Asp.net - Use Computed Columns In SQL Server?

Question is the title itself. I was asked to use computed columns in SQL Server. But when I searched about it in Google, I found it was mainly for displaying the combined values of more than one coloumn. And usage of this may reduce performance if it is treated as a permanent coloumn. So I like to know
Advantages and disadvantages When and where we need to implement this. how can I achieve a solution for the below problem, if possible (with Compute columns. If not possible why?). Or any other way to implement this requirement. My requirement is to use a colomn which will identify which coloumn of that table was updated.So I can compare the values and identify the changes.

I have a Dataset with a Bunch of Columns used in a Report (DevExpress XtraReports) (DataSet being the DataSource). The Dataset has many columns, and i need to read a column (based on the row type), and decide which column value to read for the row, and apply formatting based on the row type.

Is there a suggested way to handle this in the Report or at DataSet Level (excepting the formatting part)?

i got two columns in mysql 2005 Grade and Remarks i need to do is.. when i input integers in grade column 1,1.25,1.50,1.75,2,2.25,2.50,2.75,3 then Remarks will show PASSED and when Grade is 4 up remarks will show FAILED(OPTIONAL)if Grade is null then Remarks will show UNKOWN this is my code but it doesnt works on sql computed column formula IIF(Grade >=4, 'Failed', IIF(Grade IN (1,1.25,1.50,1.75,2,2.25,2.50,2.75,3), 'PASSED','UNKNOWN'))

I'm have trouble summing a datagridview computed column. I can sum other columns in the DGV. Is it possible to sum a DGV computed column and have the result shown in a textbox elsewhere on the form? I have BindingSource with an End Date Column and a DaysLate computed by column. The calculation is in code and works fine. I now need a total days Late TextBox under the DGV days late column

I want to add or update columns using alter table if i am adding a new column i want show rror. I am using this vb.net code file to call a procedure to get dates (among other things). When I execute this procedure in SQL 2005 Server Management Studio, I get about 10 columns. However when I execute this code, the dataset seems to only have one index value, maybe I am misunderstanding something. When I change this
ds.Tables(0).Rows.Count.ToString
to
ds.Tables(1).Rows.Count.ToString <---changing the index value to 1
(or higher)
I get no information. So my question is;
Does the DataSet contain the other columns, only not indexed like an array? What I want to do is choose which of the columns to filter out and turn the rest into JSON formatted strings.

I am looking to define data types by fields in SQL Server 2005. My source is an Excel spreadsheet and I cannot define by columns because each row requires a set of definitions applied to each field in that row. Ex, row 1 requires field1 to be CHAR while in row 2 field 1 needs to be DATE.

Decimal type columns have Precision and Scale where the length of the integral part of the decimal would be Precision - Scale, if the Precision is 4 and the Scale is 2 then the integral part can only contain 2 digits (4-2). As such I will probably need a control that I could set how much it should accept on its integral part. In that regard I am not sure which control is best for such cases, I could try to make a usercontrol that will handle that but is there any other control out there that I could utilize for this purpose, intrinsic to .Net or a custom control out there? I could also just validate the data keyed-in but the above solution seem to be more user-friendly. Curiously, when databinding such Decimal type columns, how is it handled when the specified integral part exceeds the allowable size (Precision minus Scale)?

I'm trying to add a computed column to a datatable that references another column in the datatable. Sometimes the computed column has a mathematical operation applied to it, but in this case I'm just referencing the original column. The code looks like the following:
ReportData.Columns.Add("1_1_US", _
GetType(Single), _
"1_1")
The code isn't actually hard coded as shown above - there are functions that return the values for the first and third parameters - but I checked those and they are returning the expected values and not generating any errors themselves.
The error is thrown when the .Add method is called, and the error states "Syntax error: Missing operand after '_1' operator." It seems to me that it doesn't like the column name, which I suppose I could change and just workaround it at the presentation level. Still, I'm curious. Is this a bug in the .net framework or something? It doesn't mind "1_1" as a column name in the datatable, so why is it having a problem with it in the expression statement?

My goal is to connect to my database either manually or using an sqladapater, and get information from two of my databases on sql server 2005. Then I want to take this information and on run-time begin to add/subtract/divide/multiply certain columns and place the information into other columns. I have a datatable property called prpParametersTable in a class called clsBatch. I have a procedure that sets a datatable variable called dtP equal to prpParametersTable at the beginning of the procedure. I then add three new columns to dtP.Here is my problem. When I add the three new columns to dtP my original table prpParametersTable also gets those columns added to it, why? I only want to add the three columns to dtP and not prpParametersTable. How can I do that?

I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I have an application I have developed which works great on individual PC's. However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing.If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer.What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?
