Asp.net - Write Use Case(s) & Test Driven Development For Binding A Gridview?
Mar 9, 2011
I'm still trying to understand and use Use Cases and Test Driven Development, but having a hard time crossing the line. I'm hoping someone can provide a good example of how setting a datasource and/or databinding a gridview could be accomplished using Test Driven Development. Here is my pseudo approach at it.
Currently I have a lot of working code in VB6 which the company wants me to migrate to VB.NET. Well, that would normally be straightforward ... yes? Unfortunately, not so in our case.... recently, our company decided that I need to modify it to implement the MVC (Model View Controller) paradigm to make it truly OOP and adaptable to TDD (Test Driven Development).
Currently, my move was to start with a simple one, opening a form and then grabbing a piece of text from a textfile and putting it as the caption of the form... now, that is easy.
The problem lies in trying to implement observer patterns ... in the observer pattern I cannot simply call the usual me.caption = mytextstream.ReadLine from the form_load event instead, I need to use objects that would use an interface to register themselves as observers as the form loads but not necessary having to be residing in the form_load event... in fact ... if there is somehow a way for me to make such a thing happen before the code goes through the form_load event then that would more completely separate the View layer from the controller layer which gets implemented through the use of observers and observer related patterns.
I'm new to programming and am trying to learn how to developed data driven application and was wondering which method is recommended? I know there are some debates out there but most of the books I have recommend using object binding, but it doesn't offer any concrete information on how to implement it. I went to MSDN and most, if not all, the documentations are on dataset. So I guess my questions is, object vs dataset, which do you use?
Public Class Form1 Class Member Public Name As String
[code]....
This is what i have so far and its giving me headaches to fix it someone please help with this code assuming that the names and phone numbers of all members are stored in alphabetical order by last name , then by first name in text file residents.txt
I have a .Net 2 solution with some asp classic pages.I get a specified cast is not valid error when I access the page on my local. Below is the vb function where I get the Error:
Public Function Retrieve(ByVal vntSeqId As String, ByRef vntPart As String, ByRef vntPartKey As String, ByRef vntEntDate As String _ , ByRef vntStatus As String, ByRef vntOrigGblId As String, ByRef vntOrigNetId As String,
I'm using VS 2010 Professional built-in test cases. I've got a class that has a read-only property that looks something like this:
Private _server As IServer = Nothing Public ReadOnly Property Server() Get[code]......
In my test cases I want to make a fake server implementation so I can test some of the class methods without actually hitting the server. I've looked around and have seen the InternalsVisibleTo attribute, but that seems to only allow access to Friend-level members. Is there any simple way to get access to these members, aside from declaring them Public/Friend?
I have an application that contains both test code and production code. The test code points to the test files on the local machine while production is located on the server. I comment out the production code when testing. To save some time I figured I would create a Global Variable integer called pTest and encase the test and production code in a Case statement so that if I set pTest=1 then the test code will run and if pTest=0 then production code will run.
Probably a dumb question, but can you write a unit test project in one language to test against another project in a different language?I'd like to translate one of our VB assemblies into C#, but want to build unit tests to verify the results. I've tried to set a unit test project up to do this, but I can't seem to access the VB code within a unit test... I can't figure out if I'm just missing/doing something stupid, or it really isn't allowed.
I made a game and I would like to store the high score and other values in the windows registry. It's made in VB.NET. Could someone give me a sample code example of simple reading and writing to the registry.
how one might go about binding to a gridview in ASP.Net 4 in a scenario where the first row of my gridview should be the headers, the second should be a combobox for each column and the third is the beginning of my actual datasource.
If you can imagine what I am trying to achieve is an ability to create a binding between each column in the datagrid and another datasource. This binding is created by the user selecting a value in the comboboxes. However no matter what I try I cant seem to achieve this.
I've searched everywhere for some example code for this, but I can't figure out how to bind data returned from a function that looks like this to a gridview or dataset.
Public Function GetCompanyList() As IEnumerable(Of BusinessUser) Return (From companyList In CorporateLists Select companyList.User).Distinct()
I am trying to bind XML data into a gridview, after clicking the 'ButtonSaveToDataBase' button, the method will begin to read data from my gridview and load it into an array of my serializable class type and after that serialize it and finally store it into a XML type field in my SQL. The problem is When I call BindData() at the end of the serialization, it reads the XML from my database and successfully binded it but my gridview displays an empty row below my datas like this:

Im trying to figure how to use the IF, ELSE statements OR the Select Case statement to write this program.I'm using Visual Studio 2010. The program is suppose to allow the user to input their weight in a text box and from group box 1 the select whether theyre male or female using the radios and they select inactive or active from group box two and the calculate but will determine how many calories they should intake based on the criteria below.
I am working on an assignment for my Programming Logic and Design class. I also noticed a couple other similar posts but after going through them I still have an issue. I was suppose to write a program that will allow input of three test scores, average them then display a letter grade in a box. At this point the only thing that is being displayed is "F". [code]
Granted this example is pretty weak, but how could I write a test method that to prove that CallThis() gets called everytime that the input parameter s = "S"?
I have to write a program for a user to take a 20 question test (A, B, C, D). The users answers will be stored in an array and compared with a 2nd array that has the correct answers. Its then supposed to go to a 2nd form when you click show score, grade it, and display whether each answer was right or wrong. I'm missing something easy probably.
I have a form called studentForm which has a studentCombobox, studentTextbox and a studentDatagridView In the constructor of the studentForm I need to bind studentCombobox to the StudentbindingSource of the main form and to bind studentDataGridView to appropriate binding source in the mainForm So that this datagrid view displays all the bookings for the studentID currently selected in studentComboBox
I've been developing a arcade game, and as every good arcade game, it has an incorporated scoreboard so that players can see who scored better. My problem is that everytime it enters a new scoreline, it deletes all the previous lines in the text file. The code I've been using is the following:
If player1 > 25 Then objReader.Close() MsgBox("O " + jogador1 + " ganhou.")[code]............
Im using visual studio 2005 and access 2007 as database. I have already connect the database which have two table with two gridview in a web form (asp.net). Now i want to compared the data in the two gridview, and those who are matching should be displayed in a pop up Text box. All this should be done by clicking on a single button.
The following is the codes which i have tried and it does not work. I dont know where the problem. The following codes are for those who does not matched, which will be display. please answer should be in vb.net not C#
I'm getting the following errorError: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.I want to put the grid in excel onclick
Sub bttntxtfile_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) GridViewExportUtil.Export("Customers.xls", GridView1) End Sub
I have a gridview with two cells cell(0) is a IP-number and cell(1) is a resultTxt. I have X number of rows. I want a solution that check each row and do a ping to the ip and write result to result. I want to do the ping in a new thread and i want to be able to do more then one at the time. So I want a loop that keeps checking the ones that are not online until they goes online. It's the thread-part I have questions about, looping gridview and doing a ping I can manage, but it I don't do it in a thread the interface freezes.
In my form I have four text boxes (2 in each row); Textbox_FN1, Textbox_LN1 in row 1 and Textbox_FN2,Textbox_LN2 in row 2. When a button is clicked; I want to pass the row number to the following procedure which needs to read values from two text boxes and write to DatagridView. The code below writes the literal "Textbox_FN1.txt" but I need actual value from the textbox control.
i have a program using a select case to convert letters to special charaters. My question is how can I get the code to read upper and lower case letters without having to put the upper case letters in my select case statement. Example: Part of my code is
The drive is connected via USB and the problem I'm having is that, periodically, while my code is executing, the usb drive seems to disconnect and reconnect. (Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.
