Asp.net - Opening File Via Hyperlink Causes VS To Stop Debugging?

This is a rather odd problem i am running into I currently have a web page that i am adding hyperlinks to that when clicked will open a file (usually Word file though there are some Excel files). Here's the problem. When debugging all of the files do open properly, however, files labeled .doc, .docx, or .xls all end up stopping debug mode when they open. I have .docm files that open properly and do not stop debugging. There isn't an error thrown anywhere just a forced stop of debug mode it seems.
Has anyone ran into a problem similar to this? I have only tested locally but i am unsure if it will cause problems when putting it on the test server. I'm still not quite done with the rest of the page so i was hoping to stop this behavior before completeing the project.

When I end my app by pressing the stop button in visual studio, is there a way for that event to trigger some exit code? I'd rather do that than include a visually distracting quit button.
Better still would be to program some kind of key sequence, eg control + q to trigger some quit code so my app can exit cleanly. Is this possible? I wouldn't know how to program a key shortcut but it might be handy.

Since last 2 days I have been getting a strange problem with my Vb programming (VS2005). Whenever I open any Vb or C# code and press F5 (in order to debug), several windows open at a time like Memory1, Memory2, Memory3, Threads, Processes, Registers, Data sources. And simultaneously the SOLUTION EXPLORER that is present at top-leftmost corner generally goes missing. When I restore that and put my cursor over SOLUTION EXPLORER, the program hangs and a message comes as : "Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close".I have attached the screen shots of the problems to this Thread.I tried various ways like restoring my computer to an early date, repairing Windows XP and then uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio. But none seem to work.

I am having a serious issue with Visual Studio 2005. Whenever I open any Vb or C# app and press F5(to debug), multiple windows open simultaneously like Memory1, Memory2, Threads, Processes, etc... Also, SOLUTION EXPLORER goes missing from top-leftmost area(where it is present usually). When I put the cursor over SOLUTION EXPLORER (after restoring it), the program hangs and the following message is displayed: "Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close".
There is no option to attach something, otherwise I would have attached the screenshots of the problems.

I wrote the following code to build a basic game that makes two cars race (randomgenerator) and let the user pick their bets on the end results. I've gone terribly wrong somewhere in that my cars only race halfway then get stuck behind the start line and the programme keeps repeating the beeping and the messsagebox.show and adding results to the 'incorrect' box.
The only way to terminate the application is to hit 'stop debugging'.

When I go to Debug my program (F5), the program will load, until I click on the form with the main part of code in it, and then the program freezes, although it doesn't lock up because as soon as I press stop debugging/ task manager end process, it closes fine.

How can you stop IE from opening up in a WebBrowser control on a new window (target=_blank")? I've gotten the WebBrowser_NewWindow thig and tried e.Cancel and CancelEventArgs and none of these work. What do I do?

I am working on a tabbed web browser and it is going great! Only one problem! When someone presses on a link that has a target of _blank or a new window, it opens in IE!
I have tried things like:

but that only cancels IE from opening. What I want is it to open in a new tab. I have set it so that NewTab() opens the new tab to the users homepage.
Basically, I need to find out how to get the URL of what the browser is trying to open.

I decided it was about time I learned about accessing Microsoft Office products via VB.NET. I started with Excel and it all worked fine, I could create a new Excel Application, open a workbook from file and read from the sheet then close it all down again no worries. However, when I turned to Word...things got strange. Using the code provided below, every time I run it an instance of Microsoft Word opens itself on the desktop (with no loaded content). I didn't have this problem when using Excel with similar code, so I have to ask..what gives? Is there a way I can stop MS word opening at all? At the moment it just flickers for a second (it opens when I open the document, then when I call the Quit method it shuts down a split second later)[code]...

I am trying to open a MDI child form in some presenter class. In the form load handler I perform a number of initializations. If any of them fails I want to cancel opening the form. The current code does not prevent the form from opening.

I'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. MVC3 VB.NET Razor view Application... I have a view that uses a for each loop to display all the available courses. Next to each of these I would like to place a Html link to download that courses class handout file. Problem is I have not found anything on any forums about assigning the value to the hyperlink dynamically since it will vary with every iteration of the for each loop. I have a WPF application running in debug mode, and I would like to change the XAML while the application is still running. I'm not asking for Edit-and-Continue. I don't mind that I will have to restart the application for the changes to become effective. I just want to be able to make changes to the XAML file while the application is still running, rather than having to (1) remember what I want to change in the UI, (2) close the application, (3) recall what I want to change and make the change.

I am unable to debug any projects as of a Windows Update 2 days ago. It not only caused problems with VS 2008 but also SQL Server 2008. I did a system restore and my SQL Server is back to normal, but VS 2008 will not debug any projects. I get a vshost.exe has stopped working and then a file exception error. I have a program that can save user's input into a text file and load it back, but whenever I try to open the file and exit without selecting the file I get an error.(if i select the file and open it i don't get any errors).

I need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

Okay that keeps the track of my log file inside my richtextbox , but there is a big problem there. My richtextbox slows down hard if the log file gets too big.. Sometimes it kicks me out of the program and in taskbar it says Program Not Responding..
I wanted to know if there is a method to read a bigger Log file with out having such issues. (It mostly happens when log file goes over 13000 characters)

I am using VB.net 2005 and I have a timer running on form1 that communicates modbus with a relay io board. There should be constant uninterrupted communication between the two devices and that is working until I open the data logging form2 and import data from a large sequential text file. While I am parsing data, the timer from form1 stops communicating with the modbus device. Once the data is done, the timer of form1 resumes communication with the modbus device. Is there some other method I could use to make sure the modbus communication is never interrupted.? Is there a command I can periodically run from form2 while the data is being parsed that will keep the timer on form1running?
