I am trying to make a record counter for a textbox i have on my form. Basically i have an Access database called Member and wish too count how many records there are in the database and insert the figure into the textbox called MemberID. I am doing this to stop duplication in my form. I am doing it on the MemberID which is a Primary Key and not an autonumber
vb.net
Public Class frmMember
[code]......
Suppose I want to show a counter in a textbox w/a slight delay (for loop) after the form is loaded. I tried code below and it just shows the last #10.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Shown(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Shown
[Code]......
I realize I could use a timer or sleep function but I'm trying to understand why this doesn't and/or shouldn't work.
How to make my counter work. I keep feeling like I'm putting it, or maybe just part of it, in the wrong place so I've been moving it all over the place but haven't found anything that works yet. I'll paste my code below and it will be the code that seems to not stop when it reaches the end of my counter. Other ways I've tried it make it stop after one or two, depending on what I did to the code at them time.
Here's what I have at the moment:
Public Class mainForm
Dim guessCounter As Integer
Dim correctAccumulator As Integer
Dim totalAccumulator As Integer
Dim answer As Integer
[Code] ......
how to make a Click counter, every time i clik a button on a form, the label that show a counter will increase.

I want to make several linklabels for some links I have in a DB. I want the program make a new linklabel for each link automatically.I thought of something like this:
static counter as integer
Static point As Point

im trying to make a program in which if the textbox text and the listbox text are the same order, which they are in the picture, a bluie fonted text saying well done appears. However only the red text appears which is only meant to come when the order of the text in both listbox and textbox isnt the same.
Here is the code that i used for this:
listarrays = name of listbox
textbox1 = name of textbox
l is the name of the label for correct answer(blue font)label3 is name of label with red font which should only appear for wrong answer
Dim text As String = Me.TextBox1.Text
For Each item As Object In listarrays.Items
If item.ToString = Me.TextBox1.Text Then
[code].....
use another textbox instead of the listbox but thats just making itmuch harder for me as I already made the full code working with the listbox. My lecturer told me i need to convert both in string so both textbox and listbox are compatible and i did so (see code above) but the correct label doesn't show?
How can i make a textbox so like when a button is pressed how can i make the textbox select a random text and put it in its text box.

View 2 RepliesI'm nearly finished building a Black Jack game for college I've just got one small problem that I need some help with. It's probably just something really basic that I'm missing, but I've not been using VB for a very long time.The problem is with counting up the results after each game. I can get the counter to work and displays the results in a text box like so...
dealerCount = dealerCount + 1
txtDealer2.Text = dealerCount
This works fine but I also need an Overall total which holds the overall score and saves it each time the game is loaded. But when I added...
overallDealer = dealerCount
overallDealer = overallDealer + dealerCount
overallDealer = My.Settings.dealerOverall
txtDealOver.Text = overallDealer.ToString
It seems to keep the counter at 1 and it wont add up. Am I missing something real simple?
On my program i am trying to make a text box's text all caps. An example of this is when you type in a product key to activate Microsoft Office and all the letters are in caps, that is what I need.
View 5 RepliesI have a textbox on a form which I load the contents of a text file into. The values for some of the properties are as follows:
Readonly = false
Wordwrap = false
Multiline = true
Scrollbars = Vertical
When the scrollbars is set to vertical, then I am able to make any changes to the text inside of the textbox, deleting, typing in new text, cutting and pasting, etc. However if the scrollbars is set to both, then the only thing I am able to do is delete the text. It does not allow me to type any text into the textbox. All the other settings are the same as before. How would I make the text region editable with scrollbars set to both?
I have this code sample from a book I'm reading which looks to be incorrect:
Imports System.Diagnostics
Sub Main
Dim pc As New PerformanceCounter("PerfApp", "Clicks", False) 'excepiton here
pc.Increment()
counterLabel.Content = pc.NextValue().ToString()
End Sub
There excepion message I get is: The requested Performance Counter is not a custom counter, it has to be initialized as ReadOnly. I looked for a property to see if I can set it but couldn't find one.

Hi, I'm working on a program that reads text entered into a textbox and creates a list of items by separating entries by commas. Everything is working fine, except, because I am using an array to store the items in the list, I have a limited number of entries. This is only a problem because, as it is written currently, each comma counts as an individual entry. Therefore, users can enter ",,," for example, and it would use up 3 places in the array.
I'm looking for a way to check to make sure there is text after the comma before adding an entry. I've attempted to use the .substring command to check the character after, which works until it gets to the last character. Because there is no character after that, it will give an error.
Here is my code for extra clarity:
Public Class frmMain
Dim intCounter As Integer 'Stores the # of commas in the string
Dim Messages(49) As MessageProperties
[code]...
LblPPG.Text = Val(TextBoxPP.Text) / (TextBoxQTY.Text)
This is the only way I know how to obtain the info I need for this equation but if generated again with no input from the textboxes I get an error. Is there anyway to bypass this if its generated a second time with no inputs?
I have been searching for the past hour to try and find a solution, but I have been unsuccessful. Also, I use VB 2008, so the Common Dialog Suggestion would not work.

Ok, the title is maybe not so good, but I hope it's okay.. What I wanted to do was to make a very easy "respond machine" also called an AI. I tryed out with this code.
If TextBox1.Text = "Hello" Then
Label1.Text = "Hello"
End If
But if you for example write "Hello :-)" then it doesn't respond.. How can I fix that problem? Maybe some code like this?
is it possible in design mode to set the textbox text property to the text property of a textbox in a different form in vb.net?
