I have a text file stored as a string variable. The text file is processed so that it only contains lowercase words and spaces. Now, say I have a static dictionary, which is just a list of specific words, and I want to count, from within the text file, the frequency of each word in the dictionary. For example:
Text file:
i love love vb development although i m a total newbie
Dictionary:
love, development, fire, stone
The output I'd like to see is something like the following, listing both the dictionary word and its count. If it makes coding simpler, it can also only list the dictionary word that appeared in the text.
WORD, COUNT
love, 2
development, 1
fire, 0 stone, 0
Using a regex (eg "w+") I can get all the word matches, but I have no clue how to get the counts that are also in the dictionary, so I'm stuck. Efficiency is crucial here since the dictionary is quite large (~100,000 words) and the text files are not small either (~200kb each).
I am attempting to write a very basic console application which simply counts the number of times a word appears in a sentence. This sentence is input by the user, as is the word to look for.(I also need this search to ignore the full stop and case, but I'll try and do that myself)For example:
Sentence: "This is the last time that I'll say this."
Look for word: "this"
Expected output "2" (as "this" appears twice in the sentence)
I have written some basic code below, however, the output is a boolean value rather than a count of all the times the word has been used.I have a very limited knowledge of VB, so the solution is probably going to be long winded and simplisitic. I am a mature student at university, hence the reason I am writing these odd looking applications.
Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim userSentenceInput As String[code]......
I am trying to figure out how to count the words that start with a vowel and also count the words that start with a consonant. I have tried several different ways on trying to do this but no luck. I have worked on this for a couple days already. Very frustrated I need some assistance with this issue
I am in a "survey of programming languages" course and have a professor who doesn't teach. There is no text book for this course.I am working a VB Form project to take a URL, grab the HTML source code, parse out all words, and count the occurrences of each word on the page. I have built the form, and written the code to parse the words and store them in an array. What is the most efficient way to count the occurrences of each individual word in that array (case insensitive), sort the results decreasing from most frequent, and display the results of the ten most used words. I will be displaying the results in two separate listboxes on my form. 1 listbox shows the words, and the other shows the number of occurrences.
Im trying to get an application to count letters and words. I want it to count them at runtime and display it in a label box. My form will run and I can type text in my textbox but my lblOutput doesn't update.[code...]
I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words. For Example:Words: trying, long, array Sentence: "I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words."Resulting string array:Multiple instances of the same word is likely, so having two instances of trying cause a split, or of array, will probably happen.
I have a string array Array1 and a string array A2. I want to combine these in a 3rd array A3 but excluding duplicate values. Can this be done through lambda expressions or only through iterating through the array and checking array.Contains()?
i need to count the no of instances of a word in a string using vb.net i can do the usual way as my problem is a little different for eg i need to count the no of occurrences of -> in tree_ptr->sub.another->valu=3;
Private Sub btncount_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles CountNowToolStripMenuItem.Click Dim J As Integer, last As Integer = txtentry.TextLength - 1
I've managed to become semi-literate in regex's, I'm stuck on this one though. I need to capture up to 5 words before and after a given word (not necessarily in the same sentence). So, for example, if the target word is AARDVARK in the following text:
AND A TRIP TO THE ZOO. THE AARDVARK WAS THE MOST INTERESTING CREATURE HE HAD EVER ...
I would like to capture {A, TRIP, TO, THE, ZOO} & {WAS, THE, MOST, INTERESTING CREATURE}. Obviously, if I could simply capture the whole string "A TRIP ... INTERESTING CREATURE", I can parse out the words.
Is there a simple way to insert a specific word between 2 or more words that of course have spaces?I'm doing if and next and if and next.I have 200 columns of programming for something that it may be simpler to make. So, p.e with the word "and", "Hello world" will be "Hello and world" or p.e. "Hello nice world" would be "Hello and nice and world".Words can also be like "Hello nice world"(doesn't show here, the spaces are "hello nice world" .I don't mind the spaces between to be only one but the words must be separated with the key word and space before and after.
complete coding newbie, but I'm trying to make a program that displays how many people are in a telephone queue by reading from a log file. and havign a timer update the number every 3rd second.
I'm writing a text adventure that takes place in the World of Snorf.Console.WriteLine("You are in the world of Snorf. The sky is pink. A gentle breeze blows across your naked skin.") When I debug this, the line gets cut through the word "your".How can I have the words automatically wrapped between the words?
It has been a while since I have used regular expressions and I'm hoping what I'm trying to do is possible. I have a program that sends automated response regarding a particular file and I'd like to grab the text between two words I know will never change. In this example those words are "regarding" and "sent"
Dim subject As String = "Information regarding John Doe sent." Dim name As String = Regex.IsMatch(subject, "")
So in this case I'd like to be able to get just "John Doe". Every regexp I'm coming up with includes the words "regarding" and "sent". How can I use those words as the boundaries but not include them in the match?
attached is my project on making multiple words from 1 word
This solves the word and has an option to save. Or it solves and saves all words in a list. I tried to do it with jokers using the jokers as every letter but it slows the program down drastically.
I need my VBA Macro to locate text throughout a document and move it. The information that needs moved can easily be detected by the font colors. For example:
"Celica Toyota": Toyota would always be a specific Green font and Celica would always be a specific blue. There can be more than one word in the range that needs swapped (ie: "Monte Carlo Chevrolet").
I have some really long drawn out code, but there's got to be something more efficiant.
But it replaces all abc to google. But I need to change first abc to google and second abc to yahoo and so on.also tried this one
Quote:
Dim m14 As MatchCollection = Regex.Matches(TextBox1.Text, "abc", RegexOptions.Singleline + RegexOptions.IgnoreCase) For Each n1 As Match In m14 Dim value As String = n1.Groups(0).Value 'MsgBox(value)
I have a task to resolve, it is regading extracting characters from a long string to the console, the extracted text shall be reformatted and saved into a CSV file. The string comes out of a database.
It looks something like: UNH+RAM6957+ORDERS:D:96A:UN:EGC103'BGM+38G::ZEW+REQEST6957+9'DTM+Z05:0:805'DTM+137:20100930154
The values are seperated by '.I can query the database and display the string on the console, but now I need to extract the Keyword 'ORDERS' for example, and lets say it's following 5 Characters. So the output should look like: ORDERS:D:96A then I need to extract the keyword 'BGM' and its following five characters so the output should look like: BGM+38G:After extracting all the keywords, the result should be comma seperated and look like:
ORDERS:D:96A,BGM+38G: it should be saved into a CSV file automatically.
I tried already:
'Lookup for containing KeyWords Dim FoundPosition1 = p_EDI.Contains("ORDERS") Console.WriteLine(FoundPosition1)
Which gives the starting position of the Keyword.I tried to trim the whole thing around the keyword "DTM". The EDI variable holds the entire string from the Database:
Dim FoundPosition2 = EDI FoundPosition2 = Trim(Mid(EDI, InStr(EDI, "DTM"))) Console.WriteLine(FoundPosition2)
I'm trying to write a function to find a word in a string in the this format : "ThisissometextthatIneedtofindandthisisthetext. This is another text."It's read as " This is some text that I need to find and this is the text. This is another text." but there is no space between each word. I want to get the word "text" or any word in that string. Can you help me with this function with a code sample ?
And I think that this method can be implemented with a string of Unicode also because in a sentence of Unicode it contains one or few, sometimes zero spaces between each word.
I recently had some problems with the performance of the Word object model. In an add-in that I wrote for Word I need to parse through all the words of a document and replace some of them or ask the user for the ones that have multiple replacements. I know that it is faster to ask Word for all of the document text content at once and then process it and put it back all at once again, but this is not suitable for my add-in because I need to have access to the range objects that represent the words that have multiple replacements so that I can somehow mark them in the document and present the user with a tool tip from which he can select the replacement he wants.
So for the moment the single great speed improvement that came in my head was multithreading since most people already have dual core or better. The problem is that all the things you find on Google say that multithreading in Office is a very bad thing to do.
So is there any one who managed to do this in a manner that worked in most of its usage? By this I mean if it also worked on other PCs then the development one?
I'm an inexperienced programmer,I want to count the number of line's in a string. In "hulp" are several line's, all ending with "vbCrlf".I have tryed If hulp.Substring(i, 1) = vbCrLf Then .... but that doesn't seem to work.
I am trying to count the number of times a specific character is in a string. The problem is when I run the program the letter doesn't advance from "d" in the string "debugging" and doesn't display the number of time the character "g" is found.
Private Sub Button2_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click Dim letterCount As Integer
