I'm trying to attach to a windows service I am running to debug it however the "Available Processes" list under "Attach to Process" it shows as disabled and won't allow me to attach.
View 1 RepliesI have a program that instantiates Excel, programatically updates it, and then closes it. In some cases, when I look in the task manager/processes, I can still see 1 or more copies of Excel running.
1) Is there a way I can, after creating an object reference to Excel, identify the PID or some other unique identification?
2) Using that, is there a way, after I think I have told Excel to go away, to see if the PID (or whatever) is still active?
3) Given that I have a PID, can I get a new object reference and try to tell it to go away nicely
4) If it still won't go away, can I force an end process of the task?
5) Is there a library or routine available that will return the active processes so I can search to see if there are any copies of Excel still running?
6) using the approach in 5, can I also find out if the item associated with the PID is running just as a process and not as an application?
Ive got 2 List boxes 1 Shows Processes other one is for Storage. Anyway that's not important. Im trying to Kill all the Processes wat are stored in Listbox 2. I had to add .exe at List for Listbox 2 But still not working ? The problem is its not removing the File names that are stored

Is there a way/API to run processes under the service TrustedInstaller in .NET? I don't want to use a command-line tool like devxexec.
View 2 RepliesI have a service that needs to run several independent processes, my problem is that it only creates up to 23, from the 24th and so on the processes are not started and a DW20.EXE window error is displayed, it only says that the there has been an unhandled exception and that the proceess is going to be closed. Inside the process.start block there is no error so I guess it could be some limitation somewhere.

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

I have created a program that when a user registers, it sends an email to that user, and three of my email addresses. The problem is that while it is sending, the window is un-usable and "does not respond" and the icon changes to the white box thing when you click on it. is there a way that i can run this process behind the program, so the window is still usable, but it still sends the emails?
View 1 RepliesI am making a configuration screen so that an administrator can easily determine what controls on a form are enabled according to a combo selection.
I have created a table (SQL2008 DB) to store the settings and need ideas how I can best implement.
The session form will start up normal with only a few controls enabled to start, but then when the user selects a "session type" from a drop down combo then the form will be configured for that type. Because there may be several different combinations, and I do want to offer the user the ability to add and configure more types as needed I feel like this may be the best method instead of hard coding.

Now what I thought I would do on the config form is have a series of combo boxes and the label represent each control with a value of True or False, then when saved it builds a string like example 1,1,0,1,0,1,1,1 or True, True, False etc.
The string would represent
ctrl1=on, ctrl2=on,ctrl3=off,ctrl4=on,ctrl5=off,ctrl6=on,ctrl7=on,ctrl8=on and so on.
We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

Is it possible to expose an event in an Microsoft Office product to a Windows service? That is, are the Office product events shared with other processes like Windows services? I know I can handle these events in VBA code in Word/Excel. However if the code is disabled the handling does not occur. I want to be able to have a service run in the background to log these events as they occr.
View 4 RepliesI may be the only person still automating excel this way and I am looking at doing it in ways that better handle COM objects and such, but for now I just importMicrosoft.Office.Interop.Excel and go for it. Something that gave me a lot of grief at first was hanging excel.exe processes, but there are tons of resources online for fixing that. At this point I am pretty confident in my abilities to handle it.One thing I did notice and was wondering about is how does closing a windows forms application interact with excel.exe running in the background and likely more specifically the garbage collector. I have written quite a few excel automation projects and noticed that after I run my program .exe and it has completed there is an excel.exe process that hangs on until I close the pop up window from the windows forms application. Why is that happening?

This works fine however, I either need the messagebox or a form to come to the front of all open windows on the system to inform the user that the selected customer needs to be reviewed.
How can I ensure that a form (or messages box) that opens in my program comes to the front of any and all application windows that are open?
I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Is there any way to turn the damned error provider off when i try to close the form using the windows close button(X). It fires the validation and the user has to fill all the fields before he can close the form..this will be a usability issue because many tend to close the form using the (X) button. i have placed a button for cancel with causes validation to false and it also fires a validation.

I have a .net Windows Service developed in VB.net. I have a settings file in the root directory called Connections.XML and I am setting the basedirectory [code]...
When I schedule the service this is working absolutely fine in my Windows XP machine. But when I installed the same service in our development server (Windows 2003 64 bit Server) for some reason it is not able to locate this file.
