Is there a way to allow the user to only type in a certain number of characters in a datagridview column? Like a invoice number can only be 1-6 digits long and I want to stop them from typing more than 6 digits.

i have a column in datagridview composed of numeric as well as aphanumeric. What i want is when the user sorts the column, it will be sorted according to its number value, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. However it my current module, the program sorts basing the first digit of the column. like 1,10,11,12,2,3,30,31.
i was thinking of converting the type to number so that it will be arrange properly, is this possible in the datagridview to covert type? because i saw only a readonly property celltype? i have also tried casting it in the sql query itself to INT but it did not work.
Is there a way to set a textbox in vb such that it does not accept a space or a non-numeric character entered by a user? I am writing a program that has a textbox called "phoneField" in which the user should type in only numbers and if the user trys to type a non-numeric character or space, nothing should be displayed in the textbox. View 3 RepliesMy homework assignment is to create a project where a user enters a password that must be at least 3 characters long with at least 1 number and 1 alphabet character. After that the password has to be encrypted so that vowels become X, numbers Z, and it reverses. For example, a password of CS2301 would be ZZZZSC. There's supposed to be Loops to extract 1 number/letter at a time and search for them in the string to validate, and I don't know what to do. The form itself has a Text Box to enter a password and a label to display the new one, and a Go button.

i have a datagridview with three columns. i set the first column to visible=false, so the user can only see two columns.when the user presses the tab key in the first visible column -- column(1), i want to ignore column(2) so that the user only tabs through the rows in column(1)i can't get it to work. it will always tabs through the rows in column(2) even if i use the column name.

I breaked point the debuging and I found that the serial number column I added is fine and has it's values, but when I reach the line relations.add(the_relation) the serial number column loses it's values and turn into an empty column with no
numbers in it....why this is happening?
Note: I added another relations but the only relations that clear the serial number column are the relations that has a datatable that is a datasource to the datagridview that has the serial number column.

This works as expected for cells with a phone number but for cells without a phone number I get
{}- Which seems like the proper output for what I specified.

I have a qestin of how to access the ValueMember after setting it? A useer adds values to a row on a grid and selects a value from the combobox. Now I need to roll through the rows to validate and insertt the records into the database. I cant seem to access the ValueMember property. I have set a a looping structure and want to access the ValueMemeber property. I can get a property called Value, but it seems to be the DesplayMember value. How to access the Valuemember?

I am writing validation for a datagridview which may open a number of different tables (dependant on what the user selects). The idea is that the user will select a lookup table to edit or add too, the datagridview opens (via a binding source) and populates itself with a specific table's data.
The user can then edit the data in the rows and when they are happy update the dataset which in turn updates the database table.
This all works except there is no validation per say prior to the update. As the datagrid loads a different table dynamically I cannot predetermine table column names (without writing a mass of hard coded values) so I would rather go by the datatype of the column since the tables all follow a similar format.[code]...

My understanding is the user must enter 32 digits into a textbox. The textbox should place limitations that only allow the digits "0" and "1". This error could be displayed to the user with a messagebox that then asks to reset the value orginally inputted into the textbox. My understanding is I should continue creating the formula of the position of each character where the third character is *2^2, fourth is *2^3, fifth is *2^4 and so on? Should I use "CheckBox type 1" or "type 2"?Also,When I make 1 of my columns a "checkBox", and then try to use it, the checkBox seems keep turning itself back ON.I turn it ON, and then click on a different column or row, and the checkbox stays ON, like it should.But if I turn the checkBox OFF, and then click on a different column or row, the checkbox magically turns itself back ON. I can't find anything in my code that says "turn it back on". And I've never connected it directly to any data source.
I have a DataGridView, bound to a dataset. All the columns are sortable (.ColumnSortMode.Automatic). The user may change data in certain columns, although not the first ("key") column. When data gets changed on a row, I change the backcolor for that row (to show it as dirty). At some point, the user will do something with all of these changes.
My problem is that I still want the user to be able to resort the data by any of those columns. When it's sorted, though, I lose the backcolors that I changed. I do know which rows are dirty, this is just a cosmetic issue. Isn't there a way to retain those backcolors, or any other such row attribute?
i am getting the xml using readxml method. And then display the data in datagrid. But number type columns comes as string type in the dataset. So when datagrid displays , sortingdatagrid columns is not correct. For example it sorts like this:

View 27 RepliesI wrote a function to format numbers like this: 123456100,12 -> 123.456.100,12 (I have a function too, which converts numbers from this strings).Now, I have a dgv and a column with these numbers (or rather strings). The sort mode is set to automatic. If I sort the column, it doesn't work, because the values are not really numbers, but strings. But I get the same result (the sorting doesn't work), if I use the formatnumber function (this returns strings too).
I could use the programmatic sort mode and before sorting I format the strings to numbers, then sort the column, and then format the numbers like above. But this is a bit slow (the dgv has appr. 800 rows), and in this case, I haven't an arrow next to the column header text.is it possible to sort the column like a normal number-column with automatic sortmode?
This is my programs complete code, the only problem is i want to fix the amount of decimal places that show up in my gridview. The problem is if i do this on the asp side the location of the column gets thrown off and the column is duplicated. I figured if i just remade the table on the asp side it would work only problem is if i remove the sql for that particular column the asp side column cannot get data.
