I have an aspx page with three web controls: one to control the List Users page, one to control the Edit Users page, and one to control the Add User page. I have discovered a method for accessing these elements, but it seems to be limited. Here is what I have done:
Protected Sub editUser(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewEditEventArgs)
'set selected user from gridview.
[Code].....
This works in most cases. However, I am unable to access the "enabled" attribute of these web controls. Why is this, and how might I access that attribute?
I have 2 pages. parent.aspx and child.aspx. In parent.aspx, i use colorbox and send some value for the child.aspx to popup.
[code]...
child.aspx will popup and shows ASPxGridView base on the value passing from parent.aspx. User will select the data from ASPxGridView. the selected data need to send back to the parent page. I code it in child.aspx.vb page.My problem is how can i get the value from child.aspx.vb and pass it to parent.aspx ?
I'm trying to find a label on an aspx page from a user control (ascx) on said aspx page. Obviously Page.FindControl("lablel1") is not working. Do I need to add in ClientID somewhere?
View 7 RepliesI'm finding a dropdown in an ascxcontrol on my aspx in the following way.
Dim cp As ContentPlaceHolder = DirectCast(Page.Form.FindControl("ContentPlaceHolder1"), ContentPlaceHolder)
Dim ascx As UserControl = DirectCast(cp.FindControl("drpType"), UserControl)
Dim drpType As DropDownList = DirectCast(ascx.FindControl("drpType"), DropDownList)
Is there a faster way without having to acces all the elements on the page?
I have an ASP.NET page (WebForm) on which I set the content of a central DIV by dynamically loading one of five user controls during Page_Load, dependant on the stage of the application.
One of the user controls contains radio buttons and a text box together with a submit button. What I want to do is process that information when the form is posted using the submit button.
I could do this with an AJAX call using jQuery, but I don't really want to do that, so I'm trying to access the form data on postback, but on page load following the postback the data is not present in the Request.Form object.
Looking at what I need to do it seems pretty simple and I'm sure is once you've got your head around it, but I can't find out how to carry this out. Some of the things I have read refer to event bubbling, but that doesn't make too much sense in this scenario.
EDIT: To clarify, I want to post the page back to itself to capture the values from the form elements via the Request object, store them in the database, and then display a confirmation message (or something else) on postback, and not re-display the same control again. So I won't be loading the same user control again.
I would like to know if there is some simple code to release a child control from it's parent control, without having to name the parent control. In pseudocode, I'm looking for something like this:
[Code]...
I have a parent page and child page, both aspx. All is working, but now I would like to close child page, if user leaves child popup page and goes back to parent page and clicks on something else like page index of Gridview. I CANNOT close popup child page if user goes to another app, or some other location, I only want to close if something on parent page is changed.
I have the PageIndexChange Event set up for other purposes, I would just like to add some functionality, perhaps a script manager to close the child popup page if the Gridview index is changed, java or another way which ever works best.I think I might also need to check if the child page is even open.

I am using Visual Basic .Net 2005 professional. From what I understand, I should be disposing of any object that is an unmanaged resource. I understand the best way to tell if a resource is unmanaged is if it has a Dispose method. ie: If I type a dot after my object, intellisense shows .Dispose() as one of the options. If it does, it's an unmanaged resource. Is that correct? In that case, pretty much every control is an unmanaged resource: buttons, forms, panels, etc.In the application I am working on I use an MDIparent container form, which contains MDI children forms, which themselves contain Panels, Menus, Groupboxes, etc, which in turn contain Buttons, Textboxes, Labels, Dropdowns, etc.Do I have to dispose of each button, textbox, label and dropdown within a panel before disposing of the panel?
Do I have to dispose of each panel, menu, and groupbox before disposing of the MDI child form?.Or can I just call the Dispose() method of the MDIchild form and the GarbageCollector will take care of all the controls and resources within the form?Watching the "mem usage" in Windows Task Manager seems to be an unreliable way to detect if I have a memory leak. The numbers just keep climbing and falling (mostly climbing) erratically and without any activity performed on the application. Is there some (relatively) easy way to detect leaks?
I have a UserControl named DataGridViewFilterAndSorter that I built using a SplitContainer. In each Panel of the SplitContainer contains a FlowLayoutPanel and in each FlowLayoutPanel contains a LinkLabel.
I have a procedure that accepts a reference to one of the FlowLayoutPanels in the UserControl. I want to get a reference to the UserControl (DataGridViewFilterAndSorter) using the FlowLayoutPanel reference. Currently, I have to use this[code]...
I need a solution to move a child control with in the bounds of a parent control means I had a panel with 300*300 pixels and I had to move a textbox within the panel how?
View 2 RepliesUsing MDI in .net, how do you reference a control on a parent form from a child? Like, if on the parent I have a textbox called txtBox1, what could I do from the child form to read the contents? I've been googling unsuccessfully all day. The closest I've found is
Parent!ControlName.Property
I don't know what the ! is supposed to mean, but I get an error here: Class 'System.Windows.Forms.Control' cannot be indexed because it has no default property.
I am getting DragLeave Events when dragging from a parent to child control. I would only expect to get this event when moving outside the bounds of a control. How can I implement this?
[Code]...
I have a user control and a panel on it in Dock fill format. Now this is exposed for the user to add on the form. Till this point fine. Now the user sees lot of events for the user control, which I want to actually link up with the panel on the usercontrol, because that is where I want things to happen . Is there any solution to link up the events in few lines of code than calling each event separately? I am also looking to expose only few events than all the base control events.
View 4 RepliesIm working with MDI parent/child objects. when closing the child objects i need the child to check to see if it is the last child object before closing. i couldn't find anything on google, maybe im searching for the wrong thing.
View 2 RepliesI want to program a water supply pipeline network in a treeview control. It has five node (junctions). The parent-child relation is based on a parameter (say pressure). Initially, the node 1 is parent and its child nodes are 2 and 3. The node 3 has child nodes 4 and 5. At run time the pressure changes. Now, node 3 is parent and its child nodes are 1, 4 and 5. The node 1 has child node 2.

View 4 RepliesI have a main form, and some sub forms, and each sub form can have some sub forms. When I have multiple sub forms open, and I try to get data from the parent form, it returns the data from the wrong parent form. For example I have two instances of Mainform.subform running. If I do something like this in a child form of one instance of the subform. It returns data from the other subform.
dim l = Mainform.subform.listofdata
Edit:I am using visual Studio 2008. Winforms, form designed using designer. In my mainform I am doing this
Protected Friend frmMain as Mainform
frmmain = new mainform
In frmMain I am doing this
Protected Friend frmsub as new Subform'
frmsub = new subform

Dim obj_DataTable As New System.Data.DataTable("Category")
Dim obj_DataSet As New DataSet()

Communication between form can be done in many ways using constructor using delegates etc in .net but my question is how can i access a value that is entered into a child form from a parent form or can a two way communication is possible between windows forms.
View 1 RepliesUsing vb.net on an aspx code behind event, is there away to tell from a parent page if the child page popup is open, and then close the child page if it is truly open based on some event on the parent page, like clicking a gridview edit link, again?
View 1 RepliesI'm starting work updating an UI for one of my company's applications and I'm running into a sticky issue. The parent control contains several panels, each of which can be turned on or off depending on user input.
The final panel in the user control contains another user control which gets resizes according to a toggle switch. Essentially, it "opens" up more information.
While the child control (ChildControl) is docked to Fill inside the parent control (ParentControl), when I add height to ChildControl I can't get ParentControl's height to get updated as well. Currently I'm handling the ChildControl.Layout event in ParentControl but I can't seem to reach that code. To resize ChildControl, I'm calling Me.Height += 200 in ChildControl.vb.
Trying to access a property from the parent page on my user control.
Here's the start of my default.asp codebehind:
Partial Class _Default
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Private _selectedID As String = "74251BK3232"
[Code].....
I'm getting the error "selectedID is not a member of System.Web.UI.Page"
I have got a project that i am currently creating that is a basic word processing application. There is the capability to have unlimited MDI child forms open however when you click on change font colour of something similar i only want it to do it in the currently active MDIChild. I have found the Me.activemdichild however i cant then access controls on that form.
View 4 RepliesI'm writing a Repeater Control in an ascx file which renders some info as a row that comes from a complex search. In an aspx file I have the query to retrieve a DataView that gives me the XML string with the info needed to feed the Repeater. The problem is that I don't know how can I pass the XML string (or the DataView or DataSet) from the aspx to the ascx file so as I can render the info.
