Attributes - Use XmlElementAttribute To Order The Fields For XML Serialization

We need to specify a certain sort order for the fields of a class which is serialized to XML. sort order when dealing with XML elements but in our case there's a reason to do so.
So ... this answer for C# advises using XmlElementAttribute and I've translated the C# to VB as:
<System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute(Order = 1)> _
Public Property Foo() As String
etcs
But it complains that Name 'Order 'is not declared. Have I mistranslated from C# or is there some other issue here?

DataContract XML serialization and XML attributes which is most interesting I have attempted to directly convert it to VB.NET, but it does not seem to give me the right results. All I get is the root element with no attributes:

It seems fields are initialized in the same order as they appear in the source code, which (a) leads to an unexpected result, and (b) seems a little puzzling, given that one is normally not permitted to read from uninitialized variables in .NET, yet that seems to be working fine above.I would've expected VB.NET to be smart enough to initialize referenced fields first, and only then those that reference it; i.e. I'd have liked to see this output instead:
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Dependent created. Dependent upon Independent.
how to get VB.NET to behave like that instead, without simply having to swap the declaration order of dependent and independent inside class Bar?

I have a class where it's problematic to relay on the properties being serialized in alphabetical order at design time.In other words, property Z must be serialized before property A.The problem arises because property property Z clears property A whenever it changes - which happens in InitializeComponent.I work around this problem by setting a FirstTime flag, but that seems messy.

add a custom field and/or attributes in active directory (whichever their called) for a user. I have two experimental web services. One is an asmx contained within a .net web application. The other is a WCF service library being invoked from the web application.The asmx basically does everything I need, but I think WCF would be better, except that it doesn't do anything as I would expect after fiddling with the asmx service.For example, the same method behaves differently in each:

I'm currently refactoring an old Visual Basic DLL (VB.Net), which stores all of its data in one module called Globaldefinitions as public fields. There are about 200 fields, referenced thousands of times all around the code:
Public Module Globaldefinitons
Public a As Short
...
Public zz10 As Double

I need to change the module into a class with non-shared fields. This means, each and every of these thousands of references needs to reference the instance of that class:
globalDefinitionsInstance.a = 5
How do I go about this efficiently?
Regular expressions operating on the source fall flat. Refactoring tools like Re-Sharper or CodeRush don't seem to offer this functionality. Visual Studio 2010 cannot do it automatically either.

I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. My intent is to have the code - on a button.click event - check the Username and Password fields and return an error depending on which is wrong. I have a databound Datagridview. The DGV is bound to a datatable of a strongly typed DataSet created using the wizard. Is there any way to re order the columns before displaying them eg: the Columns are displayed in the DGV in this other Col4, Col6, Col3, Col1,Col5, Col2
But I want to it to show as Col1, Col2, col3, Col4, Col5, Col6?
I realise that the display order followed the Column order in the database table and by extension, the datatable. I have re-arranged the columns in the Database but the Datatable still retains the old order.

I've been serialising and deserialising .net objects using the XmlSerializer class without problem, however we now need somebody else to look at that data to perform some analysis on it.In order to help with that we've produced an XSD based on our class like so:
xsd.exe /t:DataClass Assembly.exe
The start of the XSD looks like this:

Bizarly, the XML produced does not adhere to the XSD generated from the same class.My question then is, is there a way of telling the XmlSerializer to serialize the object based on a given XSD? As an aside, I've looked at other ways of fixing this: I've tried re-generating the classes from the generated XSD - this seemed to have the same problem.

I have a base class ("MyBaseClass") in a project called "BaseFramework" which is included in several solutions within the company. There are several derived class's in various projects throughout the company that inherit from "MyBaseClass". If I then create a List and add derived class's to it, it will not serialize. I realise that if I were attempting to serialize this list, and the base class and derived class were in the same project, I could simply apply the "XmlInclude" attribute to the base class and include all of the derived class's. This is however not possible across projects, because that would require a circular dependency.

I am attempting to solve the well known problem of automatically generated serialization assemblies in VS 2010, both VB.NET and C#. The "Generate Serialization Assemblies" option in project settings does nothing for non-web projects (see [URL]). Thus the calls to serializers generate file i/o exceptions that are very unfortunate, and for which there is no cure. The method suggested above does not appear to work with VS2010 and SGEN still runs with /proxytypes enabled.

I am creating a new windows program and I have used XML serialization to save the contents of my text boxes but when I try to open that file in the new application, no data is transferred.
