Counting Words + Letters At Runtime And Display It In A Label Box
Feb 12, 2009
Im trying to get an application to count letters and words. I want it to count them at runtime and display it in a label box. My form will run and I can type text in my textbox but my lblOutput doesn't update.[code...]
I have 4 set of words store in array and wan randomly selects and scramble its letters in a label. i just know how to do the coding part of randomly display the words in the label but it no scramble i have no idea to do the scramble part, any expert can give the solution or example?
am working on a homework assignment and have got the vb running well. Except for one area where I am trying to determine the number of occurrences of a combination of letters "XY". All other instances of this works fine for individual letters.
For intIndex = 0 To intLength strCurrent = strSearch.Substring(intIndex, 1) If strCurrent = "th" Then
I am trying to figure out how to count the words that start with a vowel and also count the words that start with a consonant. I have tried several different ways on trying to do this but no luck. I have worked on this for a couple days already. Very frustrated I need some assistance with this issue
I am in a "survey of programming languages" course and have a professor who doesn't teach. There is no text book for this course.I am working a VB Form project to take a URL, grab the HTML source code, parse out all words, and count the occurrences of each word on the page. I have built the form, and written the code to parse the words and store them in an array. What is the most efficient way to count the occurrences of each individual word in that array (case insensitive), sort the results decreasing from most frequent, and display the results of the ten most used words. I will be displaying the results in two separate listboxes on my form. 1 listbox shows the words, and the other shows the number of occurrences.
I have a text file stored as a string variable. The text file is processed so that it only contains lowercase words and spaces. Now, say I have a static dictionary, which is just a list of specific words, and I want to count, from within the text file, the frequency of each word in the dictionary. For example:
Text file:
i love love vb development although i m a total newbie
Dictionary:
love, development, fire, stone
The output I'd like to see is something like the following, listing both the dictionary word and its count. If it makes coding simpler, it can also only list the dictionary word that appeared in the text.
WORD, COUNT
love, 2
development, 1
fire, 0 stone, 0
Using a regex (eg "w+") I can get all the word matches, but I have no clue how to get the counts that are also in the dictionary, so I'm stuck. Efficiency is crucial here since the dictionary is quite large (~100,000 words) and the text files are not small either (~200kb each).
I've got 2 RTB one is for input of text and one is output. The output one needs to read the words from the input and display it alphabetically and with their line numbers.I have partly done it and it currently reads it but here is my problem When the words are outputted let say for example there are 2 words the same on the same line e.g the word 'you' appears twice on line one,at the moment its coming up like this
In Visual Basic 2008 Express edition: Create a new string replacing the order of the words, from last one to the first one and show it in a text box..Example: Input: This is an example Output:example an is Thisť..I know theres a function to reverse the letters (StrReverse), but the order of the words?
[Code] This Regex "^[" + w + "]+$" finds all words which consists of letters "rca". This matches for all words, because all words are made up from "rca". Is there something I could add, to return False for "caar", because "rca" has only one "a", but "caar" has two "a"?
I am still a beginner programmer so keep in mind that what I'm trying to do is beyond my knowledge but I have no one to teach me Visual Basic except from what little I can learn off of the internet. Currently, I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition so my problem may be appear different if I show you any of my code.
I've created a program that contains a label and the words in the label form a question. Below that is a textbox with some text that has to be memorize for a play. Just think of the question as the previous speakers part. So far I've set it so that the words in the textbox are randomly removed and are replaced with a blank. I face with the program is that the user can't enter the answer because the blank is in the way.
Instead of putting a blank where the missing word is I would like to have some textboxes put there that way the user can enter the missing word and so that I can later insert some code that will let the user check to see if the answer they entered is correct.now the missing word is still replaced by the blank so I need to get rid of that and insert the textbox wherever the words are missing.
I have Access 2007 db in which users insert some data (name, last name etc.). This db is for some problems in my work and every of this records needs some solution. When we solve this problem we come back to this record and select YES in yes/no field of db.I want to count inserted records and show it on first form of my application like this (label or text field, it is not important) :
* all records : 124 * solved records : 50 * not solved records : 74
i want to use this code to display a date in a datepicker without counting the weekends. That is if i specify maybe 20 days from a date or 20 days from 01/01/2010(1st Janunary,2010) i should get 28/01/2010(28th Januanary,2010) not 21/01/2010(21st January,2010).
I have a little problem with my code.I want to browse a file, display the file, then i want to counting the letters from it.The counting letters i want to display in a textbox(in my code b1),but i don't know how.
Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Bcalculeaza.Click Dim action = OpenFD.ShowDialog
2] One text box to type in the words I need to appear
3] One button to print the words from the text box to the label.
4] One button to exit the program
I know that this sounds extremely easy for you pros out there but if i could find the code for that simple program I might be able to relearn from where I left off..
I have been learning visual basic and this is my code I have Imports System.IO.StreamWriter Imports System.IO.StreamReader Public Class Form1 ' Form Load Dim w As IO.StreamWriter Dim r As IO.StreamReader [Code] .....
My problem is that I want label1 to count one when the information in Textbox5 is matching a line of info in Listbox1 so far I can do this but when the info changes by me pressing Ctrl+C it works it counts 1 but my problem is my clipboard info is updating automatically I can see the change in the textbox but it wont count.
So I'm making a program that has a few selections from a ListBox, and when one is selected, it will clear/load items on a groupbox. However, when I add a label, it will only display the first 2 or 3 words. Here is the code I use to add a simple lable, that doesn't work:
If (ListBox1.Text.Equals("Mode")) Then RichTextBox1.Text = notes GroupBox1.Controls.Clear()
I have a form with a Label. And Label1 Show's the day Date Time. But How do I separate the Day, Date, Time, as you can see in the picture below I have Managed to put a space Between Day and Date but not Between Date and Time I have tried " " without success.
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick Select Case Weekday(Now) Case Is = vbSaturday Label1.Text = "Today is Saturday " + Today + TimeOfDay Case Is = vbSunday
Windows forms .net 4.0 vb application. This is a small trivial thing but I was trying to just change the color of one word in label.text. But its not happening and I have a strong feeling that to make it happen is going to be more extensive than its worth... A snippet of what I am trying to use is below...
Dim _changeLabel1 As String = " Note Fields Marked in " Dim _changeLabel2 As String = " are Required" Dim _attrib As New Label
I'm try to hide the label after few second but it is updating page continuously after 10sec, i just want it once time when i click save button label on display me successfully for 10sec and get disappear
I've got a simple textbox and as the user enters text in the textbox I display a label below with matching words (to what they are typing). When they click the DOWN or UP arrow I highlight one of the words below in the label.
is there any way to take letters out of a textbox then re-display them scrambled, such as the word Tissue then at the push of a button make the word displayed sisute or some other order?
I am using the SHGetFileInfo function to get the name of folders etc. The reason that I use it, is because it also has to get the name when copying a drive, so it returns "Local Disk (C:)" instead of "C:".This worked, up until recently, I cannot remember what I changed! Suddenly, it's always missing the first 4 letters! Like, "Local Disk (C:)" becomes "l Disk (C:)".
I'm on Windows 7, and it works just fine on Windows XP. Here's my
<DllImport("shell32.dll")> Private Function SHGetFileInfo(ByVal pszPath As String, ByVal dwFileAttributes As UInteger, ByRef psfi As SHFILEINFO, ByVal cbSizeFileInfo As UInteger, ByVal uFlags As UInteger) As IntPtr End Function
[code]....
I also made a test project with the EXACT same code, and it did work...
