Add A Filter (or Automatic Extension Recognizer) In The Screen ?
Jun 15, 2012
I have some questions with the code uploaded above. As you see, it is an advanced file downloader. Now, my first question is:
1. How to add a filter (or automatic extension recognizer) in the screen of ... button? And, how to code the program to automatically add the extension of the given URL?
2. I want to code the Open File button in Form2 to open the downloaded file. I tried to use the downloading : label, but it just gave me some errors. What shall I do?
I am searching through files and only want to include files with certain extensions. Right now I have what is below but it would be stupid to do it that way for 3 or more file types and it isn't completely case insensitive.
If ext = ".jpg" Or ext = ".JPG" Then
I want to check for .jpg .gif .png all case insensitive.
I have a VB.NET program with a SaveFileDialog control with the filter set as ".asx|*.asx|.m3u|*.m3u" (without the quotes). It works fine to save a file, but if I then try to save a file with the same name of an existing file and then change the extension in the save as type box, it still thinks I want to save the file as the existing file and asks to overwrite the file, disregarding the newly selected file extension.
I have tried setting the SaveFileDialog.FileName = Nothing after saving a file, so the Save File Dialog Box the File name box is empty, but then I like to click the existing file to get the file name I want, then select a new extension and try to save, but it still asks to overwrite the file with the other extension.
I hope my situation is clear and sorry if it has been already asked a million times...but can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me how I can save the file with the currently selected extension, not the previous selected extension when the file name was entered?
Code: If SaveFileDialog.ShowDialog = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then If Path.GetExtension(SaveFileDialog.FileName) = ".asx" Then ' Code Here to Prepare the CodeASX ...
I've ran out of options, and there simple was no other place to come. I have wanted to make a 3D game for so long, so bad, I can't even describe it. Now I started in C# making 3D games in the XNA Game Studios 3.1 Engine, but I eventually fell through the cracks. Let's cut to the point, shall we? I was wondering if there was a simple way in Visual Basic 2008, that I could maybe display a 3D model on the screen, like a .x file extension, or .fbx, or .obj or anything...? I can easily create 3D models, and I'm good at it, but is there a simple way, or a component/refrence/game engine that you could use with Visual Basic 2008. I know there's alot more to making games then just display models, Why I choose Visual Basic 2008, you ask? Well, it's my best language and I can easily write small games with x, y, z and float positions.
To filter a DataGridview, I have created a combo box filled with data from a field of the same datasource(and obviously set its "AutoCompleteMode" to "SuggestAppend" and "AutoCompleteSource" to "Customsource").This is the code, and it works:
VB Dim qryContactNames = From contact In Db.Contacts Select contact.ContactName' BIND THE COMBOBOXMe.cboContactName.ValueMember =
I'm creating a On-Screen keyboard for my application, and it supports skins as well. Here's what I'm doing with the skins, I have a folder which contains some images and a xml file which maps the images to the keyboard, I want to be able to have the folder as a zip file like in Office 2007 (.docx) and iPhone firmwares (.ipsw), I know I can simply zip the folder and change the extension, what I need to know is how to read the files in the code.

I'm working on Visual Studio 2010 and I have a Visual Basic 2010 Windows Application. I have a DataSet and in my form i want to give the user the option to "filter" the data he sees on the screen. So, for example, I have:
"Choose Bank Name" - TextBox1 "Choose Car Type" - TextBox2 "Choose Agent" - TextBox3 And so on (9 text boxes more)
Now, the user can filer the bank name and agent only, but he can leave them blank and I want the app to generate an SQL Statement and to change the dataset in real time. I know how to generate the SQL Statement, but i don't know how to change the data set sql string in real time.
Why would I use an extension method instead of just creating non-extension sub or function?
For ex, I could have an extension function called IsNullOrEmptyOrAllSpaces on String, which does a check as its name implies. Or I can write a stand alone function that does the same thing. Other than having the extension show up in Intellisense, is there any advantage? Is a call to the extension quicker/more efficient than a call to a regular function?
BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps. Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?
I saw this post and I want to know if this is possible in VB. So like extension method, do extension properties exists in VB.Net? Here I've read they do, but cannot find any examples.
vb <System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Extension()> _ Public Sub Invert(ByVal b As Bitmap)
is there any way of hiding this from inteli-sense if it is not used as an extension?so that pressing ctl+space only triggers it if you go "bitmap.Inve.." rather than prompting on "Inve..."?
I am trying to filter the results of a datagridviw using the bindingsource.filter method.
Dim filters(2) As String ... If Me.txtPartIDFilter.Text = "" Then
[code]....
The issue is in the last line. ID_Part is an Int64 data type filters(0) is a string so the system returns a "Can't perform 'Like' operation on System.Int64 and System.String" error message. As you can see I tried converting the data type, but that failed since it is encased in String.Format()- it's going to be a string no matter what, I suppose. It's almost 1:00 a.m. so I'm not firing on all cylinders.
i want to filter date and also time (shortime) for example if Datum.hour="8:15" andalso Datum.day of week "Saturday"or "Monday" now i can only filter date ... this is my filterline objbindingsource.Filter = "Datum > = '" & Dtp1.Value.Date & "'"
I want to filter a text in all columns in a datagridview. So I use Like % in the filter text. However, I found that the text(strFilter in my code) may contain % sometimes. So it have a syntax error. How can I use filter with like clause when the filter text contains %?
Private Sub PassFilter(ByRef dataTable As DataTable, ByVal strFilter As String) Try Dim dataview As DataView = dataTable.DefaultView
I am using VB 08 running an openfiledialogue wanting to get the result of the GDS file (*.gds) to be the default extension at the drop down menu instead of All file when the openfiledialogue box opens.
but the results i get in the open file dialogue box remains as all files being in the drop down menu as the default file extension. How to i set it to ".gds" format?
Now I'm creating at app in VB (Microsoft's, Visual Basic 2010) which will be in full screen but I want to know if I can put all my content in the centre of the screen. At the moment it's at the far top, left of the screen. When the screen size varies I want it will stay in the middle for all shapes and sizes. Like :
I'm trying to get coordinates on my screen by holding down my mouse and placing it over different parts of the screen. I'm using the mouse_up and down events in a button to kinda simulate the mouse being held down. The problem I'm running into is that anytime I go past the button's bounds, the coordinates I want stop. This is what I have so far:
I have created a GUI and have set my 'Form1' window to match that of my PC monitor ( 1280x1024 ). However when i move the project to work on my netbook, the screen on my netbook is only 1024x600 and half my GUI is missing. Is there any way i can adjust my settings so that my 'Form1' GUI will auto adjust and display in full on both screen when i move the project back and forth?
I'm coding a splash screen in VB.Net that displays for 3 seconds then shows a login screen. But the splash shows up even when login shows and I have told the splash to hide. Here is my code:
I send a message a while ago and no one answerd, how can I draw directly on the screen (not on a specific window) just on the screen, neither if it's on the desktop or anything else.Is there is any option to bring up the switch between applications window (Alt + Tab), I don't want to use sendkeys because the user need to keep the key down and I just want the user to select the application with his mouse.
