Make An Auto-save Function To Save Text In A Textbox?
Jun 18, 2009I have been searching for the past hour to try and find a solution, but I have been unsuccessful. Also, I use VB 2008, so the Common Dialog Suggestion would not work.

I want to make a save button to save to a new text file with the data in the text box if modified. Currently the program just opens Data.txt and displays a sentence in the text box.

Currently i write data to a listview, when the user has finished it is written out to excel.I would like to include a auto save that will have a option to set the auto save time frequency. (10min, 20 mins, etc)I tried auto saving to excel but it freezes the app whilst doing this.What would be my best alternative to auto save the data and reload it back into the listview so it can be written to excel.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to save every time the user updates a textbox on the form? My reasoning for this is I don't want to lose all information typed into the form if they were to click on the "x" to close the form. I want the form to update whenever they type so if they forget to press a "save" button (or better yet not use a save button) the data won't be lost. I can use a textbox change event handler and code to update my dataset on every textbox in the form but it seems tedious.

I am writing a program that involves the split Function. The user will enter A, B, C. I wrote a splic fuction code (below). I am not quite sure if it is right, I would also like to know how to write the code for that split function when the user preses the save button after entering there input.
Dim strInput As String 'input string
Dim strOutput() As Sting 'output string array
strInput = "A, B, C," 'user input
strOutput = Split(strInput, ",") 'splits the input string
I have AutoDragDrop enabled in my textbox. It drags the .jpg file into my program successfully. When I save it only saves the text not the .jpg file. I do realize that when I save the file I need to have the .jpg saved also and I am not sure how to accomplish this. I have checked multiple forums and googled of course. No luck as of yet.

so i have a quite huge program. but lets say i have one label. and i want to save that. i have the code and everything for saving the text of the label. now i want to assign ctrl+s to automatically save the labels text once pressed instead of going through a menu to choose save.this is like a regular texteditor where u press ctrl+s and it saves.
ive used this
If (e.KeyCode = e.Control & Keys.S) Then
MessageBox.Show("Ctrl+S pressed")
End If
and
[code]....
but it doesn't do anything once pressed.im also using the keydown declaration for the form.

View 4 RepliesWhat is the easiest way to save txtbox text to .txt file? Ofc I also need to choose the folder Im saving the text file. And it is possible to save that text file "to that program" ? I mean if I wrote textfile and click a button (to save text) and restard whole application can the text be saved somehow? If this is impossible (or too hard for me^^) I also need help with loading that saved text file: By clicking button it will open that txt file I saved before.And then (In my opinion) the harder one: If I need to save more than a textbox text.. In my current program it would be good to save (by clicking button) at least labels' texts, numericUpDowns, checxboxs, etc (the data that user had given) from just one form. Not to save whole program, one form is enough. So how this? That file doesnt need to be able to read by another program (like word, excel, etc). And again, the same vice verca. I also need a button which opens that saved file. (And now my english skills came to end)but this button click must also "place the values".For example if I have clicked checkboxs 1, 2 and 4 -> saved file -> opened -> it must show those checkboxes as checked. The same with everything else too (labels, numerics..)
View 8 RepliesI am trying to save multiple text files using a save dialog.
I can save one textbox
SaveFileDialog1.ShowDialog()
Dim File As System.IO.File
Dim Write As System.IO.StreamWriter
Write = File.CreateText(SaveFileDialog1.FileName)
Write.WriteLine(TextBox1.Text)
Write.Close()
but I don't know how to save multiple textboxes and richtext boxes. Would I have to use a screenwriter for this?
I forgot VS 2008 I can add a textbox text to the listbox and save it to IO.File.AppendText (Application.StartupPath & "List.txt")but i cant get it to add with a openfiledialog , now the listbox allready hase text loaded in it , iam trying to add too it with openfiledialog

I have the code I need to save the contents of a text box to a text file using the WriteAllText command, and I can view the text file contents using the StreamReader command.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to saving the contents of a TextBox into a html template?
I'd like to have the html file with formatting (H1, H2, table, tr, td etc.) already embedded in the head tags - this I can do already, and will save this html file as the template that the data will be added to.
I will be scanning the computer for system information - OS, Make, model etc and want to have this added to the template in the table layout.
I have text in a textbox that I want to write to a file. I'm trying to think of the best way to do this. Would reading the text into a buffer, then writing the buffer to a file be the best approach? I'm sure there's more than one way of doing this and I wanted to see if anyone had any input on the most efficient way.
