I have an application which won't run on a German version of XP. It crashes when trying to load a setting from a .exe.config file. The line it fails on is: [Code] however the value in the variable ends up as 8.0 (it is a single). In an English version of XP the value in the variable ends up as .8 as one would expect. Weird huh? Anybody got an explanation?
Rudimentary Translator gives English words and their French and German equivalents. Store these words in a text file and read them into a structure having a member for each language. Write a program that sorts arrays according to the English words. The program should then request an English sentence as input from the keyboard and translate it into French and German. For example, if the English sentence given is MY PENCIL IS ON THE TABLE, the French translation will be MON CRAYON EST SUR LA TABLE, and the German translation will be MEIN BLEISTIFT IST AUF DEM TISCH.
Note: Assume that the only punctuation in the sentence is a period at the end of the sentence. Use a binary search to locate each English word.English words and their French and German equivalents.
English French German YES OUI JA TABLE TABLE TISCH THE LA DEM
As I said, I have a vb.net application which runs perfectly fine on Windows XP EN. However, it becomes problematic when run it under Windows XP in German Language. I have a string type in app.config file, it stores a color's RGB value "0,102,255" as a string. When the application starts loading, I will grab that value as a string and use ColorConverter object to convert it to a color as shown the following
Dim oConverter As New ColorConverter
Dim oColor As Color = CType(oConverter.ConvertFromString(My.Settings.MyColorString), Color)
In my vb.net Project, i would like to set an own prerequisities ... Under "ADD --> New Project --> Other Project Types --> Setup and Deployment --> Setup Project --> Properties" you have the possibility to change all Prerequisites...
So for example can you say, that everyone should have .net framwork 2.0 ... thats fine but ...I would like, that if someone would install my project, he should have also the .net framework 2.0 language package german ...How can i make that thing? Is there anyone who has an idea? :)
I'm having problem with our germany customers whose operating system uses dot as thousand separator and comma as decimal point.I have an application which reads some text from an Access database, parse it into data and display on a datagridview, the program also needs to write the data into another file as input to another application. right now, it seems when my application parses doubles (say 0.2500),germany os will always return everything except the decimal dot(so 0.2500 becomes 2500),and that just messed up the whole process...so my question is, how can we detect the locale of the windows and parse the doubles correctly?
Is there any way to make my programs use a lower version of net.framework other than the newest version 4 that comes with VS2010?I use my programs within a closed network and there isn't an easy way for me to install any software since I'm not the administrator.
I'm trying to add functionality to my application that will disable buttons and checkboxes depending on what version the OS is when the app is launched. I made a test app to test this but unfortunately I can not get it to work. Here is my code:
'OS Check Dim osValue As Object osValue = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrent Version", "CurrentVersion", "5.2")
[Code]...
*Note - 5.2 is Windows 2003, 6.0 is Vista, 5.1 is Windows XP
I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system. And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security. How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?
I have a XML file with the latest application version number, I have this loaded into a variable, how can i compare this against the application.info.version to see if it's the latest version??
I want my application to do something special :D.. jks
I just want it to compare assembly version to the file version something like this (btw i also want it if it is the same i want it to enable a button):
Private Sub StartSplash_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load If Assembly Version = File Version Then
[Code].....
so how do i detect Assembly & File version numbers?
I'm facing a major problem with a Deployment Project I created to install one of my applications.I am using the ENGLISH IDE of the Visual Studio 2008 - even though my end users will have German environments. This is why I set the
Localization = German
Property in the Deployment Project's Properties. The UI of the generated setup is German, so all's fine there. However, the setup installs the ENGLISH .Net Framework. I have not found any way around this. The problem are at least twofold:
1. An English Framework on a German PC might cause instabilities.
2. It's a big flaw to see UI inconsistencies (i.e. the UI and Setup of the application is German while the NET Framework shows certain elements in English, e.g. the DisplayName property of cultures)how can I get the project to install the localized .NET Framework?
i have an old VB6 system that generates plain text files. When this old system writes "A" into the file, it writes (hex) "41". For an "ä" (a-umlaut, special gernam character), it writes (hex) "E4".
Now i have to process files like this in VB.Net. when i open such a file in the IDE, it displays correctly "ä" (But not always!). To see what i mean, please open a notepad and create a new file "ae.txt" with content: äöü. Now your file contains exactly 3 bytes: (hex) E4 F6 FC.
But when i write code like Dim strTest As String strTest = File.ReadAllText("ae.txt") Debug.Print(InStr(strTest, "ä"))
i get 0 - so i cannot find back the "ä" - what do i need to do, to find it? And 2) for compatibility reasons, i have also to be able to create such files. How to do that? Seems the different encoding types do not work as i think.
they need to make some compare version between host version and client version.. and each 1 version different will download the file to the client..[URL]..with both example, how can i make a program in VB.NET just like i said just now?
How come software created in an older framework version won't run on a newer framework version? Actually whenever i try to run some old specific software having .net 3.5 framework on my PC they show they needs .net framwork 1.1 . What a bad thing? My newer version of Photoshop ans Ms office open all lower version files.
I am using an about Box in my program and the version number doenst change. Its 1.0.0.0.0 , does anyone know how to sink the version number in the box with the version number being published.
I've had an app running without problem for a few months now. When the app crashed it would pop up a message where I could look at the error message to determine why it crashed. After a recent Windows 2003 update, when the app crashes it no longer pops up the message, writes to any log or appears in the event viewer so I have no idea now why it's crashing. Is there a way to determine what is going on that would help me see why my app is crashing?
I'm using VB6 SP6 and every time I close the editor it crashes. The application fails whenever it is closed, regardless of whether a project is loaded or not.
I am using VB.NET Framework 3.5 . I have a very complicated program with over 40 forms and 100s of lines of coding. Earlier today, this program worked perfectly. I decided to change the Assembly Name from APA to Salamander. I do not get any errors and things seem to be going fine. Upon the next debug, the splash screen loads fine. (I am using a timer to proceed to the main form, not the inbuilt splash screen setting as I found it to be more reliable). However, when the main form loads, none of the pictures (resources) load and it exits itself immediately yet no errors appear at all. I think it might be to do with the .resources file but I really don't know. As I only started Visual Basic less than two months ago I'm not sure what all the files other than .vb files actually are.I really don't want to have to completely rebuild the program as my release date is in five days and as I am still at school I don't have time to complete it on top of homework. I have tried changing the assembly name back to APA again but it still does not work. I am completely stumped.
I am writing a system that utilizes the Timer to execute a command after an interval of three seconds. The command is to send a trigger to my RFID reader and hence the program will then decode the received data and changed it to information. It runs fine for the first few hours, but it will crash after that and the error given is an "System.NullReferenceExeption - Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error. Initially, i thought that it might be something that relates to my comobobox selected index change event that might be causing the crashes, but yet the application is crashes after i removed the section.
I fail to find the reason of the crash, even after spend fewing days finding the memory leak or some other events that might cause the crash.
I have insert TRY CATCH METHOD, just to catch the exeption error message that might cause by one of the codes, but still it doesnt show me.
I recently finished an application which I spent a long time making, but when I sent it to my friends so they could beta test, everyone single one of them said it stopped responding on start up. I took the .exe out of the project>bin>debug>application.exe and thats what I gave them, and it doesn't crash for me, so i was wondering what might be causing it to crash, or if they would need extra files for it to work properly?
Also, when my friend opened it, he says he got an error that says: Name: Microsoft .NET Error
I have created a program in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, and it runs fine on my computer, but on client computers (which do have the .NET |Framework installed), it crashes. I have ran Win dbg, and it says the program encountered a break instruction exception. I have googled a lot, but can't make the program work on client computers.
i have created a very simple console application in vb.net that emails me some info from the db daily. everythign works in my dev environment, however when i move it out to production and try to run the executable, i get the following error message:"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. please close the program"i have put in some exception checks in the code:
Dim output As String Try output = FormatIndividualRecords(False)
when I added code to impersonate a user it crashes my app when unning on a new test pcalso data from an access database no longer populates my list boxesso first please help me to pass credentials to teh commands I need to run on remote machines , here is my code so far...

When I try to access the Macro IDE or open MyMacros I get the error: Vsaenv: Cannot find one or more components. reinstall the application. I have reinstalled (rebuild in place) VS2010 Pro - didn't help.
After the error the IDE goes away for a while and sometimes crashes and sometimes it returns to the code IDE. If I try again as often as not VS crashes hard. On reload it looks like it is going through rebuilding settings.
