do i need to use a datarelation for the combobox column?

Binding ListBox To DataTable?
Jan 12, 2010I am trying to bind a simple 2 column data table to a ListBox control with the following code. I am not getting an error but the ListBox is not displaying any items. When debugging, it looks like the DataSource is set to Nothing.

Sep 28, 2011I developed a windows forms app, using VisualBasic in VS 2010. In my form, first I declared a variable as DataTable (Dim VarTable as New DataTable).
Second, changed the DataSource property of my DataGridView (DataGridView1.Datasource=VarTable)
Third, I filled the VarTable in this way: using a resulset from SqlDataReader, i added row by row.
Dim Result As SqlDataReader=CommandSQL.ExecuteReader
Do While Result.Read()
Dim RowToAdd As DataRow
RowToAdd=VarTable.NewRow()
RowToAdd("Code")=Result("Code")
RowToAdd("Name")=Result("Name")

Fourth, after the user changed data in datagridview, I saved the data back to SQL, cleared VarTable (VarTable.Rows.Clear()), and back to top of form to accept a new code. But here, problems begin. When I execute again the whole code described, the datagridview dont show the entire rows, and sometimes crashed with different errors. Solution? Dont fill VarTable row by row. Use VarTable.Load(Result) to populate the VarTable. I don't know why now works, But just I wanted to share this information.
VS 2008 Datatable Vs Object Binding?
Jan 4, 2010I've read (or the only book that covers ado 3.5) is Murach ADO 3.5 and throughout the book, the author recommends using object binding so that's what I've been doing. However, I had a chance to look at all the codes for our applications at work, and only datatables are used.Was curious as to the difference/pros and cons between binding to an object, and binding to a table. I guess my real question is which one should I be using, datatable or object binding? Is there a definite answer or does it depends on the situation and what I want to do?

This is my first application in .Net and I really want to observe the best OOD & OOP principles to create an application that is easy to maintain and extend (add new functionality). My issue is in regard to databinding on the UI. From experience, what do you guys recommend to use for databinding? Should I return datasets/datatables from my Business Layer and bind these to UI controls or should I return Business Objects and bind these to UI controls? And what are the pros and cons of each approach?

The datagridview also contains a counry-column allowing the user to choose the country of the client.Unfortunately, databinding of comboboxcolumn does not seem to work if an own business class is used. Using a simple collection instead works well.Copy the sample code into a new windows project and the programm runs fine. Then comment and uncomment the two lines with "XXX" and the code will fail. Aug 19, 2009I started programming in VBA, then graduated to VB6, and I am now using VB.NET 2008 Express.I have read, in the various posts, that I should keep Option Explicit and Option Strict both on, in order that I use correct VB.NET code and not VB6.I am trying to do that but am totally confused with the results of one of my programmes that was running perfectly with Option Strict off, but now advises:Option Strict On disallows late binding. To me it appears that I am using early binding, but to be honest I am not clear on the binding situation. I would like to have a child form that contains a list of columns associated with the datatable that contains a checkbox that will allow the user to hide and show the columns ( I do not know the best control to use here) (I assume this is the easy part as All i need to do is loop through each of the datatable's columns to get the column name)
now I would like save these visible columns on some event like form_closing so that the next time the user opens the form up it will remember the settings

Apr 16, 2012I came across a problem with using a BindingSource as my DataGridViews.DataSource. Whenever I applied a filter to a column in the BindingSource and the user makes changes that don't match the column filter the DataGridViewRows would automatically disappear. A similar thing would happen when applying a Sort to a column. If the user made any changes the DridGirdViewRows would automatically sort causing rows to be moved around. This was not ideal for my application and there isn't anyway to stop this from happening with the BindingSource.
To correct this issue I have to use subsets of data. I use a DataView to apply the filter and sort to the main DataTable, which creates the subset DataTable.The problem is when I use the DataView.ToTable method I loose the Primary Key and RowError information. So I have to reapply this information everytime the user filters or sorts the DataGridView.Is there a better way to get a subset DataTable?[code]...

Aug 6, 2010I am trying to add NewRow to the database by using datatable in dataset, but before I do that I want to make sure that row is not already there. I create new row for the datatable I am working with, fill it with information. I fill datatable with the row from database that has the same primary key as my NewRow by using tableadapter.fill method, but when I do that my NewRow that was never added to the datatable is filled with information from database(and not information that I assigned to it). I count rows in my datatable before I fill it and it's 0, so why is my NewRow affected by Fill command? (I am using VB.NET 2005 Framework 2.0)
