View 1 RepliesI'm writing an application that I want to keep status text always on the taskbar. Some programs like Windows Media player create a toolbar that can be added to the taskbar. Is there a way to do this in VB.NET, and if so how ... ?
I can create a notifyicon, and although it can be used to display notifications I need the text information to always be displayed... I could have used different icons to show a change in status in the notifytray but I really need text to display the status.
I am creating a toolbar for the desktop. The only problem I have is that all though I have the windows above all others windows I need to have the other programs (not created by me) to snap or max to below my program etc. I have tried to search but have not found anything to help me or explain how to do it..
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Ultmate (visual basic 2010)..
I'm looking into figuring out how to add a deskband as a toolbar to my taskbar, very similar to the google desktop search toolbar. All it needs to have is a search textbox, a button, and some way to display results.
I want to add it to an existing application, so that when the application is minimized it'll turn into a toolbar so that certain program functions will be available all the time. This means that I have a few things to figure out:We mostly have windows xp machines, but we hope to upgrade to windows 7 over the next year. In light of this, should I keep researching deskbands, or should I try to figure out thumbnail toolbars? I've seen a link to [URL].. as one way to do it in C#, which I might be able to translate to VB.Net. I also found [URL].. which kind of tells how to do things. Is there a better way to accomplish this?Should I just skip all of this and have a small windows form that opens up from an icon in the system tray?
I couldn't find any taskbar button in the toolbar.Usually, when i minimize a button, it will be minimized to the toolbar and once you click the taskbar button, it can be enlarged.however, i couldn't find any taskbar button. Please could you raise some suggestions?any way of resolution without coding?
View 1 RepliesI have searched and searched how to do this but everything leads back to Appbars (dockable forms) which is not what i need.
I want a toolbar that goes into the taskbar, like WMP, itunes, language toolbar.
Preferably in vbnet, but if its in C# then thats fine.
How to implement a floating toolbar in the desktop form that can be placed anywhere in the form and also tell me if this can be called by other form other than actual form implementing it to display to the user for some common purpose.
View 5 RepliesI am using Visual Basic .Net 2010. I have created a desktop toolbar in my application. I can dock it on any side of any monitor I have. I can move it. It works great. One problem I have, however, is that when I move the toolbar to another edge it appears to leave something behind. The desktop looks clean, but when I ALT+TAB through my applications, I have several items in the list that apparently are left behind from previous locations of the toolbar.
I am using SHAppBarMessage(ABM_REMOVE,abd) as I leave the old location and then SHAppBarMessage(ABM_NEW,abd) and SHAppBarMessage(AMB_ACTIVATE, abd) (With abd.lParam set to true) and SHAppBarMessage(ABM_SETPOS,abd) and SHAppBarMessage(AMB_WINDOWPOSCHANGED,abd).
One item I saw in an article was the uCallBackMessage parameter of the AppBarData structure. I do not know how to set this correctly and respond to callback messages. I do have a Protected Override Sub WndProc method, but I do not know what to do with it.
Im pretty newbie in coding as my only resource of learning Visualbasic is from the internet..And , I would like to disable some key inputs when my application starts.Means i will put the script given by you guys at MyBase.Load.
View 10 RepliesI created a new ShellAppBar window (similar to the taskbar) but i want it to replace the taskbar. My question is: i can remove the taskbar but can't resize the desktop's working area, so my appbar is sitting above the taskbar (which is not even there).
View 1 RepliesWhen I press "Show Desktop" button in the taskbar my main form "disappears". The only way to show it again is by pressing an other program which is open in the taskbar (lets say Word) to rise and unrise again.
View 1 RepliesI have searched high and low but cannot find any info on how to add a textbox into the Windows taskbar - like the Windows Search does? I want to make my own search tool and have a textbox show up there in the Windows taskbar just like the windows search does. Has anyone got or sample code to do this?

View 1 RepliesIs there any way to access the built in toolbar pictures that Microsoft has so kindly developed. I want to use them in my toolbar but when you go to change the image setting of a toolstripbutton your only choice is the local resource file.
View 2 RepliesI'm wondering how I would go about creating a program that once installed was a windows toolbar. What I'm trying to do is similar to the clipboard, but I want to customize it to my own style. I work in a data entry job and many of the bills we enter have similar information that I'd like to be able to enter without repeated typing. I'd like the toolbar to be docked to the top of the screen, and have several buttons on it. Clicking a button, while having a focus in my data entry program, would paste the button's text (or the full text of what the button caption represented) into the selected field. Alternately, if focus between multiple applications is too difficult to try, then clicking the button would highlight the text and copy it to the windows clipboard, so I could then click back into my data entry program and hit ctrl-v. I dont need help on the program itself...just on how to make it as a windows toolbar, if possible.
View 1 Repliesi want to design a new program that should start with windows and its icon should appear at the toolbar the idea is when i click on the icon a rectangular forum should appear. my question is that: what is the best tool or control should i use? should i use the blank project of windows application or there is special project for that.

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to make a thumbnail toolbar button (TTB from now on)visible when the it is clicked. I know how to do stuff when it is clicked, AddHandler etc. But if I tell it TTB.visible=false then it doesn't become invisible. If I put TTB.enabled = False it will be disabled, so it's only the visible that isn't working.
Also I put a button on my form (not a TTB) and when that is click wrote, TTB.visible = false and that didn't work, so there is no way to make it invisible.
I'm getting started with VB 2008 and was wondering which control I can use to create a Toolbar within a windows form title bar, as MS Word 2007 does?
View 5 RepliesI have a program that has a main window, and a progression of other windows that all open from each other. I only want the main window to show in the taskbar, and I want to be able to minimize at any window, and have every window minimize to a single item in the taskbarThe problem is: when I set each form's 'SHOWINTASKBAR' to True, every form shows in the taskbar instead of just one. If I set the 'SHOWINTASKBAR' property to False, they don't minimize to the taskbar.
View 1 RepliesI am making a Kiosk system and would like to recreate the Windows Taskbar in VB.NET, specifically the window management features of the taskbar: displaying open windows, switching between windows, and highlighting which window has focus. if the taskbar had the same positioning properties as the Windows Taskbar, in that even when other windows had focus the taskbar would still have focus and would not taking focus away from windows on the screen, and maximized windows would not maximize over the taskbar.
View 1 RepliesWindows 7 has a new feature which shows ProgressBar in TaskBar.There's a Windows API released by Microsoft which is a wrapper for .NET applications that allows .NET developers use these functions in their apps.I am not going to use it and just wanna know if there is any new functions in .NET Framework 4.0 RTM which allows us to use such functions naively in .NET?

View 2 RepliesI saw an application for cashier system in a certain store. I noticed that while the application was running, the window form of their application occupies the entire screen and the windows taskbar seems to be hidden. I'm just curious how did they hide the windows taskbar? Do they hide the taskbar in a manual settings on their computer before the application was launched? If not, how did they make their application capable of hiding the taskbar? Please put a detail code if applicable. I just want to know how to hide the taskbar when you launch the application and put it back when you exits the application as well.
