Problem: Calling a method which uses a cell's value from a DataBound DataGridView. Works as desired without adding an image column.When I add the image column, the method attempts to use the value from column 1 instead of column 2, as the code in the 2nd method below ("findSign") states:

View 5 RepliesI doing something really simple on vb studio 2008 express, i added a table from a datasource directly to the windows form and created a datagridview the table has no data yet, it has a primary key id int, and some columns some of then allow nulls, i added the entire table with the common steps and when clicking in the add button of the bindingnavigator twice i get the not nullable column is allowed exception but i dont know where does this exception ocurrs beacuse it breaks with no code line another thing is that i clic on the delete button when theres no data and i get an invalid operation exception again with no code line break why is this configured that way? am i missing any step in order to avoid this exceptions?, i tried to handle the dataerror event of the datagrid and set throwexception to false but some errors are not trapped like the ones at the top of this?
View 2 RepliesI have a DataGridView containing a large number of columns. I want the users to be able to select multiple columns and then select a menu item to hide the selected columns. For example a user might selected columns 5 through 10 and I want the program to hide those columns. I know how to hide columns, one at a time. I can get the count of selected columns but I have not figured out how to get the index to the left-most selected column. Trial and error is such a slow process.
Considering the huge number of options offered by the DataGridView tool, it would be nice if this forum had a special category for the DataGridView (common to VB and C#).
Finally I got the desired results but it took a lot of coding, looping through the selected cells to find the one with the lowest column index, then a second loop to count previously-hidden columns, then a third loop for hiding the selected columns, stepping past previously-hidden columns and declining to hide frozen columns.
I have datagridview with XSD as the binding source (i configured it with the smart tags). After build, the dgv change its columnIndex which surely result error of my code.
For example
columnIndex(0) = idEmployee (dataGridViewTextBoxColumn)
columnIndex(1) = name (dataGridViewTextBoxColumn)
columnIndex(2) = status (dataGridViewCheckBoxColumn)
suddenly, the columnIndex(2) moved into columnIndex(0)

I'm working on VB .NET 2008.
Target: Bind dynamic datasource in a cell of a Windows.Forms.DataGridView depending on the selection in previous column. The grid must have 7 columns. If the selection on comboboxcolumn 2 or 4 is done, the datasource of comboboxcolumns 3 and 5 mus change using a query with previous selection as parameter.
In a first try to develop this functionality i've tried to use Telerik.WinControls.UI.RadGridView control. I've created a customized celltemplate with a combobox in order to have different datasource for each cell on the same column. All worked fine but seems to be some kind of bug in RadGridView, because when the combobox is presenting the list, after selection the list continued showing, doesn't dissapears as expected.
Ok, after several days of fight with RadGridView, I give up, and I tried to use same strategy but using Windows.Forms.DataGridView. I've created two classes one inherited from DataGridViewComboboxCell and other from ComboBoxColumn, in order to insert my own combbox or have the chance to have access directly to the combobox values. But the combobox showed is the default combobox not my own combobox.
how can I create a custom comboboxcell but using my own combo, and having access from outside to this combo?

I have a DataGridView that is bound to a DataTable. In this DataTable is a column that contains an image path location, ie; c:imagesmoon.jpg. In the DGV, I'm only displaying 2 columns, the "Name" of the image and the "Image" itself, which basically is the path information. how do I get the image to display in DGV Column? Because even though it's bound...no data comes up when I run the app.

However, for some reason, I cannot check any of the check boxes in the DataGridView? I have tried lots of things (e.g.altering the readonly state of the column) but cannot get it to work.

Adding the following code will get my Information Icon (bitmap) to display in each of the column cells but NOT the column header:

Also, it is worth noting that the image displays 'perfectly' in the cells i.e. it is sized correctly to fit the cell.
However, I cannot find a way to add the same image to the column header cell. After some googling I used the following code which placed the image in the header cell but left me with two problems:
The image did not 'auto-size' to the column headercell in the same way it did when added to the column cells. The image was slightly larger and blurred.
By using the _CellPainting event slowed down performance i.e. when hovering over the DataGridView to highlight the selected row the highlighting lagged behind where my mouse was placed.

Many times while working with the grid, it's necessary to know the number of the column, but all you know is the column header name, or vice versa. Is there any internal command that will return these values, or is there at least a better solution to the problem than making a function that loops through every header name until you find the one you want? It just seems so inefficient.

I edited the DGV, and add a new image column.
I created a directory in my solution called "references" where I put all the .bmp files
I don't know how to do this. My first thought was to put an expression in the DataTable Properties, but I didn't manage to make that work. Another way is to format the cells in the "Symbol" column, and again I don't know how to do that. I tried with "Select Case ... Case ... End Select" with no success.
LE: Should I Insert the .bmp files into SQL database (varbinary(MAX)) If yes, how?
