View 5 RepliesI have an autocomplete textbox in vb.net. It is working fine, but now I need to pop up the window again when the user hits enter or double clicks. So far, I know that when the user hits enter, the keydown event raises with e.kecode = 13. I guess my code would go here. My problem is how do I tell autocomplete to start again after the user hits enter??

I started learning vb 2010 over the internet for about an a week and got stuck on this assignment that I got from the internet
1.Add one textbox so the user can enter a distance measured in feet. Add labels as needed.
2.Add a button control which when clicked is converts the feet to meters (1 foot = 0.3048 meters), accepting floating point values and preserving them (no integer conversions) and display the output as shown next. 1 Points
3.Display the conversion result using a MessageBox (not msgbox) using this format: x feet is y meters, where x is the value entered and y is the result of the conversion to meters with up to 2 decimal places only. Then show an extra line of "Would you like to start another distance conversion?" and make the No button the default in the message popup and display the question icon.
4. If the user chooses Yes, cleanup the controls as in the Reset button. 0.5 Point
5.If the user clicks no, ask in another MessageBox if the user wants to quit.
6.If the user chooses to quit, close the window, otherwise no action is required.
I would like to make an application whereby the user can select a color, enter a character into a textbox, select another color, enter another character and so on and so on...This multi colored text that has been entered into the textbox by the user must then be shown on a label. I cant get the damn characters in the label different colors They are all for example, either red or all blue.
View 2 RepliesI may be doing this wrong but I want to call a sub when the user presses enter on a textbox. The sub then shows a window in dialog mode. When I close that window, the computer makes a ding sound. Why is that? Is there a better way for detecting enter being presses on a textbox and not getting that ding?

I am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.
Here is my code Example
CODE:
This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.
CODE:
Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.
CODE:
And do this with variable number 2, 3, 4, 5.
I know there are easier ways to do these with arrays and stuff. But I am not there yet. I am still learning about ifs and stuff.

I just D/L VB express 8, and I'm trying to learn how to use it. what I'm trying to do is write some code that:takes a number into a text box (textbox1.text)do some simple calculations with that number when I press a button (button1)display the results in a second text box 9textbox2.textThe first problem I am having:The numbers are in the "milli" range, meaning to the power of negative three, so 10^-3 = 0.01 I do not want to enter 10^-3 or any other exponent into the textbox, I am simply entering in 10 because all my units will be in milli. I've tried using exponent and scientific notation but it doesn't calculate correctly. I've done a "work around" to get it to do what I want, but there has to be a simpler way to achieve the above results without. for example, the user enters 10 into the textbox, the button multiplies 10^-3 *30, as a crude example, and stroes that value (say, B=10^-3*30) and B is DIM B as Double.
Problem number two:Error checking. I need to validate that only numbers can be entered into the textbox, or else the program will display an error message (messagebox). I can achieve this to some degree with sample code from here and other places, but, some of the code does not take into account that some numbers have decimal places (I have foud code that does, and it does work), but if a users enters, say the letter "E", it crashes the program. If the user enters "10.3Z", it crashes the program. I cannot seem to code for the last case, a mixture of numbers and letters to get an error message box.
how can i code a simple program to generate the maximum number i enter/type within 3 or more numbers using math.max. for example, if i enter 25, 60, 45 how can i use math.max to calculate the largest value out of the 3 numbers?
