I need to get the ID of a dropdownlist (ASP.Net Control) So that I can tell if an item has been selected.
Right now I am trying to just write the count of the dropdownlist to an alert box as follows:
OnClientClick="alert(document.getElementID('<%=ListBox1.ClientID %>').options.length)
The error I get is 'document required.'
I have a dropdownlist that is populated by a webservice using the ajax cascading dropdown. I have not been able to set the selected value using javascript. It appears that the values do not exist when the javascript runs. I placed the javascript at the bottom of the aspx page. Here is all of the code and the javascript I have tried.

i have a dropdownlist in aspx (vb.net) that i have 2 dropdownlists. i want to show the second dropdownlist based on the value of first one. they are data wise interconnected, so if after selecting a certain record in first, if the second one has more than one record, the dropdownlist should be visible, else it should remain hidden. am sure this can be done with javascript, but i just dont know how.

I'm brand-new to Asp.NET programming. This example pertains to a problem I am having at work. I've done many years of application based programming, and even some php. But learning Asp.NET is giving me a hard time (something I wasn't expecting).I have three combo boxes. But I want to filter out what gets put into them based on what is selected and what is available (an extra table).

I've got a bunch if labels that are changed as a user inputs data into a form of mine. The Labels are changes with js on the client side. I then after all the submission are in put use a vb script to pull the string values from these labels. The problem is the vb net part is not reading the new values of these labels. Anyway I can get it to read the new values? I have over 40 labels.

I also have a list of object on my page and a dropdownlist giving the user the possibility to sort those objects on the page. My code checks the current value of the dropdownlist on Databind of the list and applies the chosen sort method to the list. The first button is triggered when the user has selected another sort method from the list.
The second button is triggered when the user adds a new item to the list. Sortmethod "sort2" should be set automatically in the dropdownlist if this happens. So when the second button has been clicked, I need to set the selected item of the dropdownlist dynamically so I can check the value of the selected value later in the DataBind method of the dropdownlist and know what sort method should be applied.
I don't succeed in changing the selected value dynamically. I'm using to controls: First is the objects.vb and the second is the ObjectContainer.vb. Objects.vb contains the two buttons, the dropdownlist and an instance of the objectcontainer. The objectcontainer contains the list with objects that needs to be sorted based on the value selected in the objects control.

The problem im having is that I have a table that when a user click on a button it adds a row to the table via javascript, which works fine. The problem is that if a user need to update other data the user click another button which refreshes the page and all rows the user created in the table are deleted. My question is what can I do to make the rows not to be deleted once the page is refreshed? I know some might think, just not refresh the page, but there is to much data that has to be displayed and a new query has to be generated to grab the data.

i developed an application which takes input from drop down list and then creates files when we click on that button for specified value in dropdownlist.And if we click on send button it sends to remote database.All the application is working fine. View 3 RepliesI have a set of accordian divs (powered by the prototype library) in an asp.net page. I would like to save the state of the accordian, so when a postback event occurs, the same div is open rather than reloading the page entirely and opening the default div.
My plan was to set a page control value with the ID of the open div using the div's toggler click event function, and then fire a click event after postback calling that same div (using the value of the control holding the div ID) as the target. I'm not sure how to fire a javascript click event from vb.net however, and this sure seems like a lame workaround.

I'm trying to develop a new feature for our vb.net order entry system. At the moment I provide an assisted paypal login which loops through transactions and copies the transactions. My program then looks at this data and copies it into text boxes. The operator then approves and saves the record.

What is the best way to format this data so I can easily extract the data from the server side so I can easily email someone for example to let them know which textboxes have changed, what the old values were, and what the new values are
At the serverside level, I am using .NET-3.5 (VB). I know how to send the data bacl. and how to email the data, I just wanted to know how to best format the data at clientside before sending it back.
