Automating Hardware Upgrade For A Significant Number Of Users

I am in the process of upgrading hardware for a significant number of users. When we upgrade them to new hardware we often upgrade a lot of their software. Once the base load of the OS is on their new machine I run a vb script that copies their profile from the old machine to the new machine and sets up a lot of the software on the new machine that we use. I am trying to migrate this application to VB.Net for a variety of reasons (speed and UI being among the biggest). There are two separate issues that I am having.
One issue is that I can't seem to find a good .Net way to query what printers and ports they have on the old machine and set those up on the new machine. I am still using script (called from VB.Net) to do this. Another issue is with CopyProfile. We have several users that have directory structures that use names longer than this utility seems to allow. Is there a better way to copy a profile from one PC to another than this utility? Is there any documentation on exactly what this utility does so I could determine if I wanted to code it myself?

Is there a number format in .Net that will display a given number of significant digits, but also NEVER displays in scientific notation (for example,declaring 3 sigfigs you would have 1234.567 = 1230 and .000123456 = .000123)

I am trying to make a basic ATM system, iv got all the interface done and I have made the link to my SQL database etc. the part i'm stuck on is how I can run a check to see if a bank card number matches up to the users PIN number. To simulate the user putting a card into the machine I've used a combo box, and that lists all the cards, that haven't been flagged as confiscated (there's a column in my ATMCards table that I can set to true or false) then after the user has selected a relevant card there's another text box where they can enter in their PIN number.
Now what I want to do is, if they chose the card number 1234567890123456 in the combo box and they enter in the PIN 1234 into the text box, then, after clicking the check PIN Button if the pin is correct they need to be taken to another from where they can check their balance etc., and if its wrong they got three attempts after which point i want to flag that card as confiscated.

I have a vb application sitting on sql 2005 database i want a scenario where the application can check the number of records inserted into a particular table(Users) , if the number of records inserted into that table after 1wk since the last insert is less than 100 records it should pop up a warning alert with the total number of records

I'm Trying to make a piece of software where You enter a number and the computer measures the length of the number, and then generates random numbers to match the human number. It will then count the number of guesses and the time taken. However it always comes up that there was a infinite loop "An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll". I have searched up how to do this and I can't seem to find out how. I think I just put my wording wrong when looking it up. My Software Has Has 2 TextBox, 2 Buttons, 6 labels (4 just to make it user friendly) and a timer.

I have two masked text boxes that holds Phone Numbers and Zip Codes.Since they are Masked text boxes and are set not to allow characters or letters, the user must enter numbers.However, how do I add a message telling the user to enter number and zip code since there is no prompt?I don't need to validate the numbers just to add an error message if it's left empty.

I've created code that generates a random number and validates the users guess to see if its correct. I think the code is good but i'm not 100% sure. I need to add additional pieces to the code and i'm not sure where or how to do it. allow the user 10 guesses. after 10 guesses disable the ability to make more guesses if the 10th guess is wrong count each guess entered & display the count as it increments display each guess along with its returned messaeg into a list box. when the user gets correct answer provide a box to allow them to play again. Re-initialize variables back to their starting status.
a. If the user correctly guesses the number in less than 5 guesses display "Either you know the secret or you got lucky!" in a message box. b. If the user correctly guesses the number in 5, 6, or 7 guesses, display "Ah Ha! Do you know the secret?" in a message box. c. If the number of guesses is 8 to 10, then display "Try to do better next time." d. If the number of guesses exceeds 10, then display "You have taken too many guesses."

I have a Visual Basic.Net Windows Forms application to which I am considering adding the WebBrowser control. I'm assuming that the PC's on which this application will ultimately be deployed/installed will have the latest Windows (XP, Vista, or 7) updates, a firewall, and an Internet security suite installed/running.
With this deployment environment in mind, does the WebBrowser control make my application or the deployment PC vulnerable to any significant security risks? Are there any programming issues that should be addressed to eliminate potential security risks when using the WebBrowser control?

I'm working on a project and my boss insists I use a DataGrid for this. The grid holds information for work orders, one of the cols has a check box in it. I need the user to be able to select any number of those checkboxes/rows and then return a value to the table "stamping" that users ID. This is what I have so far to get the grids populated... I'm using 2005 with a 2000 Access Database if that helps. Though this will be changed to SQL Server once we get it working (yay more work)...

I removed the code from the second grid to make it easier to read, obviously once I can get one to work the second shouldn't be as much trouble.
This is the check box: dgvNewBiz.Columns(1).HeaderText = "Select"At this point if someone knows how to get it to recognize the click event of the check box and pass that row info to a variable that would be super as I'm sure I could probably figure it out from there.

I cannot figure out how to get this call to work.I have searched EVERYWHERE.MSDN is no help at all and the only thing I can find is this vb6 code that doesn't work in .net.I tried to convert it over but I've had no luck.Specifically I'm trying to get the path of the "All Users" Desktop and the "All Users" Start Menu.It would rock if anyone could help me out with this one.

Currently, I have a scheduled task that calls a batch file. The batch file then opens Internet Explorer and navigates to the URL and the process is fired. There is another scheduled batch file that closes Internet Explorer.

We have bid on a large installation and if we get it we will need to set up 300-400 router like devices very quickly. To set one up now we connect to the device with a serial cable, run Putty on the windows PC, log in to the device, and run some commands on it to load the latest firmware and change some settings. I'd like to reduce this to connect the router to the pc with the serial cable and press a button on a vb program. The program would launch Putty, login and execute the commands. Sendkeys might work but it would be best if the VB program could read the responses that were coming back to an extent so I wouldn't have to program in really long pauses to insure actions had completed before doing something else.

i am using the following code to send e-mails, I am using this cause various other methods though sucessful, were not compatible. My earlier code was compatible with Outlook 2003 and used to crash at machines with Outlook 2007. i know you can add a reference to Outloo 2007 office files. but the following code is version independent, but i am not able to pre-populate the various outlook fields such as the To: , Cc: ,BCc:, Subject and Body. and i am not able to Launch Outlook for the user to actually see the display.

I have developed a VB.Net application to automate Word and I am noticing some issues when I attempt to close a document and subsequently Word. So I have decided to do the following - - ->
I check to see if Word is running on the local PC. If it is not, then I instaniate Word, execute code, close the document and quit Word. If Word is already running I want to be able to use that instance of Word, execute code, close out the active document and NOT close Word. I have retrieved the Process ID for Word running on the local PC but am not sure how I can use Word's properties and methods on an existing instance.

Since installing Windows 7 on one of my test machines my automated uninstaller can not find the uninstall string. My script works on XP just fine. I noticed that the uninstall information is in a different location for Windows 7. it is in Wow6432NodeMicrosoft... is there a constant I can use that will allow my script find the correct uninstall location on both Windows 7 and Windows XP?
