Is there a code for accessing the last two characters that the user places into a text box? Meaning, if the last two digits are not PM or AM, a message box should show saying that it is not a date (just for an example).Bgeo99

How do I enable a user to set the number of decimal places in my code?essentially I have multiple variables in my code ,different kinds of pressure for example and with each instance I declare the following;
txt_Alt_Press.Text = Strat_Press.ToString(Press_DP)
I then set Press_DP in a module, declared as a public variable,
Public Press_DP As String = ("F1")
So what I want to do is make the "F1" bit a variable in itself, so then the user can set the number of decimal places with a numeric up-down control.
I have an application where I'm allowing the user to edit the text of a treeview node. Is it possible to "lock" portions of the node's text to keep it from being edited?
For instance, if the text is "BK01" originally, can I keep the user from editing the "BK" prefix?
I currently validate the user's input when they are finished editing, but I'd like to keep them from entering incorrect information to begin with.

View 4 RepliesProblem: Using the sub routing below, when adding a value to another value the results eventually change from 2-decimal places to multiple decimal places.Basically, the amount stored should always only be 2 decimal places, because the values passed in are always 2 decimal places. Output from calling the sub routine multiple times.

As a workaround, I have a new routine that uses a custom round function to properly store only 2 decimal places - as the VB round function does not perform the type of rounding desired.I understand that we are removing the value from the dictionary and adding it back..
I'm a new user of VB.Net. I do have doubt on accessing a user defined Function or Sub. In some place of program, I do see the term "Call" when using the Function/Sub. In some other place without "Call". But both works perfectly. May I know the difference between the two.

I need to authenticate a user against LDAP/AD (windows 2008 r2) so I can leverage the domains password rules etc... I found code that will allow me to validate a users ID and Password entered into a form (using System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry) but my problem is if the user enters an invalid password more that AD is configured to allow, the account gets locked out. Is there anyway around this?
View 5 RepliesI have a "windows form" user control--that is, not on a web page etc. This user control has a form within the user control project. However, code from within the user control can't 'see' the form even though it is a public class---I don't understand why this is the case.
So how can I access the controls (a couple of radio buttons) on the form from code within the user control? I tried creating public properties on the form to return the state of the radiobuttons, but this still doesn't work. I get a "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference." error
Should I not be able to see the form since it is a public class?
I have created a page that creates a number textboxes at runtime depending on the result of a database query, (ie one textbox per row in query result). My problem is that I can't for the life of me work out how on earth to access the text from the textbox that is posted back to the server by the user when they press submit.

View 1 RepliesI've got a website and we just had a huge jump in traffic. Now all of the sudden we're getting sql parameter errors left and right. We switched to a new sql server a few weeks ago and everything has been fine but the added traffic seems to be breaking us.I have a data access class that is called when each user trys to logon. It runs through several tasks before finally updating the users last login date and forwarding them to the administration section.
What I'm seeing from the trace logs suggests that when I'm logging in the first several tasks are using my data (lets say user=birk pass=word). But at some point the accessor class starts sending over the data from someone else who's trying to login (lets say user=abcxyz).Every connection we make to the server is closed when we're finished with it. I'm nulling out all of the accessor objects when I'm finished with them. But somehow different user data from different sessions are making their way into other peoples instances of the object.
I'm not using session/application/cache/viewstate to store the objects so I'm not really seeing how they could edit eachother... Its just really weird and I'm not sure how to even go about researching the problem.This is roughly the accessor class... I trimmed out some of the parts that weren't reliant to the issue

My program is a console application, that needs to run in a batch file, but I haven't found any other way to do things other than finding a way to automatically manipulate the dialog box. I have an ASP.NET page (WebForm) on which I set the content of a central DIV by dynamically loading one of five user controls during Page_Load, dependant on the stage of the application.
One of the user controls contains radio buttons and a text box together with a submit button. What I want to do is process that information when the form is posted using the submit button.
I could do this with an AJAX call using jQuery, but I don't really want to do that, so I'm trying to access the form data on postback, but on page load following the postback the data is not present in the Request.Form object.
Looking at what I need to do it seems pretty simple and I'm sure is once you've got your head around it, but I can't find out how to carry this out. Some of the things I have read refer to event bubbling, but that doesn't make too much sense in this scenario.
EDIT: To clarify, I want to post the page back to itself to capture the values from the form elements via the Request object, store them in the database, and then display a confirmation message (or something else) on postback, and not re-display the same control again. So I won't be loading the same user control again.
I have 200 dynamic textboxes.
I am trying to limit the user input to exactly 5 characters ( not more, not less ), and numeric only.
I have been trying this :

But it always shows the last messagebox. Not all 200 textboxes will be filled in, so I suspect that it may have something to do with that, but I just need to stop the user from entering alphabetical characters, and the entered field must have a length of 5
I am using windows 2008 R2 Server and trying to Add a user in active directory .
I am able to save user ID of length less than 20 Characters.But when I am trying to increase this value to 30 characters then I am getting the error.
"System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x8007001F): A device attached to the system is not functioning. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007001F)"
This error when I searched on net give me various links saying that:
(a)verify if the issue is caused by the length of sAMAccountName
(b)The document of SAM-Account-Name also indicates that the length of it should be less than 20 characters.

I have a field that the gets a case title. Requirments are to be able to use any of these special characters in any order in the title.

I can't just take that string from the test box and put it into the sql statement. It will error.

View 7 RepliesSomeone gave me a link to a Multi-User TCP Chat application once, but, there is a flaw in it, where it wont do special characters, such as Alt+1 will become a different character to the server than the one that was sent. Even I tried to see if the output was usable but it sees it as multiple chars, when it is only 1, and I can't find a link between what it sends and what the character is, so I can't just tell it based on whats sent what the char is, because I see no relation, I would have to type it out for each and every special character.

The user can specify the amount of characters the password will be and whether to randomize between the alphabets A-Z, numbers 1-10, and maybe a hand full of symbols or so, and a combination of all three options. Also the user can use the "re-generate" button if he/she does not like the current password. I'm fairly new to VB, and would just like a push in the right direction to get started.
