Extract Index Number From Column Name In DataGridView

Apr 20, 2009

I am trying to sort a column in DGV as follows:
DataGridView8.Sort(DataGridView8.Columns(0), ListSortDirection.Ascending)
However, I want to use the name of the column and extract the index number in the first parameter of the Sort method. However this fails:
DataGridView8.Sort(DataGridView8.Columns("Date").Index, ListSortDirection.Ascending)

Get Column Index Of A DataGridView Column Using DataPropertyName

Jan 18, 2012

Is there a way to find the column index of a datagridview column using the columns DataPropertyName?I currently use a loop (shown below in the class) which is kind of ugly, but it works. I'd like to do something like this, which seems more elegant. My goal is this, I store the users DataGridView column settings (i.e. DisplayIndex, Visible, & Width). When the user opens the form that contains the datagridview I want to get those settings from the database and apply the settings to the datagridview.[code]

DataGridView Get Index Of Selected Column?

May 15, 2010

I have a DataGridView containing a large number of columns. I want the users to be able to select multiple columns and then select a menu item to hide the selected columns. For example a user might selected columns 5 through 10 and I want the program to hide those columns. I know how to hide columns, one at a time. I can get the count of selected columns but I have not figured out how to get the index to the left-most selected column. Trial and error is such a slow process.

Considering the huge number of options offered by the DataGridView tool, it would be nice if this forum had a special category for the DataGridView (common to VB and C#).

Finally I got the desired results but it took a lot of coding, looping through the selected cells to find the one with the lowest column index, then a second loop to count previously-hidden columns, then a third loop for hiding the selected columns, stepping past previously-hidden columns and declining to hide frozen columns.

Add A Serial Number Column To The Datagridview?

Apr 11, 2012

OS: windows 7 64-bit /Programming Language: Visual Basic.net on Visual Studio 2010 express edition.I have dataset with 4 tables each one of them is a datasource to a datagridview I want to add a serial number column to the datagridview so I made this

DataGridView1.Columns.Add("serial", "SER.")
For x As Integer = 0 To (ds.Tables("workers").Rows.Count - 1)
DataGridView1("serial", x).Value = (x + 1)
Next

It was working fine untill I added a relationship to the dataset the relationships codes were

Dim relation_WC As New DataRelation("relation_WC", ds.Tables("workers").Columns("id"), ds.Tables("cources_jun").Columns("workerid"))
Dim relation_WV As New DataRelation("relation_WV", ds.Tables("workers").Columns("id"), ds.Tables("vacations_jun").Columns("workerid"))

[code]....

I breaked point the debuging and I found that the serial number column I added is fine and has it's values, but when I reach the line relations.add(the_relation) the serial number column loses it's values and turn into an empty column with no
numbers in it....why this is happening?

Note: I added another relations but the only relations that clear the serial number column are the relations that has a datatable that is a datasource to the datagridview that has the serial number column.

Datagridview - Get Index Of Column Named "x"?

Jun 5, 2011

This is something that's been bugging me for a while. Say I have a dgv with several columns and rows of data. Many times while working with the grid, it's necessary to know the number of the column, but all you know is the column header name, or vice versa. Is there any internal command that will return these values, or is there at least a better solution to the problem than making a function that loops through every header name until you find the one you want? It just seems so inefficient.

DataGridView Index - Index Was Out Of Range?

Apr 14, 2009

I am working in VB 2008 and I have set up a datagridview to display rows of data which can then be selected. When I select the first row I get the error: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. When I select any other row the program executes as it should. From what I have learned so far is that the DataGridView has an index of -1 and that it counts the header row as part of the index which is the -1.When I select the first row through either DataGridView1_RowHeaderMouseClick or DataGridView1_CellContentClick the index is 0 for the first record. If the index is 0 I think it would fire off, but I have no idea what is happening behind the scenes. I can check the index, so when it is 0 and the code attempts to access the row, that is when I get the message. On an index number of 1 and up the code executes fine. So, is there a way to re-index the DataGridView, or is there a work around/fix for this issue?

Ort The Column Like A Normal Number-column With Automatic Sortmode?

Sep 5, 2010

I wrote a function to format numbers like this: 123456100,12 -> 123.456.100,12 (I have a function too, which converts numbers from this strings). Now, I have a dgv and a column with these numbers (or rather strings). The sort mode is set to automatic. If I sort the column, it doesn't work, because the values are not really numbers, but strings. But I get the same result (the sorting doesn't work), if I use the formatnumber function (this returns strings too).

I could use the programmatic sort mode and before sorting I format the strings to numbers, then sort the column, and then format the numbers like above. But this is a bit slow (the dgv has appr. 800 rows), and in this case, I haven't an arrow next to the column header text.is it possible to sort the column like a normal number-column with automatic sortmode?

VS 2010 PIN Number Extract From Database?

Oct 27, 2010

I have a question about how to get a button to check for a textbox contents, and then compare that with data in my fairly simple database (It's meant as a login procedure).

Here's my database:

It has 2 values, 1 for the manager and 1 for the Admin

Here's my Login screen:

Now...

Everything works just fine, all the code is correct so all the buttons work. For the program i'm making, there's 3 types of users, 1 user who can only change how much money a customer owes the company, 1 user that can add new customers and other little things and one Admin who can change pin numbers and manage backups and stuff like that. For the last 2, i need pin-number/password protection obviously.

The user should enter the pin and then press ok, after which the ok button checks if the pin number the user entered, corresponds to either identifier 1 or 2 (5566 or 6655 for now) and if correct, show the user the next form.

.net - Extract A Comma Separated Number From A String

Jan 24, 2012

I'm trying to write two regex's - you'll need to tell me if they're even possible. Both are based on VB.net syntax.

Regex 1:
The string I'm testing against -
Size on disk: 25,754,900,936 bytes

It has a handful of leading spaces, but the text is ALWAYS the same. I'm trying to extract out just the number (25,754,900,936).

I've tried a handful of regex's, but I can't get everything on one line. The commas are messing me up and returning multiple matches (For example, d+W+ gives me four matches, one for each set of numbers separated by commas.)

The best I've done is [0-9/,]* but that gives me 25 empty matches and one match (On match 19) of the number. I need this to match on match 1.

Extract A Large Number Of URLs From A Site?

Dec 18, 2010

I've a situation where I am trying to extract a large number of URLs from a site, but the site which provides the URLs has an obstacle. Rather than the link directly to the site, they provide a link to an internal page, which automatically redirects me to the URL I need.

i.e.
<a href="www.StartingSite.com/outgoing/1234" ...> Example.com</a>

which passes me to an internal page, then automatically routes me to Example.com

I've suspected if I can do this, it would be through cookies.

Perhaps a little more work, I could create a page which calls each page, then I could acquire the URLs from my history, but my browser would crash for the # of URLs I'm extracting.

any means I could gather the end URL of this link?
