Dec 12, 2009I am creating a multi-user application using VB 2005 Pro and SQL Server 2005.I would like to know what your ideas are when it comes to managing user permissions in regard to being able to view, add, edit and delete information in the database? Do you think I should have the end user type in the information into the VB application which then will create an SQL server user and then apply permissions to that security user or should I fine-grain the application by allowing groups to be created and then assigning permissions and users to those groups?

Public Function convertQTY(ByVal units_case As Integer, ByVal quantity As QTY) As QTY
While quantity.pieces < 0 And quantity.cartons > 0
If quantity.pieces < 0 And quantity.cartons > 0 Then

For example if units/pieces per carton is 144 then the above code converts the pieces into cartons if the number exceeds 144 and if the pieces are less than 0 then the above code subtracts 1 from carton and adds units per carton into the number of pieces. So that the pieces never exceed total number of pieces in a carton and they are never shown to be less than 0.
I want the same effect in summary field in my crystal report. For showing sum of cartons and pieces at the end of each group.
VS 2005 : Multiple Checkboxes With Apply Button?
Aug 10, 2009What I have is approximately 20 checkboxes each one executes the following code below... They do start and stop the service. I also have another 10 checkboxes that make various changes to the registry however there are several issues I am having.....
1. I can set the registry value but I need to get a registry value to see if it is set to 1 or 0 or another number, if that registry value returns as the 0 then the checkbox would be unchecked if the registry if it is set to 1 then the box would be checked (this is an example) however it would be testing for a number condition not a string.
2. The changes happen immediately however if you check a box to stop a service then immediately uncheck it the registry key is changed but the service is not started. What I want to do to resolve this is put an apply button in that would allow multiple variations of checkboxes to be selected, it would show the current state of them and then once changes are made the apply button can be hit it will apply the changes only then and not before then. I also need to have a way where if something is changed and applied the program verifies the service fully started or stopped.
3. I also want to setup several other buttons that will run only predetermined checkboxes
4. I want to be able to also save the checkbox configuration as like a setting that can be loaded in a button called custom.

After that my program can't run properly and every time I got Time Out Expire message.

Because it is assumed that the client does not have .NET Framework installed nor he has SQL Server on his system and the worst condition would be he does not have even internet connection from where these two setups can be downloaded if we give the condition for downloading these programs from the net if the client does not have these programs installed on his machine.

May 27, 2008i am trying to develop a multi user application. this is the first time i am doing it. my database is sql server 2005. and using vb.net as the programming language.i have few questions,
1. my database is in one computer. this computer is not actually a database server. it is just a computer. and the database is created in local drive (e:) of the computer. when i develop the application. so, if i am writing an application for the computer where the database is created. i can give the location of the database as my connection string (is there any better way to do this. because there might be problems, if the database location is changed). how can i connect to the database from the other computers in the same network?
2. this is my second question. i have a table which stores customer details (customer id is primary key and its auto number). one customer can have many hobbies. so i took it as a separate table (customer ID as the foreign key of that table) . when i enter data, i use single form to enter the customer details and their hobbies. so when i insert the record into two tables, will the second table take the new customer ID automatically into dat tables customer ID which is a foreign key.

i have one table with name [fyr] and it contains two columns 'fyid' (integer) and 'fyear' (nvarchar(50)).following queries are showing exception as "No data exists for row/column"

After the code saves the bitmap, I use a SQLDataAdapter to insert the path to the bitmap into a text field. All the code works on my computer, but on customer computers it does not. I do not get an error msg, but the string value of the path is not inserted. All security works because they can write any other records to the same database. [Code]

Jul 5, 2009I am using a database file Database1.mdf which have a tabel called student. This Database1.mdf is simply added by using the option Add New Item in Solution Explorer. The problem is that I am to able to update the database through form and code. The code is as:

The ds is updated at run time, but as form is closed and run again the actual database table student is not updated.I have no idea what is going on. The same code work right with Access database and SQL database but in this case it is not working. I've tried on google but not getting satisfactory answer. I've also seen a post on this site but that is about ConnectionString, not about the database update.

Oct 21, 2009im trying to do is ping a server and see if there is a response. If there is a response then i would like to set an integer to 1 if there is not a response set the integer to 0. I would also then like to gather any servers that had a response into a list box. I know how to build a list box just having trouble getting the code to set a variable if or if there isnt a response.
