How can I add space after every 4 characters to string that returned from a function? I know the returned value it is 8 or 12 or ...etc.

View 3 RepliesWhen I typed Private Sub cmdAbc_(Click) and pressed Enter key the first 12 characters erase leaving cmdAcc_(Click) and the cursor on the next line. Then pressing the up arrow or space bar restores the erased characters. This problem makes coding a program impossible. Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days.So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then
If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!

But, that removes every space. I also tried .StartsWith, but it still removed every space. I didn't actually expect that to work, but if I hadn't tried it, I wouldn't have actually know.

So I basically want to make sure that a string entered by the user is valid. Valid being over 10 characters, containing only upper case characters, and only characters A - Z and spaces. The first two were easy, but I'm having trouble with the third, though.What I originally attempted to do was create a loop which checks if the first invalid character is present with the InStr function, by using the characters ASCII value. The next ASCII value is then checked, and so on until it has checked the string for every single invalid character. If an invalid character gets picked up, 1 is added to a variable, and after the loop is finished executing, if the variable is no longer 0, invalid characters have been detected.

I can't just split using a space because some of my values may contain spaces, e.g., test 1.So, I'd like to split the string using the " before the space. I've tried many variations but can't figure out the correct syntax to specify that my split characters are a " followed by a space. For instance, I've tried text.split({""" "}) but that returns elements split by " and ignores the space after the ".It shouldn't be this difficult. Can someone please help me with the correct syntax?

I try to remove empty space from a large string, using replace(), and using regex.
the replace method:

and with regex using its replace with : "/ss+/" - regular expression.
but I am still stuck with empty strings such as :

Each description can contain spaces so I can't remove the spaces before splitting by comma to add the single quotes around each description. I want to remove all white space after a single quote since no description will start with a space. What's the best way to do this in VB.NET? Regular expression or a string function? I want to map this to the following class using Xml Deserialization, but I can't find a way to map the tags attribute to an actual List(Of String).
