 but I can't find it.

Writing Data To Access Database File?

I use Visual Basic in Access, and I have no problem writing data directly to a cell in a database table. But I can not figure out how to write the code for Visual Basic 2008. For example I would
use Me![cust_Cost] = 20 to input 20 in the database table.
I have purchased two different Books on Visual Basic 2008 and not one of them show how to input data manually.

Writing Data To An Existing Excel File?

Mar 15, 2010

I'm working on a project where I have to allow users to write data to an existing Excel worksheet (by entering the data into a form created in Visual Basic.NET). I've created a form that allows users to enter data such as the following:

Name (First, Last)
Mailing Address
Email Address
Gender
Age

...and so on. I've programmed the data to be sent to the Excel file upon clicking on the Submit button in the form itself. I've also created the Excel file and placed it on my C: drive, but the problem I'm having is trying to send the data from the VB form to the Excel file itself. Can someone please show me some sample code or point me in the right direction as to how to get the submitted information from the form to save into the Excel file, please?

I'm trying to get the information to show up in rows and columns in Excel like the following below (the dashes are just to show that the information should be in rows and columns):

Name--------------------------Mailing Address-------Email Address-------Gender-------Age
John Doe---------------------2300 Jackson Street-------- xxx@xxxx.com-------Male---------17

File I/O And Registry :: Writing Data To File?

for a school project I have to write data from a listbox to a new file that a user can create. I can create and save a file no problem, but for some reason I can't write anything. I followed the textbook provided but when the file saves, I open it up and it is blank. I'm using fileWriter.WriteLine and I'm just test something basic to write to a file first and I can't do it:

Code:
Private Sub storeFileButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles storeFileButton.Click
'creates a new file
Dim result As DialogResult ' stores the file
Dim fileName As String ' name the file to save the data

Forms :: Writing Data From A DataGridView To A Text File?

Feb 17, 2010

I have been using this code, see below, to try and write data from the DataGridView to a text file. It works but it puts an extra comma after each line and thinks that there has been another line so puts an extra 4 commas on a new line. So the text file looks like this:

9,Here to There,1,15,
8,Hell to Heaven,16,34,

I'm looking for any help for a way to get rid of the extra commas or an entirely different way of doing this whole process.

Reading And Writing Text File Data With Arrays?

May 3, 2009

Even a primer on just reading/writing to a text file would be golden. The array confuses me further, but understanding the data is primary.

Basically, we're writing a program to manage inventory for a bar. Fields and a few lines are below. The delimiter is "||"

So... How do we read the data into the arrays? NAME would be strName(), etc for all of them.

how to write and update existing data.

UID||BREWERY||NAME||SIZE||FORMAT||SEASONAL||PRICE||CASECOST||CASEQTY||BREWERYLOCATION||BREWSTYLE||ST YLE||ABV||CLASS

File I/O And Registry :: Analyzing Contents And Writing Manipulated Data

Jul 25, 2009

I am basically reading a text file with info like this:

And I'm trying to write a program that read the data, filters the sections so that per line it does the bit before the brackets i.e. "S1" then a comma then the sections inside the brackets as comma separated values removing the double quotes and symbols I don't want etc. Basically dividing the separate S*'s onto different lines and separating the values with comma's. There are also other points which are a different letter than "'S" and the same to do with them to.

Writing Array Of File Names To Text File

Mar 11, 2010

I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.

Here is my code:
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strPath)
Dim dir1 As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.txt")
Dim dFiles As IO.FileInfo
ListBox.Items.Add(dFiles)

However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.

Writing File/Folder Sync Prog, Result Text Boxes Not Updating Untill After All File Action Is Done Even Though Update Code Comes Before Copy?

Apr 12, 2011

I am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for
creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.

So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.
